I started and used Phentermine and used it for three months on two separate occasions. I learned a sustainable ketogenic diet that taught me healthy eating habits. I learned and practice a exercise program consisting of cardio and weight training. I started my weight loss journey at 280 lbs and got down to 200 lbs. Phentermine gave me the boost I needed to master these habits. I went to my doctor monthly to check my status. Then when the Phentermine went away, I had the knowledge and GOOD habits to practices these skills I had learned and my life is balanced and happy. Don’t just take the pill and hope it falls off. Do the freaking work and learn the habits necessary to succeed!

I did Phentermine for two 3 month periods in the last two years. I’ve gone from 280 lbs down to my current weight of 207 lbs. my goal weight is 199 lbs. I did this while following a Keto Diet. My cholesterol is way down and I’m off my blood pressure meds finally. I have added normal physical fitness routines that include, weight lifting, elliptical, stair master, swimming, bicycling and walking. I track my food religiously on Carb Manager and keep carbs at 20 or less a day. I am fat adapted and practice intermittent fasting often. I’m 59 and in the best shape of my life. I did experience some insomnia and dry mouth side effects. Don’t abuse Phentermine and if only 1- 2% succeed, than I guess I’m one of the lucky ones. I’d like to think it’s because I worked my ass off! You can do this!

Thank you!!! Today is day one and I will take your wisdom and experience on my journey with me! I am 290lbs but I am interested in losing inches. So hopefully with Phentermine cardio, weight training, and balanced eating, I can develop a healthy lifestyle! I am in this for wellness! I want to be here to get my son with Autism to adulthood and for my mental health! Thanks, Gary!

You are one of the 1-2% that succeed. PLUS the other 48% that succeed. So am I and my story is almost identical to yours. Phentermine and learning how to eat from a nutritionist was all i needed to go from 256 to 205 and keep that weight for 3 years. I'm 57. This dr guy is full of it.

If you have will power and just need a boost, phentermine is AMAZING for you.
However, unfortunately many people use it as a crutch without a lifestyle change!
I’ve been working really hard the past 6 months after gaining 35lb during the pandemic due to lack of movement (closed gyms) and being a little over my calorie intake (I did the math, it was like 100 cal over my daily intake)
In the past 6 months I have been able to lose 15lb!
BUT haven’t been able lose anymore 😢
So my doctor prescribed me this medicine!
I am sure I’ll be able to maintain my weight as soon I lose the weight I gained!

It's easy for someone who isn't overweight to make a video like this. Obviously we know this isn't a medication you take forever. I'm glad there are people in the comments section that can do a keto diet and have success without health complications but what works for one person doesn't always work for another. Some people need the kick start. Exercise and diet are a huge part of changing your lifestyle but it is not always easy for everyone, if it was, no one would have issues.

In my early 20s I lost 80lbs after being overweight my whole life!!
      Went from 285lb to 205lb
Met a boyfriend and regained 10lb the year we were together.
Then BOOM the pandemic hit and we broke up 😢 in those 4 years of the pandemic I gained an extra 20lb (like half a pound a year) So in total I gained 35lbs.
      End weight of 235lbs…
The past 6 months I’ve gone back to the gym and managed to lose 18lb 🎉 currently at 217 ✨
However, I’ve been yo-yo-ing with my calories so I spoke with my doctor and she prescribed me phentermine.
It’s not a crutch, just a boost to prep for a proper calorie deficit and workout regime.
My first goal it to go back to 205lbs and eventually 160lb.

