There's an extra step I missed in the transformation. After getting him into cannon mode, you can fold up the sides of the chest to sit more flush against the barrel.
Straxus did live on for a short time in the Marvel UK comic as a head in a bubble. Eventually he tried to take over Megatron's body without much success.
I like this new version of Straxus. Buuut by the time I had him in hand, all the exchange rates and shipping costs would gouge me for around 80-90 dollars. Which is a big ask for what is fundamentally a Voyager fig at the leader price point. He'd need to go on sale for like half off for me to go in and replace the dodgy old deluxe Darmount(straxus) that cost me like 15 bucks back in the day. Oh well
One of the standout figures of the year! Superb robot mode and a great cannon mode and both modes are extremely accurate to his comic appearances. Such a great character in Marvel US and UK as well. Finally we got another Straxus figure.
i got mine the other day and love it! didnt think i was going to like the comic paint but i think it looks cool. you can manipulate his struts in robot mode to look like they are part of his forearms. also his pecks fold into the chest barrel in cannon mode. it took me a minute to figure that one out lol saw the hinge pins and was like "is that a hinge?" shore enough it is. great review!!!
I started collecting the Marvel G1 comic not long after I first got into the new Skybound run, and the Straxus issues were the first ones I ended up getting. Really easy to see why he's such a fan favorite!
I have the comic shockwave and I love the comic detail, the shading makes him look really cool all the time, and the dots highlight detail depending on the angle you're looking from. And neither are obvious, they're just there and look good
I got him and the Flame/Emirate Xaaron set in the mail this past week. All three are great versions of the comic characters. Makes me want more Comics Editions and more obscure Transformers.
The arm/shoulder assemblies that fold down on all the hinges will clip into the sides of the lower “ribs” of his torso panel. I’ve seen a few reviewers who’ve missed this on Straxus and/or Galvatron.
I got the comic Shockwave, mainly as it came with the little mount display with Optimus head, but the colours were actually fairly striking on the figure itself which was a bonus and that will always be the comic I remember most fondly. Neither the cartoon nor movie were particularly kind to Shockwave which made the comic stand out all the more for what it is. Thought about Straxus, kind of want to get him now although I now know why I never knew much about him if he was only in two issues, not much interest on that account anyway. Have Galvatron and it's a great figure but I've not seen a more awkward transformation yet. Mostly just keep him on my Starscream throne which he indeed fits and suits far better. Not sure what I'd do with Straxus though.
We need more Straxus in TF media. He's got a great design and plenty of potential to be a big deal in a new comic or tv series. I'm pretty sure he was the first character I was introduced to that only existed in the comic book that wasn't drawn like he was made out of a tissue box and some toilet paper rolls. Aside from the wonky crap hanging off his arms I think he's an awesome representation that you just have to have if your a fan of the original comic series. The head sculpt and other details look really good. Great review, Patriot.
I thought Straxus was a G1 mail away Decepticon figure that transformed into a radio just like Soundwave & Blaster except that Straxus' radio mode actually plays music & required real batteries to make it work. 📻🎶
Those little things on his legs tha end up in the back of the alt mode combine and peg together to form double slope kind of structure, just like on Galvatron. Also sides of the chest plates bend to form better around the curved part of the gun.
Can’t wait for mine so I’m here to drool over yours as I’m waiting for Hasbro to get their shite together! 😂😂 Great review as always, brother! Can’t wait for this awesomeness! 🤩💯
Beating a dead horse here, but really tired of them not sealing figures like this one that, I would assume, are intended for collectors who might want to keep it sealed in the box… which is kinda hard to do when the box was never sealed in the first place Hasbro. Anyway, great video and figure
Patriot prime! Or anyone else who knows... What year in marvel comics did Straxus first appear? Because im trying to figure out.... Did the idea from Galvatron's alt mode come from Straxus alt mode? Or vice versa?!?!
@@PatriotPrimeReviewswow! Thanks for answering. But that alt mode is very similar. VERY similar, tho if i remember correctly Straxus was a flying gun ship murderous thug thing instead of a land based cannon.
Why don’t you compare these to the “newer” Megatron’s & Primes? Comparing modern figures to an original G1 makes no sense absolutely whatsoever. Now using the “modern” like Earthrise makes sense. Kind of annoying.
Today marks my 7th year on TH-cam. In those 7 years, I've uploaded over 1,400 videos, have over 4 million views, and over 19,000 subscribers. I've compared a G1 Prime to Autobots and a G1 Megatron to Decepticons since the beginning of my Channel. It's kinda my thing. I won't be stopping anytime soon because you found the 2 seconds G1 Megatron was on screen "annoying." Thanks for watching.
Awesome review, brother! I had almost forgotten about this guy being released this year until your video popped up in my feed...!!! I gotta say, he looks fantastic, and just like he did in those comics, which I still have in my collection... And in those same comics we were also introduced to Blaster's little buddy "Scrounge", who (SPOILER ALERT!!!) Lord Straxus killed, and Blaster ended up avenging Scrounge by killing Straxus... Thankfully, we also got a Scrounge figure in the CW series, as a part of the Hasbro Technobots/Computron boxed set, who was a remold of the legend scale Cosmos in yellow... I still have the older version of Straxus that we got way back, which was a retool/repaint of Pretender Skullgrin, but named "Darkmount" (which was actually the name of his base), and you're not wrong about it not being a great figure... it really wasn't, and in fact, it was so uninteresting to me, that I initially passed on even the Skullgrin version, but then went back and was able to find one still on the shelf, but the newer Skullgrin crushes that figure out of the park... I did buy the Darkmount version before the Skullgrin, because I figured that might never be updated and could potentially be the only way to ever have him in my collection... thankfully, we have THIS version, which appears to be SOOOO much more satisfying as a physical representation of the comic character than that sad little deluxe with the wrong name, lol 😅... That said, I may still keep the previous version, and use him as another Decepticon warrior since his name isn't Straxus anyway 😉... I need to get the comic Shockwave boxed set and this one, for sure, but probably passing on the Grimlock set since I have the SS86 version and can't justify spending that much just to get extra weapons that SHOULD have been included with the proper figures to begin with...🤨 Anyway, I enjoyed the video and the comic book memories, brother! As always, looking forward to the next video!
Man, Scrounge's death in the Smelting Pool was quite a shocker for my young mind, not to mention how he had his arm ripped off by Straxus before he was tossed in. This figure surprised me way more than I thought he would for a retool. I almost didn't get him, thankfully I did, because the next day after I ordered him....he sold out.
There's an extra step I missed in the transformation.
After getting him into cannon mode, you can fold up the sides of the chest to sit more flush against the barrel.
I found that you can swing those "cannon struts" down under his forearms. There they look like high-tech laser arm cannons.
This was one of my few and favorite TF comics as a kid and it was great to finally get a comic inspired version of Straxus.
Straxus did live on for a short time in the Marvel UK comic as a head in a bubble. Eventually he tried to take over Megatron's body without much success.
Such a cool story! A clone of Megatron's body!
One of the greatest and longest-running Marvel UK storylines!
I wish IDW would've continued their reprints of the UK series, they stopped right before that story began.
I always wondered if Animated mined that storyline for inspiration
I dig him. Looks like Apocalypse!
I got him in the mail yesterday and I immediately grabbed Blaster to recreate the cover art.
Which Blaster? Curious because most Blasters can't match how giant he was in the comics.
I compared him to Kingdom Blaster
@@VCXZ883 just like PatriotPrime did, the Kingdom/SS86 Blaster works just fine.
Got this guy over the weekend and really enjoy this figure! Thanks for the review, HOOAH!
Nice!!

