I served aboard an aircraft carrier with three 20MM CIWS on board. I'm curious. This reproduction with tracers is for us, the viewer, NOT the radar-guided CIWS. The tracer round is used for aiming purposes, for a human. CWIS is TRACKING the threat, by RADAR, making tracer aiming obsolete; at best, redundant. In real life, NO tracers would be loaded into a CIWS, especially since shipboard CIWS can only fire for 8 minutes, before requiring a reload. That was back in 1986. I'm sure my stats are probably obsolete by now, too.

Being a motor transport / rifle man in the Marine Corps 74-78 with knowledge of a few weapons , you guys should be doing effects for big movies .