I took it for 12 months and I felt really good and confident about my body and was able to go out in public with no Body Image Dysmorphia issues.I had no appetite whatsoever for the 12 months I was on it but it helped me start a healthy eating routine because I knew I had to eat (that was the good thing about it). It gave me a whole of energy that I haven't had in decades which helped me do a lot of yard work for a month and a half eight hours a day. Doing this yard work in the first seven weeks brought me down from 220 pounds to 150 and took me from a 38-inch waist to a 29-inch waist all in six or seven weeks (I'm a short 5'5 male so according to the national health association 150 pounds puts me at a healthy weight for my body frame). However, in my all-or-nothing mentality, I figured I would get to 140 which was still a healthy weight according to NHA but it got scary because I noticeably lost a lot of muscle mass and looked like a flat piece of wood lol. I used to be able to carry two 80-pound bags of concrete but when I got down to 140 pounds I would struggle to pick up one bag of 6o pound concrete. It hurt when I walked because I felt like my bones were not getting calcium and with every step I took it felt like my chins were going to break in half. Eventually, with my newfound healthy eating routine, I went up to 155 pounds and got most of my strength and muscle back but after 4 years I gained most of that weight back from depression and more body image issues with I was 185 pounds for about a year )which I did feel healthier actually). However, with my depression and body image issues my doctor put me on Prozac which made me gain 45 ponds and now I've been 230 pounds for the past year with no weight loss what so ever even though I had stopped taking the Prozac over six months ago. I want to go back on the Phentermine but the doctors said there's no chance of that because I have body image issues.

  • @rokzane
    @rokzane ปีที่แล้ว +7

Most of these issues can be avoided by eating regularly and maintaining adequate protein consumption. The most common mistake people make is just not eating enough calories and not eating adequate protein. You want to have a meal plan with a calorie count appropriate to your activity level and age, and my doctor advised ne to eat every 4hrs with a protein intake of at least 25g of protein with each meal. I had great reaults with phentermine on a lower 15mg dose, and I stayed on it for about 5 months as I was working with a grief therapist and a dietician. It also helped my seasonal depression tremendously, way better than any SSI drug I have tried. My doctor doesn't have any reservations about me using it Nov-March, the hardest months for me to get through.
Also, the only side effects I experience is mild constipation (I just make sure I eat more fiber) and very mild insomnia that usually goes away within a couple weeks, and a melatonin supplement usually eases the insomnia.

You have to eat. Make yourself eat! Set timer and reminders to eat. Eat healthy food. If you are nøt eating due to the effects of the pills. You will gain it back. It’s okay if you only lose 10lbs in 4-6 weeks on phentermine. Remember you want a healthy weight lose that is stainable. Also remember to exercise and incorporate weight training. 30lbs in a month is unhealthy. Stay hydrated please.

You are sooo right! have been taking phentermine off and on for many years, I know it is a quick fix, but Im in a cycle where I have to eat fewer calories to maintain, just recently got off of it again and am struggling around 5-10 lbs heavier of before I started. I lost lean muscle, everything you say is true! I am back to working out every day to build back muscles and eating more vegetables and sometimes I am so desperate to see the scale go down I think of taking it again, but I dont cause I know I will just gain it back and then some! and I have done alot of fasting too that I think I am done with because I think that hurts me too. Metabolic damage? If you weigh 70kg and your BMR is 2,000kcal, then if you lose 5kg your BMR is NATURALLY going to drop by however many calories just because now you have less cells to fuel and less body weight to haul around requiring less calories to fuel this. Calling it "damage" as if it somehow hurts your body or the energy converting mechanisms of the body feels rather misleading.

I’m 24 , I used it when I was 23 at 250lbs and lost around 55lbs. I remember people telling me I needed to make sure to have a good diet don’t just skip meals & work out! I was on keto and made sure to eat something every meal but I wasn’t binge eating like I use too & worked out Monday-Friday cardio and strength training. I didn’t feel any side effects but I believe I was doing it healthy. I kept it off maybe would gain 5lbs and then loose it and gain it that’s the most but Definitely taught me self control. I got back on it after a year cause I seen good results I’m 24 now this time is the time I noticed the side effects. Mind you I’m. No longer working out & working 2 jobs. I would work 12 hours constantly on the move so after work I would be exhausted and ready for bed. I usually would get to bed around 10 but would wake up 2 /3 hours later not able to go back to sleep so around 1 or 2 am. I would need to be up by 4:30 leave at 5 drive an hour to work. when I would wake up I would feel my heart racing and it would feel as if I’m anxious or nervous about something. I would take the next pill for the next day. I never felt tired it gave me the energy to last the day but I new mentally and deep down my body was being over worked . I wouldn’t eat every meal. Mainly lunch maybe a small dinner. I was feeling dizzy or clammy and my eyes would get blurry. I would never feel the anxiety until the end of the day when I was calm relaxing. I stopped after the 4th day of taking it. I am not gonna take them until I do it the right way. If you do take this pill please make sure you’re not harming your body with no sleep or food!

