Counter rocket, artillery, and mortar, abbreviated C-RAM or counter-RAM, is a set of systems used to detect and/or destroy incoming rockets, artillery, and mortar rounds in the air before they hit their ground targets, or simply provide early warning.
The Phalanx CIWS is a close-in weapon system for defense against incoming threats such as small boats, surface torpedoes, anti-ship missiles and helicopters. It was designed and manufactured by the General Dynamics Corporation, Pomona Division, later a part of Raytheon.
A close-in weapon system is a point-defense weapon system for detecting and destroying short-range incoming missiles and enemy aircraft which have penetrated the outer defenses, typically mounted shipboard in a naval capacity. Nearly all classes of larger modern warships are equipped with some kind of CIWS device.

I'm afraid of putting Phalanx CIWS on the Yamato... in a sense... that's overkill since she had an impressive AA defenses onboard

Yamato was actually known to have infamously horrible arrangement of AA batteries... that's why they refitted it to put more AA guns mid war I believe

At shooting 9,000 rounds per minute for each gun, they weren't just shooting down the japanese pilots, they were turning them into sliced sushi!
Its so satisfying that they instantly explode when they get hit
It's historically accurate! The much-vaunted Jap ZERO had a fuel injected radial engine.
Which meant they always had fuel flow to their engines. This allowed it to perform maneuvers that our carbeurated piston engines would stall trying to perform because carbeuration depends upon gravity and the maneuvers would pull the gas away from the engine intake manifold.
The Zero was light but cheaply made, they lacked the baffled and self-sealing gas tanks that our planes had and our pilots soon learned that only 1 or 2 rounds from a .30 caliber gun or 20 mm cannon could set it on fire or make it disintegrate. The Japs had a very poor WWI era gun for use in dogfights that was completely inadequate and it took them a long time to bring one of our planes down with it.
I know this is a game simulation, but the carriers would not be that close together in formation. Sometimes they couldn't even see each other. Midway is an atoll with two islands large enough to use as a base but at its highest point it's less than 70 feet high, but in the background I see mountains. There are no mountains on Midway and no other islands close enough to see from the ships. Also, the ships were not in sight of the atoll during the battle. Unlimited ammo and no stoppage for barrel overheating added to what I already pointed out makes this a cute little video, but not realistic at all even if we had the weapons. This is about as realistic as a cartoon and does not show what would have happened if.
Battle of Midway would’ve been a whole lot different if the Americans were packing BRRT cannons.
Only difference: Yorktown and Hamann survive.

Now can you program in a realistic attack profile of what the Val's and Kate's would be doing? CIWS is what it is, but close in defense is not area defense, especially against a mass attack close in (which for what it was designed to do should never happen to it, since the SM-1/2's should have taken care of most of the problem.)
Please, make battle WW2 (Midway, Ivo-Jima, Perl Harbour with Aiprplanes and ships) !!!

The only problem here is with a large Japanese raid wouldn't the ciws run out of ammo with such a large number of targets?
The CIWS should theoretically need to fire a great deal less. It shouldn't take but a couple of bursts per aircraft if the radar tracking is up to the task.
And to think that most of the Japanese planes were very lightly armored if any armor what so ever. The Zeke's (Zero's), Val's, and Kate's.

Wishful thinking. Unlimited ammo and the gun barrels never overheat, no matter how many rounds are fired? I like the concept of modern weapons in WW2 settings, nonetheless.
It would actually take alot to overheat. The spinning barrels and fins to force air over.

The biggest problem I see any enemy going against the Phalanx fire control system. There aircraft carriers go home without the planes.

phalanx weapon systems are weak against swarm tactics given the outrageous rate of fire they expend their amuntion so fast (optimistically 30 seconds) before requiring reloading WW2 AA defences would have been more effective in my opion.
Now EVERY Japanese attack becomes a (fruitless) kamikaze mission.
