if you’re playing a board online and someone disconnects, they get replaced by a CPU. if they restart their game and now have a good connection, they can rejoin the same game with you, taking over the CPU at the start of the next turn. i was super surprised by this!

@@UltimaKeyMaster My best guess is that we're only now seeing games that've been made after Covid showed up. In theory, there isn't much stopping Nintendo (or the Smash team) from improving Smash's online, but I wouldn't be surprised if Smash's online issues are hard-baked into the game itself (i.e. they'd have to make an entirely new game to fix those problems).
It’s nice to see a mario party that everyone seems to enjoy.
Everyone seemed to enjoy the other one that came out on the Switch, assuming there'd be DLC boards...but there wasn't. That burned me, since I bought it from reviews and didn't get into it. I worry about the same here.
I agree. Super was fun, but the 4 small boards is just not enough. I also grew up with 2 and 3, so the classic boards are a big plus. Here’s hoping a few more boards will come
@@bradharrah3339 with dlc super Mario party could have been great. Maybe not as good as the first 8 or the ds game but still pretty good. But by itself it doesn’t have a lot to it. I can understand why you would wait to see if this one gets dlc.

I really hope they listen to the demands for DLC that were ignored last game. I'd love to see Western Land remixed, heck throw in Chilly Waters too.
Supposedly dataminers found three other unused boards in the game. Two of them had data, and one had no data. Maybe there's a possibility for at least 2 more boards? I'd be satisfied with that.
I think Chilly Waters is the most likely, especially if it arrives for like Christmas

The pinnacle of Mario Party Dreams would be at least 1 board from each game, 1-8 (with maybe boards from Advanced and DS as an extra dream on top of that)...

Both are characters from an entire species, like yoshi and birdo(?) so i'm not sure why having them both playable and non playable is a bad thing, sometimes the way Nintendo developers choose character rosters confuse me...why limit yourself to only a few when you can use all of them?
Yeah, the character roster is one of the few aspects of the game that leaves a lot to be desired. Even Super Mario Party had twice as many characters.
My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.
Of course more boards would be great, especially since it's technically content we've seen before, but it seems like an extremely polished and fun game, and it's awesome that everyone likes it.
And there's SO MANY minigames! With previous games you'd soon be bored playing the same ones over and over. But here I've been playing for hours on end, board after board and I've never seen a duplicate!
That last clip where Yoshi passed the star without having 20 coins...and then got a star from a hidden block. That was amazing.

I’ve seen the opposite happen where on the last turn someone gets a star but then lands on Bowser and gets “lose a star”
Sounds like chaos with a sprinkle of random, but in a good, fun way... unlike Mario Party 9, where it's almost all random, and you get little choice in the matter. Speaking of experience.

Arlo enjoyed this game although he:
-never played an old good mario party before
-didnt mention the achievements even once
-didnt mention the amazing music (i think)
this proves that it really is a great game.
Also doesn't like Multiplayer-focused games. He has a real big chip on his shoulder about games that are entirely about multiplayer from their very concept not offering much single player content.
I really hope that they add online leaderboards to this game, that will really make this game more competitive for no reason

@@skylinegtr3454 What's even more funny is that they made Wii Party and Wii Party U, which are genuinely fun and creative party games, yet it took them 7 tries to make a solid Mario Party (Well, okay, I do think Super was "decent", but even still this game blows the pants off of Super).
@@skylinegtr3454 they were experimenting too much and barely listening to their customers when they moved to NDCube tho, it was a major refusal to go back to the main formula despite the demand, Super returning the og formula and becoming the best selling Mario Party to date must’ve been a wake up call/slap in the face to them xd, and this game getting lots of praise just rubs it further
I wished they used the party 6 mechanic of night and day so we have technically double the minigames when playing the horror board
I like Super Mario Party decent enough, but I can’t imagine going back to it after getting a truly fleshed out Mario Party like this.

Metroid Dread kinda had to be hyped up though. It was a highly requested sequel to a game that came out almost 2 decades ago. But I totally agree with you. I forgot the new MP was a thing until after the reviews came out
How much more hype does the million dollar Mario need?
An underrated part of this game is how it respects the player’s time. The game moves FAST if you want it to and you can make the NPCs move really quickly.
I'm waiting until a sale, as appealing as this is, I'm not sure I can justify buying this at full price with only 5 boards, I get the older Mario Parties didn't have too many boards, but its 2021, and i think its fair to want at least 9, especially since its not an annual series anymore, but still good to hear the content that is there is high quality. I will say the minigame selection is great though.