I lost a lot of weight on it, and gained some back, but its the best weight loss drug out there imo... Follow the directions and make sure you are strong enough to be able to take it. Do your research and don't stray from your path... Metabolic damage is not permanent... In my case anyway.

I love this drug! I took it for a year straight with no ill side effects or damage to my metabolism. I did gain weight back, but it was over 18 months, and not all of it. I also lost fat due to the diet I was placed on: very low carb, high fat and protein. My inflammatory markers went to 0, my CAC is a zero (in spite of having elevated cholesterol) and my A1C dropped to normal range. I can't say a bad thing about this drug. However, like ALL weight loss drugs, it's a lifetime habit. Once you quit the drug (ANY weight loss drug), the weight will gradually return because you stopped treating the thing that was clearly an issue. (Why does this shock people?) As for only 1-2% of people keeping the weigh lost off, any one with experience with major diet companies knows that weight loss (period) is a 98% fail over the 5-10 year following time frame. And yes, lean mass loss occurs with ALL the major weight loss companies.....some more than others, regardless of what you do. Even weight loss surgery has a 30% fail rate over 5-10 years.
Phentermine is a very safe drug, but it will affect some people badly....just like Tylenol does. No drug is risk free, which again, amazes me that people think they can take it without possibly paying a price. This seems to me to be a lack of critical thinking abilities combined with certain delusions about magic potion cures...it's very sad to see people like this.

It was a wonderful experience and changed my belief system that it's possible to lose weight with a good diet and some exercise. I think what you failed ot acknowledge is Phentermine can be a very useful crutch to get rid of food cravings long enough to switch from an unhealthy diet to a healthy / keto diet in which you're still getting calories but the good calories that give you nutrition without spiking insulin. During that adjustment period you are also shifting your microbiome.

At the end of the day, it has a lot to do with folks poor diet and eating habits. I personally know people who have taken diet pills, lost weight just by eating healthy/exercising, or liposuction surgery. Sure they lost the weight, but once they reached their weight goal, they stared gaining the weight back because they started to re incorporate fast/processed foods, desserts, sodas you name it. From there they just went downhill. Don’t take this medication to just loose the weight and then think you can start eating whatever you want.

The logic employed through this video seems exceptionally questionable:
    1. For a person with obesity, all weight loss is "temporary." Obesity is a chronic condition that needs to be managed.
    2. The "metabolic damage" described occurs whenever one restricts calories. This is why, even on phentermine, you do not want the calories restriction to be too great.
    3. The "muscle mass loss" issue describes all calorie restriction diets. Generally, you need protein and strength training to combat this.
    4. On side effects, the proper analysis is whether the risk of side effects is outweighed by the risk of the obesity related conditions that can be improved with weight loss (high cholesterol, high BP, diabetes, etc.). For me, the observable side effects have been zero.
This video comes accross as misinformation to me

My girlfriend started using it and I cannot convince her to stop or think of stopping with it now. She hid that from me. All she ever told me was that she needed a medication for her health and that she was so frustrated that no pharmacy had it in stock. She never mentioned what it was until it slipped out of her mouth and I obviously looked it up and am so worried about her. I love her how she is, and see nothing wrong with her. She isn't obese nor has abnormal weight. I think it's normal to have a few kilograms more and totally okay as one ages, but she is obsessed with her weight and I do understand that it is a really hard topic for her but I still feel so helpless. No matter what I say she just gets angry and upset at me so I even fear talking about that medication to her. I don't know what to do but it breaks my heart not being able to help in any way

I’m 59, female, and starting second month of phentermine. I’ve dropped 19 lbs in 4 weeks. It has helped with appetite but I’m noticing it doesn’t last after 5, 6 hours like it did. I asked the clinic how long I can stay on it and was told, “You can stay on it as long as you need. You can stop it when you hit your target weight…or not. It’s up to you.” Okay, I have a medical background so I KNOW what I was told isn’t right. They leave it up to the PATIENT! So, I have made an appointment to see the ‘doctor’ (It’s actually a NP) after this second month.
I also asked if it needs increased (to see what the MA tells me) and she said yes, I can still go up in dose! NOT ONE TIME HAVE I BEEN TOLD ABOUT ADDICTION to it, that I might have withdrawal when I decide to stop it, or anything. Honestly, I think the place I’m going to is in it for the money only……

I went off Phentermine ... and within a week, my hunger was unbearable ... I became a bottomless pit.
With Phentermine, I could not eat a whole bowl of anything.
Off Phentermine, I could eat two bowls and still want more.

