    SlingStudio Wireless Multi-Camera Production and Live video Broadcasting
    Description:
    The SlingStudio Hub can work off of battery power, so it's truly portable. Once you power it on, it acts as a wireless access point. Install the SlingStudio Capture app on your smart device and connect to the SlingStudio Hub (wifi network). From an iPad with the SlingStudio Console app installed, you can view all of the different video being streamed from every device connected.
    You can choose to record just the program feed locally on an SDXC card, or external USB drive as your switching camera angles, or you can record each of the feeds individually to edit later. There is also a dedicated Audio line in if you're working with a mixer or even a simple wireless mic system. If you have internet access at your location, you can choose to Broadcast Live to any of the popular social networks (Facebook, TH-cam, etc).
    There's a number of features any multi-camera live production would need such as graphic overlays, and various transitions. When working with a Smartphone and Capture app, there's even a Tally display that tells the operator when their camera angle is being used.
    Pros:
    The most exciting part of SlingStudio for me is the completely wireless workflow - right down to the Hub running off battery power. Not only can you use accessible smart devices for a multi-camera production, but you can also add your professional camera systems.
    Notes:
    I haven't had the chance to test SlingStudio in a long project yet, but there are a few things I could already advise. If you're planning on using a smartphone, use good hardware. The better the hardware, the smoother the video will stream back to the SlingStudio hub. And if you're planning on shooting for a short while, make sure you have a charger on hand. The Wifi connection and streaming video back to the hub consumes a fair amount of battery power.
    There's also a small 2 second or so delay in the video feed when viewing from the iPad. This is not something to be concerned about if you're not outputting the display to a live audience in real time. People who are watching from a Live Stream on the internet are usually delayed 30-45 seconds by providers like Facebook and TH-cam anyways. The delay is also not a problem if you're planning to just record all the streams to edit later.
    I'm excited to try the new SlingStudio out on a few projects, but if you have any questions or comments now, let me know. I'll try to implement those answers on my next follow up video.

    This should've had some kind of 4G modem connectivity either built-in or some type of Sim card tray in fact some type of bonding for a cellular network would've been great really set this product apart and made it worth getting. Also the iPad or phone being used to switch the entire program should also be able to be brought in as a source simultaneously there are apps like live to air by Taradek and switch her studio on the market that already do this. The ability to bring in things like graphics scoreboards and B roll video from the unit would also be very helpful. The great part about this unit is I'm sure we're going to see lots of updates in the software.

    Since I'm a wedding videographer, I'm very interested in what kind of thing it is. Can I use it at the wedding event. Wireless shooting has interested me for a long time. Since we have in the region streaming over the Internet is not possible, it automatically disappears. Will I be able to take pictures and files on the USB flash drive
    Using Adobe Premiere to save time on editing? After the end of the event, can I get a ready project? Or will I have to edit again?
    Can I get the finished product? Or this device is used only with the connected Internet and for streaming?

    • @MrCheesyCam
      @MrCheesyCam  7 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @MrCheesyCam
      @MrCheesyCam  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Joe Mizera You can stream directly, but you need to connect the 'hub' to wifi internet connection. Iphones connect to slingstudio, sling studio needs to connect to internet to live stream. Without internet you can only multicam switch and record.

    • @MrCheesyCam
      @MrCheesyCam  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Stefan Peterson There's a hundred reasons why people left Canon, and you just named one of them. Unless your camera offers clean HDMI out it would not be ideal for live streaming. Yes you can hook up a mixer and use the Line In on the hub to send the audio feed.

    So the 2 second delay.... can be good for sports !! but.. must be fast.... looking at the 'real world', you see somebody score or, do something... you could in theory get that 'shot' with the right camera :)

    This is awesome. But it will be nice if we are be able to do simultaneous streaming on Facebook and TH-cam with Sling Studio. I am thinking that if we plug a Digital AV or VGA adapter on our apple device, connect it via Ultrastudio Mini Recorder, and then into our Mac book which we would have already had Wirecast installed. Then through Wirecast we can do simultaneous streaming to Facebook and TH-cam. Would this work? Please reply.