The game itself is fun even though the board amount is lacking.
This is a jazzed up graphics 64 game. In a franchise that was never really about the graphics anyway. I can't see how anyone would justify 60 for this outside of just not caring.
@@ZawaOnTH-cam the online???... Unless you just don't have friends with Switch's. Which is one of the best games to have it. 98 percent of the time, it's flawless. Do you not like fun? Who cares that it's a remake of the 64 boards and Minigames. Mario Party has gone downhill since 9 until Super, which was a half attempt. If this gets NDCube to make a new game in the classic style, I'm all for it.
Both of you are missing the point. It's fine if it's cool and fun but it ain't no 60 dollar game. Ain't no one stopping you from paying for it. In my opinion though, it's overpriced for what it is.

Hot take: 10 characters is actually perfectly fine bc the average roster across the entire series is 9 characters. Smp's 20 characters wasnt a rule or standard it was the exception bc of its ally system and character dice blocks

- It's the first first-party Nintendo game supported in Brazilian Portuguese (and the first Nintendo game in portuguese in general since the Wii U times, last time was European Portuguese);

I’m glad Arlo noticed how the games intro feels so reverent of the past games. As if there is some Mario Party timeline lol. It’s rare that Nintendo makes actual acknowledgments of an old game coming back, like the way the dialogue talks about the parties long ago. Instead we get a port that basically acts like the events are happening again and there is no memory of them happening before. This stuff isn’t important but it makes the experience feel bigger than just a board game
As one of those who has been, as you say, "into Mario Party" throughout the entire good half of the series (and sporting the palm scars to prove it), I can say this is _absolutely everything_ I had imagined and wanted and _begged_ Mario Party to be. I'm so glad they played it safe by not doing any new hit-or-miss gimmicks, yet also had the boldness to make the game all the fans had been clamoring for.
Heck, I'd have been satisfied even if they'd just directly ported all the minigames right in, crappy graphics and all. But _noooo..._ they went full throttle on it and painstakingly re-did and remastered and rebuilt everything from the ground up, in full, detailed 3D. They remastered the music, and filled the whole game with throwbacks to Mario Party 1, which always held that "brand new adventure" feel to it, where anything could happen, and it wasn't just about the multiplayer.
It's easy to remember Mario's masterpieces of the 3D era like Mario 64 and Mario Kart, while totally forgetting all the genius ways Mario Party 1 (and 2 and 3) experimented and pioneered in that space alongside them. I've always held the series in high regard, hoping against hope with every passing Nintendo Direct that some dev _somewhere_ would make a game that was a true return to form. And I can hardly believe it's here.
The only thing that could possibly make it better in my mind would be DLC. If they just kept expanding on it with new maps, characters, minigame remasters, whatever they want... I'd pay out the nose for it. Even some of the stuff from Super Mario Party, like partners and co-op maps, were pretty great, and my kids and I would welcome them for sure! But even as it is, I am truly, finally satisfied.
Exactly. The music has no right to go this hard, NDCube somehow made competent online play and they didn’t have to add all small the extra details (water and lava physics, footprints in the snow, the entirety of Snowball Summit and Bowser’s Big Blast, seeing the characters’ breath in snowy mini games, modernizing the controls and ironing out softlocks for the games) yet they did. I don’t even own a Switch yet, let alone played this but it’s easily my favourite Mario Party because of the ‘brand new adventure’ feel. You can tell that Mario Party Superstars has so much love put into it. The only things that could make this game better is tweaking the coin economy, filling out the character roster, adding a few more boards and maybe some more minigames.
I'm also new to Mario Party. I remember I enjoyed Mario Party 10 when I bought it years ago, but I was never really into the series until a few years ago. On the night before Halloween, I met up with 2 close friends to play the game. (I was Mario, and my two friends were Link and Peach.)
This game is so much fun, and it was so fun to play it with friends, and I don't even own it yet! I definitely will when the time comes!

@@enskje I think there is a pretty solid reason for why Super had no post release support. That being the Switch Light. This game does not have that problem.

Honestly, I think it's *nearly* perfect. If only they added some GCN boards, then it'd be perfect. But as is, it's the best Mario Party we've had in a long, long while. Since the Hudson days, I'd say.
Superstars is definitely a better "Mario Party package" with the huge boards and 1-10 die, though I do wish they kept all the extra modes and such from Super

You can tell Arlo is a newcomer to the series, the Hub world characteristics it’s a nice reminiscence of early Mario Party titles. And for what I see they really really put the best minigames of the series. Man, now I’m seriously thinking about getting this
I’ve declined of getting into new Mario Parties since the 8th and haven’t heard anything good from the successors. This one might do it
My body is ready for that Metroid Dread review
My one complaint about the gane is it is 99% old stuff. I would love to see stuff Super did great return as well as more MP 8-10 love. Not everything in 8-10 was divise. Like co-op, rhythm minigames, playable enemies, boss battles, custom dice block, etc.