I've lost a total of 115lbs but after a year post op combined with suddenly being stuck at home and more sedentary than before I gained back 20lbs. I just went back on it for the last 2 months to help me lose that weight and re-shrink my stomach post op. which it has done for sure. I have an issue now with forgetting to eat and not getting in enough calories so now that I've lost that 20lbs and am back to my "low" weight my doctor wants to try something else. I only ever had issues with excessive caffeine but otherwise my blood pressure and stuff has all been fine.

When it comes to genetics we’re not all created equally, some people will struggle more than others to reach their goals based on their genetics, while some people will have completely different goals altogether (i.e. the skinny guy who has to force-feed himself to gain weight/muscle), not everyone’s goal is weight loss. Having said that, there are almost zero side effects to proper diet & exercise. It takes longer, requires more effort & consistency, but the results are far more aesthetically pleasing & indirectly help develop healthy habits - even if the short-term goal is vanity. Any medication (& nearly all weight loss medications do this..) prescribed for weight loss is going to target & burn lean muscle tissue… some people refer to this body type as “skinny fat”. So if your objective is to look better, there really is no substitute for a calorie-restricted diet combined with adequate resistance/cardio exercise & rest/recovery. It may not have the instantly gratifying results that we’d all like to have, but just like anything else, anything worth having takes time & effort.

I was NOT overweight when it was prescribed this. I’ve had HORRIBLE issues since. My metabolism totally crashed, I actually gained a TON of weight after. I went from being a normal 125-130, to ballooning to 180. I have had issues maintaining weight since.

If you weren't overweight, why were you prescribed the medication? That doesn't make a lot of sense to me. As for the metabolism crashing, what tests has your doctor ordered? A1C, fasting insulin, full panel thyroid..... I hope you're seeing a different doctor than the one who prescribed phentermine. I also wish you well and hope you recover.
Even safe drugs can affect some people badly. Nothing works for everyone, but I am puzzled that a doctor prescribed a weight loss drug to a patient who failed to meet the indications for it. God speed your recovery.

I used this for a year in 2018 along with daily exercise for about 60-90mins. I did lose 70lbs total. But I had constipation, insomnia really bad. Despite working out, muscle would not develop, just burning fat and muscle. My mouth was so dry I could drink double my weight and still be thirsty. I would get agitated very easily and snap on people. I have Hashimoto's, so even with healthy diet and exercise I cannot lose weight. I ended up with hip impingement problems, apparently something I may have been born with, and had to stop exercising. I couldn't stand the anxiety Phentermine would give me and insomnia anymore, so I quit taking it. I really feel this medicine did more harm than good, because I gained back all 70lbs, and feel it ruined my adrenal glands. Plus it was temporary. The weight loss was so nice, but it was even more disappointing to gain back. I even take T3 and T4 medication, low dose Naltrexone, and no weight loss. Please consider safer options

I've used Phentermine several times. The first time it seemed to work great. I lost 40lbs. And maintained my goal weight for about two years. Then stress and old habits caused me to gain again, however I noticed my Max weight was no longer 180 it had increased. I lost about 20lbs the second time but then I started having PVCs and tachycardia. It was very scary and uncomfortable. I had to deal with the heart palpitations and yes I did suffer from the metabolic damage. It's tempting to use it bc it seemed to work so well but it seems to have caused a lot of health problems and now my weight is so out of control. One thing I would say for the lean muscle bit. This happens most of the time that you go on a cut, reduce calorirs lower than maintainence. Lean muscle loss is expected whether or not you use phentermine. Its more just the degree of decreased calories. Also, if you perform resistance training as you cut weight, you are less likely to lose the lean mass and thus keep up your metabolism from muscle gains.
Also, is it possible to use a weight loss drug chronically? Like a blood pressure med, maybe at a low dose to maintain gains? There is also literature that suggests appetite has genetic inheritance, so a drug like this could counteract that and potentially make an overweight person have "healthier" appetite signals. Key from the set point theory

    • @alvodin6197
      @alvodin6197 ปีที่แล้ว

Good points on the first part. Secondly, ethical doctors know that this medication is not supposed to be used long term. That appetite is genetic, that doesn't explain how people who weren't fat become very fat after chronic stress or a major stressful event. The American obesity epidemic just cannot be explained by genetics, because our genetics haven't changed the last 100 years. It's often easier to say that people are having the problems they are having due to genetics, rather than early childhood, which is has a very high correlation with over eating later in life, same with a starving mother or other types of chronic stress.

