A lot of TH-camrs who play bass have commented on Misa's tone. My impression is that even compared to other pro players the quality of her tone is remarkable. Those good "old" days. They were brilliant then, and in the time since they have continued to grow and grow to incredible heights. In Band-Maid we can trust - unconditionally.
You think the song is going to peak at the solo, then, like most bands, go into a slow and simple wandering bridge then go full steam in the final chorus as a big finale. Nope, they instead immediately changeup the song with a two-part bridge, that quickly ramps back up in the first half then the second half goes all out with a new, energetic and bouncy hook that's just as good as the main hook then uses the third chorus as an outro that cools down the song as it ends. They moved the grand finale. That's simply genius and I consider progressive song composition. Just a class above contemporary music.
You’ll be in their corner if they switched genres? Nittpicc, they ARE a genre and they sometimes switch genres within a song. What I asked Santa for Christmas this year is for you to react to their song “I’LL” which is an audio track only. The look on your face on that one would be priceless!

YOLO is the only Band-Maid song I've ever taken off my Band-Maid playlist ... but it's not what you think. I got the YOLO single after getting Just Bring It, so including the instrumental, if I hit shuffle on my Band-Maid catalog I'd hear YOLO three times as often as any other song. Maid deep cut songs...that's where the real action is 💪❤🔥 This entire CD single is awesome. I'm addicted at the moment to the b-side of 'Glory', a rockin little tune 'Hide-And-Seek' 🥳👌🤘🤘🤘
One of my favorite Saiki songs, for the melody, the sound of the lyrics, and because it's pitched perfectly for Saiki's voice. I'd love to hear her do this solo on a piano. Also, the 1..2..4..1 emphasis (two galloping kick notes from Akane) at the beginning of the verses (I think?) is just effing cool. Have a great Sunday!
For some background, from 2014-early 2016, Band-Maid released 3 standard-play albums (not EPs!) with only one single release (Matador/Thrill) between 1 & 2. After the release of SP Brand New Maid, they started releasing "singles" with either one or two B sides. Yolo was the first of these in Nov 2016. The B sides SHOULD NOT be ignored. Yolo contained 2 B sides, "Unfair Game" and "Matchless Gum," both of which (as They established with Thrill) are as, if not more, excellent.
There is baby Maid, there is new Maid, but I have yet to hear or see any bad Maid. This is another really good song. It's not in my top 50, but that's only because they have so damn many great songs to choose from. This is how good they are. I NEVER skip any songs on any album or playlist. NittPicc, I love your passion. "Fuck it! Yes Ma'am! Yes Ma'am!" LOL! You are one of the things I am thankful for this holiday season. Please send the love of the Maidiacs to your family and friends! Kuruppo!
This is one of my favourite songs full stop especially the solo. Full on finger tapping with the little slip back to the high fret to finish it off. Which she also does on the guitar battle on Hate?. The piano version is beautiful 😍 also.
YOLO is a phenomenal song! If you listen more than once it will become your favorite!! Regarding Kanami, it’s not the fact that she makes it look easy, her genius is in her compositions! You being a musician know that each part in a composition takes time to find what fits! I’m impressed for the fact that she can remember every note live!! I have a license plate named after her
You can always tell which Era of BAND-MAID it is by their gear. Miku doesn't have her Sheena Ringo Rickenbacker anymore, like she did in 'Thrill', 'Alone' & 'Real Existence'. She has switched to Zemaitis, but she has moved on from the Tele Style with the Round Metal Face, it's the Aces & Eights. MISA has retired her 4 String Fender Jazz Bass and switched to her G&L, like in 'Before Yesterday. And Kanami hasn't switched to PRS and is still rocking her Addictone Super Strat. Not sure if Akane is still on Sonar or Tama. Never seen that logo. But just like MISA always plays Lead Bass, Kanami's solos are never over. She takes her position as Lead Guitar very seriously. She's not going to reinforce Miku's Rhythm Guitar if it doesn't need it. And when it doesn't she will weave Leads throughout the song wherever she thinks it needs it. Love that about her writing. If fact, if she needs to, she will through another lead guitar on the backing tracks. Changed genre? They are a genre! Like many of their songs, Yolo was not in my top ten, but the more I hear it the higher it gets. If not #10 maybe it's 11, or 12. With well over 100 songs it gets hard to keep a list.
