As far as I’m aware AWD is easier to drift because it delivers power to all 4 wheels, plus a drift is usually initiated by locking the wheels with some speed into a turn so the car slides.
It’s definitely possible. Check out some old Ken Block videos of him drifting the hell out of a his ‘65 mustang that was converted into an AWD beast- or even his ‘16 focus which was also AWD.