I don’t have the game yet, but this is like, a dream game for me. A Mario Party that draws from all the older games? It’s the Sonic Generations for Mario Party. It feels like what The Top 100 wanted to do, but actually also being what fans wanted- a best of game that lovingly pays homage to the older games it draws from. I really hope for DLC just because I would be over the moon to get more old boards revisited in glorious HD.
Also, this game’s not even that light on boards, as an aside and in my opinion. Mario Party typically has 6 boards, but they have done 5 in the past with titles like Party DS.
Imagine a fall guys esque minigame battle game mode, something like a 64 man single elim bracket where everyone plays the same minigames at the same time, split into groups of 4, winners progress to the next group. Maybe a battle minigame for the finals, maybe a losers bracket. I'd play that.
That joke at the end really was perfect.

I loved watching you and Vinny play with Shesez and Ross. You sounded out of your comfort zone around Vinny and Ross tho which kinda saddens me. They may use colorful language but they're awesome dudes and I know Vinny loves your content and I got excited to see he was playing a game with you. Glad you like the game Arlo. Mario Party is a game that me and my family love to play and so I hope they either add DLC or a free content update to add new boards, namely from 8 like Koopa’s Tycoon Town or the Shy Guy Express since me and my family are big fans of 8 and we still go back to it. Superstars is still really fun and I’m glad we have it

Any time a Mario Party comes out, I always think "Surely the Mario Party fan base will like this one!" But it never works out that way. I do wonder what they think of this new one, though.

To me, this is the remaster I’ve been waiting for almost my whole life. This is one of my favorite games on the system now.
i had no idea about this until now but it looks like fun. it seems a lot more like the mario party games i grew up with compared to the other recent entries i've seen

I am DANGEROUSLY addicted to Mario Party and this is all I could have asked for from this aside from more boards. The items, the boards, most minigames (and the amount too) and the collectibles are all awesome and meet or even surpass what past games had imo. And the stickers, oh god the stickers bring everything up a notch too

Even though (maybe especially since) you aren't a huge MP fan, it's great to hear that you found this a satisfying entry. I picked this title up for my 6 year old Daughter for Christmas, and I can't wait to play it with her as a family.
I usually don't pay too much attention to sponsorship segments (sometimes I'll even skip them outright), but something about Arlo's sponsorship segments just keeps my attention every time.
Manage to get this game yesterday and I really like it. It's nice to see a game to showcase the history of the Mario Party Games.
Although in my opinion, I wish there could be some more characters and maybe 5 more boards added in this game.

I love Superstars, it's so much fun playing and watching others play it!
I'm a Mario Party fan, I've played all games from the first one to the latest ones and there's such an attention to detail here that I didn't expect to see, it was a big plus for me.
Even if you aren't a long-time fan and won't catch all the references, the core Mario Party experience is back even if with some changes, mostly improvements, and it's just a lot of fun, offline and online!
I really hope we'll see DLC, especially boards, to make this fantastic game even better!
Not to mention the music in this game is just superb, when I think of Mario Party music, especially from 10 to Super, I can hardly remember any tracks from them besides a nice amount from 1-3 and a handful from 4-9. These tracks however are SO GOOD and pay respect to those that came before it. The smaller details just hit so much harder than expected with the last 5 turn remixes as well and if you have any nostalgia for these games they hit right in the heart.
That's one Smexy looking Game, after enjoying Super Mario Party so much - I'm all down for playing this one with friends : D Fingers crossed they actually add more boards down the road this time : )
As someone who is properly into Mario Party, this game absolutely blew me away. I've already poured hours into it and I LOVE it.

I think it would be cool to see this game get updates that add more boards/minigames/characters like maybe if we got some handheld representation like minigames from MPA (Duel Minigames), MPDS, MPIT, and MPSR as well as some boards from the GameCube mario parties, 8, and DS. I'd also like to see some side modes return like Duel Mode from MP3, Card Party from MP5, Toad Scramble from MPSR, Rocket Rascals from MPDS. Would be nice to see those return.
This game put Mario Party back in the spotlight. When Super Mario Party came out a lot of people didn’t play it and it didn’t catch on. Part of that is because Smash was right around the corner, part of it was because of the lack of online at the time but in general the game wasn’t very well received and many people didn’t play it. When the game got online it helped a bit but it didn’t encourage people who didn’t already play it much to play it more. This game on the other hand has caught on in the best way possible and I’m so happy for that. So many people are playing it on live streams and everyone is having a great time with it. It helps that this game had full online at launch and to a lesser extant Smash DLC being done. But the biggest reason for the game catching on so well is because this game is the perfect gateway for newcomers and at the same time a fantastic experience for veteran players. I heavily commend the devs for making the experience fantastic for both extremes seamlessly. This game is just pure essence of how magical the Mario Party series is and I’m sure it will become of biggest multiplayer/party games on the switch in the coming months.

I completely agree about the coop mode! Honestly it was the best part about the last Mario Party and I was sad to see it not included in this one. My girlfriend and I exclusively play the coop mode. It's a lot of fun!

I played a match with my family yesterday, and I got two hidden blocks with stars in them within the span of four turns. I've never had so much luck in a Mario Party game in my life