Hola. It was the second time I saw Mincho do a tapping (first time Onset). OMG.😯 This girl is Eddie Van Halen's daughter I thought to myself. YOLO is always a pleasure to listen to. Awesome. Thanks NittPick.
I have seen live clips of this song and they had that same glitchy sounding intro on a backing track. I would agree that Misa is picking the shiz-nit out of that bass, but that is not really anything new. That look on your face when Kanami did the tapping was priceless.
Great song, albeit admittedly not one of my favourite Band-Maid offerings. BUT there's something truly magical about that extended transition from the middle section to the final, half-time chorus. It just kind of glides and shapeshifts and builds in intensity. It's wonderful, and a real glimpse of the kind of magic that lay ahead. I must echo the suggestions by others to look at the B-sides from this single. Especially 'Matchless Gum'.
I would expect her to resurrect the old green PRS ,or Addictone during retrospective okyujis. Band Maid continually morphs into different forms of greatness but will never forget where they came from .
@@frankandre4385 Frankly, Frank.. (tee-hee), I really don't think she's allowed to use the Addictones anymore. I think there's some sort of bad blood between Addictone and the management. I don't know what difference MAIDIT co. makes, but the fact she has a signature model with PRS now makes it improbable I think. It's still my dream guitar. They still make it, too! 🙂🤘🎸

Akane used to play Sonar drums, later switched to Tama. If she's wearing a tiny hat, that's an old video. But I love their music...how they evolved. How they don't trap themselves in a single genre.
I love YOLO in all versions, the one we just heard, the piano version (with Kanami playing), and the Band-Maiko version. Sounds like a special video???😂 Good to see you back, happy, laughing, and playing Band-Maid (and other music).
Arigato NittPicc ojosama! YOLO is a chiseled gem of a song. Lots of part-independence and counterpoint; Band-Maid's refusal to repeat verses( ™); Kanami's ostinato pattern with the glissando; return of motifs, like the opening riff, which is cool enough at the beginning, but even cooler at the end when it combines with all the other melodic material. Kanami wrote YOLO pre-Band-Maid, although no doubt adapted for the band. BTW, there's a piano excerpt available, actually played by Kanami. FYI, the poster has edited and looped some stuff, but still worth a look: th-cam.com/video/L_WJbKdtONE/w-d-xo.html
Everything after February 2016 is written primarily (with VERY few exceptions) by Band Maid....this was released in November 2016....so yes....by the way....either you just got your teeth done or the lipstick color you chose makes your smile very vibrant.....thank you for more great content
Tiny hat Akane era, and Kanami playing her Addictone guitar. I'm sure many have mentioned, but Kanami composed the chorus melody long before the band, and it might have been Saiki who liked it and wanted it as a full song. When I first started listening to them, this was one of the songs that pulled me in, because it was a more easy listening pop-rock song with a super catchy melodic chorus. Band-Maid's chaos takes a little while to get used to, especially if you're not used to listening to anything like that.
Another fantastic reaction, it's really cool to have you back in time for the early Band-Maid stuff!, you won't regret it NittPicc, believe me lol I think this unpopular opinion it's not so unpopular, but here it goes anyways: as good as YOLO is, the B-sides of that single (Unfair Game and Matchless GUM) are even better and more fierce. Kanami is absolutely unleashed in both songs, especially Unfair Game which features one of her longest and wildest guitar solos Btw fun fact about the YOLO single cover: there's actually two versions of the cover, the regular one with Miku's headress, and a limited edition with Saiki's headress. And both are pretty badass lol
YOLO is definitely in the ballpark with the songs from Just Bring It (that Band-Maid wrote). Kanami's sort of melancholic leads, a little darker sounding but Saiki/Miku melodies have that hopeful nature. I love that riff from Kanami coming out of the calm section of the song - one of her best.