    • @MrCheesyCam
      @MrCheesyCam  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The delay is what you see on the ipad, which may not be as long on the hub. I am still doing more tests.

    • @kuliatv
      @kuliatv 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      2 second delay - does that impact the timing of switching to a different camera? I suppose you would "monitor" the actual activity/talent to anticipate cut points rather than watching the iPad, but would the switch happen in real time, or is there a noticeable delay for that, too?

    • @MrCheesyCam
      @MrCheesyCam  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Normally switching for broadcast happens in a different room, so you wouldn't even notice the delay that's happening somewhere else. You're watching the program from the multiview and just working with that. So as you cut to a different camera angle, it's happening in that timeframe. The delay should only be a problem if you are outputting the real time program to an audience that is watching the action in real time.

    Is there any sync issues when using the 1/8" line-in?
    Let's say you are streaming a conference. And you are feeding audio from the mixer straight to the Sling Studio. Will the audio be out of sync with the:
    a) video through direct HDMI in
    b) video through camera link
    c) video from smartphone
    Would be quite interested to know how audio syncing fairs in all three scenarios. Thanks!

    Hi you mention there's a 2 sec delay. You mean there's a delay from the moment the event happen and what you see on the ipad?

    • @MrCheesyCam
      @MrCheesyCam  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Kenny Shem Yes the ipad view will be delayed to the action. This buffer helps to ensure different cameras and audio are in sync during he broadcast. Viewers on the other end of the live stream won't notice anything. Most live streams are delayed around 30-45 seconds from what you record in studio anyways. They don't see real time.

    • @shem44
      @shem44 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks for the info. Have you tried the distance range limit? As they are using WIFI, I'm not sure if the range is sufficient for a professional production. If they can come out with a WIFI extender that will further strengthen the signal range.

    • @MrCheesyCam
      @MrCheesyCam  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Kenny Shem Distance is further with the CameraLink wifi adapter on a camera. An iphone 7 will have good range, an ipod touch has less range because its cheaper hardware. Its a great system just have to be realistic about multi camera angle placements. I mean even if you went with a wired live Switch, HDMI can only work at 10FT, SDI around 200-300ft. If you want further you need Fiber Optic. This gives you the flexibility and ease of use not found in any other solution and for a budget friendly price.

    • @MrCheesyCam
      @MrCheesyCam  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think it would work well for even a 720p stream. You need about 3-5 MBs of sustained upload speed for a good 720 resolution stream. For remote areas where you don't have wifi, it is suggested to use the technology called 'bonding'. You could research that, and that basically takes several dongles (hot spot devices) and bonds all of the data services together for fast upload speeds.

      Streaming to both from one network will eat up bandwidth. There are services you can use such as ReStream which can take one upstream and stream to as many services as you want. Though it is a paid service...

    • @MrCheesyCam
      @MrCheesyCam  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it is possible and no sync issues. Keep in mind you need a line in signal. The hub does not have plug-in power. So if you want to attach a microphone directly in, it would have to be a powered microphone (like a Rode videomic, or a mic that has it’s own batteries).

    We dont get explanation on wifi hotspot details
    In my opinion, wifi quality also main part of the system, I dont see any explanation that the HUB has its own DHCP server or transmitting power
    What is the wifi band using 2,4 or 5, bandwidth specs also no information
    If you recorded to a hard drive or sd card that means it is transmitting full ress and that is huge bandwidth
    What is the performance of transmitting and receiving
    Also more detail on battery power of camera link, how to extend the battery performance on camera link ? Looks like small battery inside camera link
    Also more information on how to live streaming, connecting to wifi or hotspot, etc,
    this is a huge bandwidth we are talking, and all control from an iPad ?
    Does this seems like a toy for pro's ?