It was great at first. With in a few months I gained the weight back. I had lost muscle mass, so I was fatter and wore a bigger size at 170 than I was before. I have yo-yo dieted ever since. About 5 years ago I found out I have Hashimoto’s. I read that diet, stress, and genetics causes the disease. I’ve always wondered if the phentermine what is the stress factor that pulled the trigger on my disease because it most certainly caused my body stress...

I was on this medication for two weeks. Originally I did experience side effects such as palpitations, nausea, headache, some dizziness, insomnia. After a week, the more concerning side effects were irritation, agitation, and anxiety. I was aware that I may be more anxious taking the medication because it increases everything. But the constant ag and irritation was becoming extremely bad. I’m very intuitive with my thoughts and emotions typically and try to understand why I feel a certain way. I was constantly feeling extremely irritated and I couldn’t put any realistic specific reasons why I should be feeling like that One night after I got off of work, I ended up having a mental breakdown then I was completely irritated with myself that I was even reacting that way. I’m feeling this way, but I couldn’t correlate how to stop the emotion. I started losing lack of concentration with my work And anxiety. I can’t do it anymore because of these side effects are extremely disruptive in my daily life.

It has nasty side effects after about three months. You can lose weight with it. After three months, it seemed to be ineffective. I lost 25 pounds and did not gain it back. I could not lose weight regardless of diet prior to using it.
Don’t eat sugar and you won’t be hungry. I took 15 mg. It’s good for stamina to get through a long day. It causes constipation and heart problems.
I don’t eat beef or pork, few grains, little to no sugar or sweets.

Seems like these side effects can be avoided by increaisng protein consumption, and weigh lifting

These side effects were just for 2 weeks for me. It was gone after that . Also I started out at a very low dose then gradually went up. I never got to 37mg. But I’m now 138ibs from 170. Also I should mention that I work out regularly but definitely eating less depending on my exercise load.

    Dr. Child's,
I have tried Phentermine several times to lose weight.
Phentermine does ABSOLUTELY nothing for me. Phentermine does not give me energy nor decrease appetite.
Q: Why do I not have any luck with Phentermine?
I am going to try Adipex (brand name) next time.
Phentermine is an absolute waste for me . I have tried several times, but absolutely nothing.
    Thank you very much.

I am taking it now. I have been doing well but that is because I am on a healthy food plan, I took it before and ate cake and donuts and wondered why the damn pill wasn't working. The pill works but it just gives you a boost, you have to do the climbing yourself, if that makes any sense at all.

but if you lose the weight from taking phentermine and after you get off the medicine you continue a healthy diet and workout routine will you gain it back?

  • @karlaf.64
    @karlaf.64 ปีที่แล้ว

I think the biggest issue with regaining the weight is the fact that you don’t get hungry so you are in a severe calorie deficit which leads to extreme weight loss, but the problem is that once you are off of it and your normal hunger levels come back, you start eating your normal 2,500+ calorie diet when you were probably barely eating 1200 cal before.
My dr told me to be very careful with what I’m eating and to make sure I reach my alloted daily calories of 1,600-1,800 cal. Per day and to make sure I maintain that same calorie consumption to make sure I am able to maintain the weight loss. For me personally, I know that I was severely over eating and overindulging so as long as I’m mindful of my calories during and after, I should be good to go

I definitely know that phentermine has a payback when you stop taking it. Not only do you gain the weight back on again, but you gain even more weight.