Thanks. This guy hit all those Marvel G1 soft spots.
My second favorite Decepticon leader from the Marvel Comics! Mine just came in as well and I'm loving it. Thanks for the review!
Glad you enjoyed it.
I wasn't going to get this but inly because I had no connection to the g1 comics. But I'm so glad I did. In person the colors are SO GOOD
I was so mad as a kid when I found out there wasn't a figure of him.
I like him more now that I’ve seen him.
The only comic 40th anniversary one I got was Grimlock and I’m glad I did.

I got my Straxas on September 21, and i love this toy

Got mine few days ago, really huge difference compared to the old deluxe. Also his joints are the best out of this mold.
Also medium Jetfire blast effect (cone one) works great with this canon).

I've just got this bad boy! My review goes live tomorrow!
I see your Toyhax code is punkin' that spice.😆
Punk it baby!
Not a bad figure. I might get this one at some point. On a side note, I didn’t have to fix the shoulders on my galvatron.
Another awesome review, i want to pick this one up now. Keep rocking that new country theme song, it fits you perfectly 😎👍🏼
Thanks, I worked hard on that.
And it shows😎👍🏼

I believe that Straxus actually survived his fight with Blaster as a severed disembodied head floating in a tank ala'Futurama.
Yep, those stories were in the UK series.
I'll think abou it!
That figure absolutely needs the decal treatment.
i might get Him, Flame and Xaaron

Agreed, this one should've been like the Necca figures.
Patriot prime!

That issue came out in 1986 before the movie.
But they could've been working on the movie.

I wished they didn’t use the galvatron mode
Hasbro should have had Scrounge come with him….
With Arm Ripping Action.