    • @MrCheesyCam
      @MrCheesyCam  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +parts parts You are not transmitting full quality. It is recording a compressed streamed video (either from an app or from camera link) where you can adjust quality but only up to 30Mbps. Wireless details are specified in on their product page (link in description). CameraLink is charged over USB so you can power over USB too. Is this a Toy for Pros?
      Umm keep in mind that even Pros are using youtube or facebook live, and no matter how good your equipment is, you're subject to their compressed live stream from their service. The final output will only be as good as the delivery platform.
      Is this for Broadcast Television?? No that quality is not there. Can you record from and edit the footage later for broadcast Tv? Maybe, but you're not getting the full quality compared to recording in-camera, so not suggested.
      This is not a replacement for other high end switchers. This is a product that 'fills a huge gap' in the market for people that dont always need high end switchers, or for people just starting out with live switching/streaming.
      There are more content creators shooting with iphones and consumer cameras on youtube today than there are high end filmmakers. More people spend time on TH-cam than they do watching TV. This product is leveraging where media is shifting, and will continue to shift. It may not be right for you, but this product is already a huge success with others.

    • @tongkiparts4672
      @tongkiparts4672 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      MrCheesyCam I get your point but the hard drive and sd card part really buggy and annoying, it makes it looks like for pro's and no need backup on camera
      And yes, you answer that part clearly
      Another part is,
      I don't see RJ45 port, and no explanation on connecting to hotspot, does it has own DHCP server, etc
      My concern is, if I built this system, I want the wireless transmission and receiving to be perfect,
      I wanna make sure I can connect it to switching hub using RJ45 and added more access point using Ubiquity, etc
      We are talking about their video samples, events, wedding, that means lots of space and wireless do have limitations unless you are making bridging using peer to peer or something to make it far more reach and they did not explain about it on their website including bandwidth for live streaming
      I am kinda IT guy and this specs really confusing
      Wireless AC is their specs but as far as I know, it is not that great for long distance and or outdoor performance
      This is not clear on their website
      About the toy for pro's,
      I think control using iPad making it looks like a toy, why don't they make it controllable using laptop ???
      Also by using laptop we might get choice to backup to another hard drive from laptop, also using laptop you can connect RJ45 to laptop, if they have that port on the hub, which is that is what I asked
      I know wireless AC performance, they are great but not that great, for 10 connections and live from iPad and streaming online ?
      I don't think so, please make demo using distance not in the same room to test it and no smartphone on test, all using camera link
      Explanation why using iPad makes it looks like a toy,
      Using laptop you get better power source for professional work, you don't depend on iPad for battery performance

    • @MrCheesyCam
      @MrCheesyCam  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I think you're not clear about the product. If I wanted to, I could use high end cameras like a Panasonic GH5. I could record internally with my cameras in 4K resolution, and the HDMI is 1080 streaming back to SlingStudio (and being recorded to an SD or USB drive), while streaming to the Internet (being recorded once again). So there's three different recordings happening, and you can still record highest resolution in 4K in camera to edit later.
      Why RJ45 port? Who needs that when working with a system like this? When you turn the slingstudio on, it becomes a hotspot for your iPhone or the CameraLink adapter. This isn't a router with a gateway and DHCP. It doesn't need to be as it's not doing any file transfers from one computer to the next. It is merely connected to incoming video and audio sources and it records it. There is no DHCP.
      How does it connect to the Internet for streaming? You do this from the iPad app. Just click where you want to stream (facebook, youtube, etc). There is no custom RTMP server settings. Just options with popular streaming services.
      Switch from a Laptop? That seems like more of a hassle to me. Battery life on an iPad? Just plug in a USB battery pack, and run all day. I use my V-Mount batteries with a USB connector and that should run probably 20 hours.
      Wireless range? They do specify this in their specs also. It's 300ft LOS (optimal settings). If you don't think this is enough, then you need a different setup all together. A good wireless HD transmitter that can send both video and audio is easily over $1K for just one camera, and that doesn't include any type of switching. That's only sending video and audio to a monitor.

      We ordered a Sling Studio to rent from Borrowedlenses. I plan to use it for a three cam setup at our May graduation. Glad you addressed the 300 ft. LOS.