“YOLO” is the second single by Japanese rock band Band-Maid from their album Just Bring It. This song is the band’s first single on the major record label Crown Stones and it’s featured as the theme song of the video game “Valiant Knights”. The single was released in two versions: a standard edition, and a limited edition, which contains the CD and a music sheet for the song "YOLO", enclosed in a sleeve. Both editions of the single feature the b-sides "Unfair Game" and "Matchless Gum", along with an instrumental version of the title track. The artworks were designed with the motif of the headbands that Saiki (Limited Edition) and Miku Kobato (Regular Edition) wear usually on the stage. "YOLO" was debuted at the "Brand New Maid Release Tour Final" show at Tsutaya O-West on October 1, 2016.[6] "Matchless Gum" was debuted at the "Brand New Maid Release Tour Final additional service" at Shimokitazawa Garden on October 23, 2016.[7][8] "Unfair Game" was debuted at the "YOLO Release Out-store mini-service" at Club Vijon on December 7, 2016 - various sources
Welcome Home Princess NittPicc! I hope you are having a wonderful day. You should definitely check out the "B-sides" to this single, I'm sure you would love them. I'm also sure this is not going to be the only comment suggesting them. Please take very good care of yourself and I hope you have an absolutely amazing week.
Yolo was released on the album Just Bring It (JBI) but was also released as an Single ... their first on a major label (Crown Stones) ... with 2 of the best B sides ever. Unfair Game and Matchless Gum could have even been released as singles by themselves. The Yolo single also included an instrumental version of the title song as well.
@@GaryHolloway-810 I am partial to JBI because I think our MAIDs poured their heart and souls into it ... knowing it was the first album containing lots of music written by them. You can hear their excitement throughout the album. World Domination may be more polished but JBI is really the original BAND MAID "unleashed" if you will ;) .
@@PANIC_aka_PinD Well i can't disagree with you, Panic, after all JBI has my fave song. Add "Take Me Higher" & the underrated crowd anthem "Cross" along with a host of other great songs & you have a banger of an album :)
I still maintain that a LARGE part of why they sounded this way at the time was due to constraints from their record label Crown Stones, still trying to make them a sweet pop act. It's like they had no vision for anything else. That's apparent because the dual B-side tracks, which were much more intense, weren't included on the album at all. I'm guessing their contract allowed them to choose B-sides themselves but not necessarily what makes the album, which is generally much more important to a label. Also, their walk on music at the time, known as the original Maid Waltz, is much heavier than ANY song on their setlist. It's full-on metalcore. I've seen videos of them using that self written track as early as Brand New Maid. Maybe even before?
The first album written by the members is "Just Bring It". Before that album, this was the single written by them. Yolo made it to that album. The other two songs only on the single are great as well, often forget about.
The second verse is about: my brain is all messed up (thoughts going round and round) and I can't sleep for some reason, and the morning breaks before I realise it, and is anything gonna change by getting all wound up? It's so evokative. The ominous sounding guitar riff expresses 'dawn' and as Kanami's solo kicks in twilight start poking out of the horizon and eventually sun rises. It makes sense, right?😂
IIRC, those spiked headphones are a real thing, which they gave away as part of a lottery/promotion, and a long time Maidiac scored them and posted pictures.. So they do exist..
Kanami playing her signature Addictone, MISA playing her first 5 string and Akane wearing the tiny hat (RIP tiny hat) and not playing her TAMA kit, this was way early and they had "IT" even back then
I feel that Band Maid took the right path from the very beginning. Their strength at that time was the hard rock they had learned to play from other writers. But once they had established themselves (Alone), the rocket that was Kanami took off and has never looked back. And also I think someone must have asked Kanami "can you tap"? And she said sure, how about this?
YOLO is a great song. For many reasons. But the very best part is SAIKI’s vocal performance. I’m surprised nobody focused on them. Perhaps because they’re 100% Japanese? When you listen to the instrumental (same tracks, minus the vocals) I think you will appreciate how important they are.
YOLO reminds me of when i was in T's Tantan restaurant with Kanami in Marunouchi. That's when the giant Galapagos tortoise craned it's neck over our table & stole her vegetable dumpling. We tried to catch it but it had a motorbike parked outside. Later we laughed at the incident because giant Galapagos tortoises aren't even indigenous to Japan.🤭
On this MV KANAMI use her previous guitar brand ADDICTONE modern series 2H signature model. MINCHO is the only guitarist I know who was 2 brands who make a signature model for her. Someday KANAMI borough a PRS 24 from a guy of BAND MAID crew. She felt in love with PRS at the disappointed of ADDICTONE. this end of the year KANAMI had a new signature model with PAUL REED SMITH GUITAR.a PRS 24-08. She's the 1st japonese artist who had this honor by PRS. Mincho is around 30 years old and had in her career 2 brands who have created a signature model for her. Mincho is unique.
