if I have documents with my previous name that I need to send, I usually send the certificate of name change with it so that they know that I had changed it and in my opinion I would enter the new name (even if it isn't official yet) I did that for college and it worked out well so hopefully it will for you too when I signed up for college my name was not officially changed to the current one yet but I knew it would be soon so I put my newer one anyways and I let my college know and everything went through well
@@maxwell_wolfx3 See I don't need people knowing my deadname, especially in a new country 😅. With my last name it's a bit different, because only one letter is being changed (so it sometimes comes over as a misspelling or something). I did apply to my undergrad with my chosen name before legally changing my name and that was never an issue, so I hope I'll be fine. But good idea, I will send proof of name change if needed! I would see about contacting an academic advisor for the school you're applying for and let them know about the name change being in legal process limbo and see what they say about it. They should be able to give you a definitive answer about what is and isn't okay to do.
@@MareaRayneOleander Oh yeah that's definitely a good idea. I'm not really worried about legal consequences or what is not okay to do, since Iceland has pretty lax name change laws, it's more to avoid confusion haha, to be sure they know they have the right person 😅
One letter, so it's like the difference of Peterson/Petersen? (One of those is my mother's maiden name, which is why I use that example) I know that in the US one could merely ascribe that to a misspelling somewhere. "Oh, sorry, that sends really difficult for people to keep straight. It's _____." Perhaps that would work for you also?
Yeah, it’s one letter that signifies the gender of the last name in Polish. I think it will be easy to correct and say it was a mistake, but it’s still frustrating 😅
@@TheQueerVikingBro I totally get that. I haven't started trying to change any of my documents (name or gender) and at this point, may not be able to. I helped my cousin change her name years ago, and it did take a while, because it had to be run in the newspaper for like a month. Even if I start now, and that's the worst part, it won't happen before the presidential change. And I only want to change my first name! I think there are frustrations with the changes for most trans folk. I hope yours slide by easily until your documents are updated.
