- I went to check in what kondition the local gravel roads are. And I found this nice piece of winding road with slight downhill. Let's see how fast I dare to ride it.

you're in your living room, confortable and suddenly, a Finn say 'oh shit" descending a narrow road, it does kind of make you sit upright!
And yes, it would be fun to see the drifting on the ice.......and then, I would sit upright again!
Ice drifting in the Quattrovelo sounds like a lot of fun with the rear wheel drive. I'd love to see how controllable it is after some practice!
I hit the "Like" button at 15 seconds and paused to make a coffee. Now, time to enjoy 😎
I switched to the weaker lights up front because of the problems you have with the strong lights. Instead, I mounted the stronger lamps with brackets to the mirrors. The lamps at the mirrors have a switch each. I have directed the right lamp at the right mirror towards the ditch so that I can use it when I am dazzled by cars. The lamp at the left mirror is directed straight ahead and quite high. I use that lamp when I want to see extra much or mark against cars that dazzle me. The disadvantage of having two extra lights at the mirrors is that the aerodynamics deteriorate a bit. But otherwise I am extremely happy.

This was pretty fun to watch. I have sometimes the same problem with my headlights. I blinding sometimes people. But in the other hand I need to see the people walking around. And there are many people walking around here on the cycle lanes.

This is a fun video! Thanks. As you know, here in the US there's probably not 1 person in 10,000 who even knows what a velomobile is, and I've never seen one in person. If I were younger, I might go for one myself, and it would be a QV. I would love to load it up with camping gear in the spring or summer and just take off for a week or so in some direction or other. Of course, finding camping spots could be a problem, as the velomobile would be harder to push into the woods.
If I were you, I would mount a low-power light to shine on the spedo at night and side lights to illuminate turns, which you could easily switch on and off with a button on the tiller. Of course, you can have too many buttons and/or switches, I suppose.
I just wish that you had won the lottery before you placed the order and might, therefore, have ordered the electric assist. :-)
I don’t understand, how can anyone be too old for a velomobile? If you feel that you can climb in, then just go for it and buy one for yourself until it’s too late.

Yep, you are right. Luckily I don’t have to ride sharp corners in darkness too often.
I've been planning to get some ski attachments for my quest and figuring out a way to attach them to the front wheel struts. Then, using some studded tires, it's possible to velomobile around a large lake in my area which freezes over totally every winter.

I was expecting a moose, or some other large critter, to make a sudden appearance, as you were swiftly flying down those dark winding roads. Glad that didn't happen.

Your gravel roads are much better than ours. We have ours turn to washboard surfaces, and that would still be their condition with the amount of snow you have on those roads. Plus, lots of rocks, but that's just the geology of a high mountain desert.🤷♂️

I'm not sure what the costs there would be but it cost me $120 USD for a set of Schwalbe 396 studded Winter tires in 2008. I changed them out for a set of the Marathon Winter Pro tires last year for $240 USD. Pretty spendy but the old ones weren't worn out yet at eleven years old. I wanted a more aggressive tire, so I upgraded to the Pro, with a lot more studs in it. I fully expect them to give me more than ten years of service, so the cost isn't too bad. I run their Big Ben tires the rest of the year and have gone through 5 sets of them and 2 sets of Big Apples during the same time frame. Would be a real kick to see you pulling donuts in the Quattro.
I think it should be reasonably easy to make a higher capacity battery pack using 18650 sanyo cells, that way you can use high beam at least 50% longer.

I don't understand why the gravel roads are in better shape. Why is that!? 🤔 I never saw snow in my life, by the way. That's why I'm asking this question.
Man, you gotta use that back seat in the QV to take a navigator with you, who will keep telling you what's coming ahead, just like we see in rally cars! 😁
If the road is well ploughed, then the smaller roads usually have prety smooth surface of hard packed snow. Paved roads with more traffic tend to have deep tyre tracks in the hard packed snow and there will be also more ”potholes” etc. So much more rough surface.

I think you couldn't have done it with the Quest without leaving the road. The Quattrovelo seems to be much more stable when it is slippery and when you have go through bends. What is your first hand impression on that presumption?
That's correct. Quest would be just too unstable for this kind of riding.
Indeed it seems a lot of fun ! Never would I dare to do this with the DF :') For the issue with light beam not moving with velomobile turning, I solved this issue by wearing a head lamp when riding. It work quite nicely, but I do not know how it would do with the Quattrovelo hood and visor :/ Keep it up for the great videos !
PS : Would you have some advices for velomobile rides recording ? Especially image stabilization and camera position.
Now I'm using DJI Osmo Action cameras with pretty good image stabilization. I mount the cameras with adhesive GoPro mounts. Best advice I can give to you is to use a camera with decent image stabilization and mount it to some solid spot.
I might actually do a video about my camera gear & equipment sometime in the near future.

Woo Hoo! Iʻve been wondering about road maintenance in Finland. Do you have to contend with road salt? I live in Maine, USA where salt prevents me from riding anything expensive for a third of the year.
They use salt on highways but not on smaller roads. But anyway, the salt doesn’t do anything if it’s -20°C, so that’s why it’s not used too much.
Ice drifting video please!
I tried to drift my trike once. Hit the ONLY spot on the road that wasn't covered in ice just as I turned the handle bars; flipped the trike, bounced my head off the pavement. NOT FUN, so be careful. This is for sure a place where 4 wheels would beat three. Have you considered adding automotive "clear bra" to the bottom and lower sides to protect the beautiful finish from rocks, gravel and ice ?
Yes, I've done that. I put some protective film behind wheels. I made a video about that and it's coming, but there's so many better videos in the pipeline which I want to show you first :D

Yes it actually does quite often.

I made it with Garmin Virb software. It just overlays gps data to an existing video file.
@@TheVelomobileChannel Saukki, can you use that software to overlay Garmin GPS data from a Garmin device (Fenix watch or 530 / 830 cycle computer) to ANY video file? So, if you don't have a Garmin VIRB camera, but say a GoPro, can you still overlay the GPS data? I try to get a Garmin VIRB 360, but they are not available anymore and are difficult to find.
@@Taoweiji Yes you can. I use Wahoo GPS bike computer and DJI action cameras. As long as the Virb edit supports your gps file and video file formats, then you can overlay the data to a video.
If I remember correctly, it supports .gpx and .fit files and .mp4 video files.