"Just bring it " is a masterpiece in my opinion, every song on that album is top tier. I love all their work but JBI is just a cut above everything else they have done.
Milady, you should really, really, really check out the live version of this from their Studio Coast performance. Paying particular attention to the left channel and how Miku's playing had gotten SOOOooo much better. And also how Kanami's and Miku's playing were mirrored. That is something Kanami does, where they play mirrored parts. You can really hear it in Hate? during the intro into the solo from the duel. at 8.50 you hear Kanami's pick scrape down the fretboard, live, it's Miku that goes down, while Kanami does a pick scrape going up the fretboard. And Kanami's longest solo that hits HARD, is still "Unfair Game" There is no live video with good sound, although I have sent my son as many live fan cams of UG, and the studio version and asked him to do a mega edit, but with his job, it will still be a bit. And "Older Maid"? Nahhh, just "Progressive Maid".
Something it took me forever to notice until I listened to the instrumental version is the extra bar between the pre-choruses and choruses. Just because.

Kuruppo!
we see your joy and we know that feeling soo well
This is one of my favourite songs full stop especially the solo. Full on finger tapping with the little slip back to the high fret to finish it off. Which she also does on the guitar battle on Hate?. The piano version is beautiful 😍 also.
カッコいいですよね⁈ワタシも大好きです、みんちょのギタープレイ!
You and I both know how cool she is ! I love Mincho's playing guitar !
Definitely in my top 5 Band-Maid songs (which currently consists of 20+ songs)
YOLO is a phenomenal song! If you listen more than once it will become your favorite!! Regarding Kanami, it’s not the fact that she makes it look easy, her genius is in her compositions! You being a musician know that each part in a composition takes time to find what fits! I’m impressed for the fact that she can remember every note live!! I have a license plate named after her
There's also a Band Maiko reworking of this, if you want to add to your experience.
@@Kissthetoad321 Now she's added her sweep picking too :)
I recommend watching "Blooming" tapping.
@@佐々木幸司-c7x I saw it too but after these 2 songs. Pure gold. Thank you Koji-san.
I've gotten flak over the years for saying Kanami is one of the best tappers in the world and I stand by that , and always will.
This is one of my favorites because of the guitar riff. Dun dun dun dun Waka Waka. It's just brilliant.
Fozzy Bear would be proud
Dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun. Waka, Waka....great writing. 😂
@@neilwoodley530日本のオノマトペのようだ。
It is like a Japanese onomatopoeia.
I have seen live clips of this song and they had that same glitchy sounding intro on a backing track.
I would agree that Misa is picking the shiz-nit out of that bass, but that is not really anything new.
That look on your face when Kanami did the tapping was priceless.
I’m definitely in the “I love this song, it’s underrated!” category 😊
Great song, albeit admittedly not one of my favourite Band-Maid offerings. BUT there's something truly magical about that extended transition from the middle section to the final, half-time chorus. It just kind of glides and shapeshifts and builds in intensity. It's wonderful, and a real glimpse of the kind of magic that lay ahead.
I must echo the suggestions by others to look at the B-sides from this single. Especially 'Matchless Gum'.
RIP Green Addictone. 😞 (and tiny hato)
I would expect her to resurrect the old green PRS ,or Addictone during retrospective okyujis. Band Maid continually morphs into different forms of greatness but will never forget where they came from .
I can see green.😃
@@GaryHolloway-810 Hahaha I get that joke! 🙂
@@frankandre4385 Frankly, Frank.. (tee-hee), I think there was some sort of bad blood between Addictone and the old management. They were saying they 'forced' Kanami to use PRS. Akane used to play Sonar drums, later switched to Tama. If she's wearing a tiny hat, that's an old video. But I love their music...how they evolved. How they don't trap themselves in a single genre.
茜は元々Tama使用ではなかったんですね😮
I love YOLO in all versions, the one we just heard, the piano version (with Kanami playing), and the Band-Maiko version. Sounds like a special video???😂 Good to see you back, happy, laughing, and playing Band-Maid (and other music).
