I like Raichu's design a lot. Bigger, fatter, and stronger Pikachu, but still cute with it's bigger curly ears and longer tail. You can definitely still tell that it came from a Pikachu. Very smart design.

Wait it doesn't? I played emerald when I was younger and I got a Pikachu from the Safari zone it had a light ball and I eventually evolved it into a Raichu. This whole entire time I thought the light ball that I had equiped with it worked this whole time.
If Game Freak wasn't so intent on giving all of the love to their mascot, Light Ball Raichu would be insanely powerful. At least OU with basically 2 base 180 attack stats and great speed. Maybe too frail for Ubers, though. And plus, they let both Cubone and Marowak use Thick Club, giving Marowak basically 180 base attack, so why not let Pichu, Pikachu, and Raichu use Light Ball, instead of just Pikachu
Joël Ogbamichael yeah, that would be OP, but Raichu, like Marowak, has its weaknesses with its awful hp and physical defense, meaning it would lose hard to strong physical priority like Extreme Speed and Sucker Punch. Also, I don't think it would be really fair if Raichu got Light Ball, but why not Pichu, it's awful and would need a buff, but no, Game Freak just wants to make it seem like their mascot is good.

Raichu has always been my favorite pokemon of all time. I think the fact that Gamefreak give so much options to Pikachu has hit Raichu’s popularity quite a lot. But even if Raichu is an awful pokemon competitively I will always use one in my team.

I soon got a Thunder Stone and boom, I got a Raichu. ever since then I still have that Raichu to this day. I try to use other, better electric types like Jolteon and Ampharos, but it just wasn't the same. Nowadays everytime I play X and Y or Sun and Moon, I always have up a Raichu by the end. So yeah. God. The love I have for this Pokémon is unreal. Raichu is my Day 1. I think it'd be safe to assume that Raichu is most definitely my all time favorite.
I used one in X. It was great. Raichu is pretty good in-game. It wasn't bad competitively either, it's just that FSG focuses more on what tier something is in than how well it does on the actual tier it is in (whether that is poor "judgment" on FSG's part is for you to ponder). Raichu was actually a solid pick for an offensive Electric in Gen 6 PU, for example, despite competing with Zebstrika and Electabuzz.
Yeah I talking about how good Pokemon are in the the tier they are in would be cool. Would kinda defeat the purpose of asking if they are good though at least a bit.
Well, the question IS constructed as "HOW good was it actually?" rather than "Was it actually good?", so going by exactly how well a Pokémon performed in its own tier is ACTUALLY (ba-dum tss!) a more accurate approach to the question FSG poses with his competitive history videos.
I think I once used Raichu in FR (ever since I've restarted it to do a Flying Mono so now I instead have Zapdos) and it did rather well. idr if I let it learn Thunder or settled for TBolt alone, because outside rain, Thunder is just not very reliable. Still, the fact you can get a Thunder Wave user very early in the game is very useful for catching the rest of the team.
Aw, Raichu's one of my favorite Pokemon. Sad that even the Pokedex has to rub it in. :( Even before I was really into Pokemon, I remember immediately falling in love with Raichu the moment I first saw it. Always found its appearance more aesthetically pleasing than Pikachu's.

Attack +10, Special Attack +10, Speed +11 That buff alone is enough to allow Raichu to invest more in its bulk EVs. If you were to that version of it on a team, you could run an IV spread of 84/0/0/230/56/140 and have special defense as good as Blastoise. Combo that with a move like charge/calm mind and reflect or light screen and that's MORE Than enough to make it last longer. And thanks to the stat buffs, you can have it perform offensively the same as it would in the base game.

@@anthonypiranio202 IDK in its actual tier placement but it's not used in OU. Jolteon is a good pokemon in its own right but unfortunately it has insane competition. There is just no way it can compete with the likes of tapu Koko, xurkitreee, thunderous,.zoeara, magnezone, and Zapdos. Then you have mega ampherous as a more niche option. There is just no way to justify using Jolteon over all these options.