That’s with every diet tbh, every time you lose and gain your weight goes higher and higher with regain, many of the aftermaths people seem to be mentioning happen due to diets/weight loss and regain in general
Edit: I have not taken this pill but have lost and regain throughout my life and suffered all kinds of symptoms from hair loss to higher and higher weights with every regain, some people are probably experiencing these things for the first time they lose weight coincidentally on the pill and are blaming the pill even though they would have occurred if they lost it without any aides (such as myself)

Didn’t work for me. The first 2 days I felt great and was convinced this was ‘it’. But the great effects wore off. It made me so tired, I could nap in the day and felt so drained. I’d either sleep fine and still feel tired or I would be up from 2am in the morning. When I worked out I felt good and could workout harder but that’s about it. It didn’t help my appetite heaps, I didn’t get hunger pangs but my body still told me to eat but I could eat less than usual but that to me isn’t worth it. I lost weight the first week which I know was the drugs work but once you don’t take it for a day or two it piles back on which shows it was just water weight. My muscles aches a little which tells me possibly the weightloss came from lean body mass which is so not worth it. You lose water weight (which is literally water so who cares) and your lean muscle which reduces your metabolism and calorie burn. So when you go off it and go back to old ways (which most do if they haven’t lost weight correctly and dealt with their mind and habits) you gain fat quicker because you have less muscle=lower metabolism and then have to work even harder than before and you’ll be looking for the next fad diet because you’ll feel more rushed to lose weight since you wasted not only time but money on phentermine. I told myself I’d be ‘different’ and it would work... but I’m not. It was a waste of time.
I had dry mouth which was fine. The anxiety and irritability it causes you creeps up on you, you have moments of happiness but then the other side of it comes and it comes so slowly you think it’s just you and not the drug and it’s no way to live. Combine that with persistent sleep deprivation and no results and you’ll be very unhappy.
I should have listened to my doctor and you probably won’t if weightloss is what you want... but if I could do it again id save my few hundred dollars and buy some workout gear or a pre workout to put towards my health/fitness journey.
Or put it towards food you can actually eat instead of shaving 1-200 calories off of your metabolism 😂

Everyone has a different experience. It is addictive, he knows what he is talking about.
I have been taking phentermine for 18 MONTHS. I had 1 pill/day The first 6 months and it was great. Lost 45 lbs, had energy, was exercising, suppressed my appetite. But after that, I built up a tolerance. No longer had energy, no longer suppressed my appetite. I was stuck at 130 lbs.
At 9 months they started giving me 1 and 1/2. And the only thing that changed was my mood. I had mood swings, I was almost always irritable, I was having headaches. My family started to notice the change in my mood as well. It was very negative.
Now, my boyfriend was on it as well. Experienced the same thing. He was becoming aggressive, he was irritable, and they actually upped him to two pills a day. I don't recommend, unless you have to lose weight quick for surgery or something like that. Because the long term effects that develope can be serious.

Being on Phentermine was the worst thing ever. I was on it for almost a year. I had the Obera balloon in for four months (I wasn’t able to finish the full six months because of the side effects) To maintain my 32 pound weight loss I was put on phentermine and never once was I told to take a break from it. I only took a half of one a day. I have slowly gained weight back, only gained three pounds.and even when I did take the other half later in the day it wouldn’t curb my appetite. The mild side effects were dry mouth and racing heart as well as headaches here and there. Then after a couple of months I started getting really agitated and had anxiety so bad I couldn’t even leave my house and would have full on panic attacks. I had very bad digestive issues. I used to self harm and about three months ago I cut so bad it was horrible. I also got very paranoid and thought my own family was out to get me and it finally came to a head when I started having suicidal thoughts and more than thoughts I attempted it. I finally realized it was the phentermine because the timeline was after I started taking phentermine. I became someone I never was and was even unrecognizable because of my aggression and hateful outbursts. I almost lost a few friendships and even my husband. He loves me and never would leave me but he was beginning to break and was beside himself. The withdrawal was horrible, I chose to go cold Turkey. Maybe I shouldn’t have but I couldn’t wait to get it all out of my system. I have pretty much gone back to my old self and thank God because who knows what would have ended up happening. I thought I was going crazy. It’s something I will speak openly about forever. Maybe I’m not the norm but there are so many stories online that says otherwise.

I don't like being on it I have same problem. Completely different personality. Lethargic, tired a bit depressed and anxious. Everything I'm normally not. That's all the pill has done to me thus far lol. Switching to a different pill soon hopefully it doesn't affect the personality.