The live acoustic version
of YOLO is my favorite,,

Band-maid is the only band where i can honestly say "oops all bangers". Yolo used to be the earworm i couldn't and never wanted to get rid of😅
Arigato NittPicc ojosama!
Another fantastic reaction, it's really cool to have you back in time for the early Band-Maid stuff!, you won't regret it NittPicc, believe me lol
I think this unpopular opinion it's not so unpopular, but here it goes anyways: as good as YOLO is, the B-sides of that single (Unfair Game and Matchless GUM) are even better and more fierce. Kanami is absolutely unleashed in both songs, especially Unfair Game which features one of her longest and wildest guitar solos
Btw fun fact about the YOLO single cover: there's actually two versions of the cover, the regular one with Miku's headress, and a limited edition with Saiki's headress. And both are pretty badass lol
This song also has a Band-Maiko version with traditional Japanese instruments.
"YOLO" was debuted at the "Brand New Maid Release Tour Final" show at Tsutaya O-West on October 1, 2016.[6] "Matchless Gum" was debuted at the "Brand New Maid Release Tour Final additional service" at Shimokitazawa Garden on October 23, 2016.[7][8] "Unfair Game" was debuted at the "YOLO Release Out-store mini-service" at Club Vijon on December 7, 2016 - various sources
this song and dice and onset were the three songs that maid me a Band Made fan.
Akane is in the driver's seat on this one.
@@markhayes9004 Hiya Mark, i've been away for most of the weekend & i've just seen your email.🙂👍
@@PANIC_aka_PinD My second fave album just behind "World Domination" :)
Thank You NittPicc, an often overlooked Band-Maid song but a perennial top 15 BM song for me.
❤️💛💚💙💜
The first album written by the members is "Just Bring It". Before that album, this was the single written by them. Yolo made it to that album. The other two songs only on the single are great as well, often forget about.
Happy Holidays NP! And happy vibe all around with Band-Maid and a NP breakdown. Keep up the holiday spirits with Band-Maid and NP! PO!🕊 🤘😆🤘
The second verse is about:
my brain is all messed up (thoughts going round and round) and I can't sleep for some reason, and the morning breaks before I realise it, and is anything gonna change by getting all wound up?
It's so evokative. The ominous sounding guitar riff expresses 'dawn' and as Kanami's solo kicks in twilight start poking out of the horizon and eventually sun rises.
It makes sense, right?😂
Another great react!!!!! Waiting for you to finish the Ohrenje documentaries!!!!! Thank you for what you do!!!!!
IIRC, those spiked headphones are a real thing, which they gave away as part of a lottery/promotion, and a long time Maidiac scored them and posted pictures.. So they do exist..
Kanami playing her signature Addictone, MISA playing her first 5 string and Akane wearing the tiny hat (RIP tiny hat) and not playing her TAMA kit, this was way early and they had "IT" even back then
5:07 Autobots, roll out!
I'm here for this! Good morning! 🙏🕊&❤
Band Maiko did a great cover of this song ;)
YOLO reminds me of when i was in T's Tantan restaurant with Kanami in Marunouchi. That's when the giant Galapagos tortoise craned it's neck over our table & stole her vegetable dumpling. We tried to catch it but it had a motorbike parked outside. Later we laughed at the incident because giant Galapagos tortoises aren't even indigenous to Japan.🤭
Something in the English water today :p .

Love Akane's drums in this song .
Love this track.
Skull Candy Evo Crusher /Spiked Maid Edtion/ that would be cool.Hear and feel Misa in full Glory.I can but Dream.
Once again, they got this so down pat that Kanami is out here completing sidequests on her guitar.
STILL one of my favs...
"Just bring it " is a masterpiece in my opinion, every song on that album is top tier. I love all their work but JBI is just a cut above everything else they have done.
The BAND MAIKO version of this, "YOLOSIOSU". is pretty neat too.
💜💛❤💙💚
Now you have to do Kanami's piano version of this.
This is a great song and reaction as usual
Happy new month! I recommended you to Ohrenje for an interview.

Kanami composed "YOLO" before Band-Maid when she was a singer-songwriter, but arranged it to fit the style of the band. Miku wrote the lyrics afaik.