I don't know how easy this is for you to do, but for Generations I through IV, would you consider mixing footage from both the console and the handheld games? I really enjoy both styles and it may add some extra visual flair to your videos. Anyone agree? By the way, I really love your content. You do a great job at explaining how a Pokemon fares across an entire metagame rather than just the tier its in, and I really appreciate that.
It would be cool if you branched out to other tiers a majority of people are less familiar with and talked about their metas, like Tangela is banned from Little Cup and I could never fathom why
with eviolite and regenerator, it´s pretty much a complete physical wall that can´t be stopped. Even without Eviolite, it is extremely bulky on the physical side. Not to mention that it has Regenerator; meaning that you pretty much have an equivalent of an Steelix with Regenerator on LC. The same goes for Meditite, Drifloon, Slurpuff, Gligar, Misdreavus, Sneasel and Type:Null. Scarfed Meditite destroys everything in the meta. Even Pawniard that is able to kill it by Meditite´s defense stat, it can actually kill it with SP, but you need to weaken Meditite first to do so. The other Drifloon and Slurpuff is because of Unburden that they are ridicolous, since they are able to kill many threats alone, once Unburden activates. Gligar is the same as Tangela, but without Regenerator, and a better defensive typing. Misdreavus would be the Sp. Def wall, since it resists a lot of special hits. LO Sneasel just hits too hard for LC, and anything that isnt faster than Sneasel (which is just a few mons excluding scarfed), will pretty much faint instantly And for last, Type:Null just has too much bulk for LC, and can setup its Sleep Talk offensive set realy fast. Its only checks would be Ghost types, and the only LC Ghost type that is used is Gastly

That buff alone is enough to allow Raichu to invest more in its bulk EVs. If you were to that version of it on a team, you could run an IV spread of 84/0/0/230/56/140 and have special defense as good as Blastoise. Combo that with a move like charge/calm mind and reflect or light screen and that's MORE Than enough to make it last longer. And thanks to the stat buffs, you can have it perform offensively the same as it would in the base game.

The real problem is the anime shitting on it due to trying to hype up its pre evolution. I recently found out the poor guy is lacking move wise to even other stone evolvers which have gained otehr moves through the generations yet all Raichu got was lv1 access to Thunderbolt which has been a TM in every generation but 2...
its movepool is decent it is just outclassed by better electric types in singles heck even gen 2 had zapdos and riakou raining holly thunder

@@anthonypiranio202 IDK in its actual tier placement but it's not used in OU. Jolteon is a good pokemon in its own right but unfortunately it has insane competition. There is just no way it can compete with the likes of tapu Koko, xurkitreee, thunderous,.zoeara, magnezone, and Zapdos. Then you have mega ampherous as a more niche option. There is just no way to justify using Jolteon over all these options.

I don't know how easy this is for you to do, but for Generations I through IV, would you consider mixing footage from both the console and the handheld games? It would be cool if you branched out to other tiers a majority of people are less familiar with and talked about their metas, like Tangela is banned from Little Cup and I could never fathom why
with eviolite and regenerator, it´s pretty much a complete physical wall that can´t be stopped. Even without Eviolite, it is extremely bulky on the physical side. Not to mention that it has Regenerator; meaning that you pretty much have an equivalent of an Steelix with Regenerator on LC.
The same goes for Meditite, Drifloon, Slurpuff, Gligar, Misdreavus, Sneasel and Type:Null. Scarfed Meditite destroys everything in the meta. Even Pawniard that is able to kill it by Meditite´s defense stat, it can actually kill it with SP, but you need to weaken Meditite first to do so.
The other Drifloon and Slurpuff is because of Unburden that they are ridicolous, since they are able to kill many threats alone, once Unburden activates. Gligar is the same as Tangela, but without Regenerator, and a better defensive typing. Misdreavus would be the Sp. Def wall, since it resists a lot of special hits. LO Sneasel just hits too hard for LC, and anything that isnt faster than Sneasel (which is just a few mons excluding scarfed), will pretty much faint instantly
And for last, Type:Null just has too much bulk for LC, and can setup its Sleep Talk offensive set realy fast. Its only checks would be Ghost types, and the only LC Ghost type that is used is Gastly
No physical attacker can kill it

I actually raised a Raichu to pair with my Kyogre after seeing Wolfey win it all. Been using it since in doubles and its truly an amazing support to Kyogre. Very niche, but very good when used well.
