People forget that Brock Purdy had a serious injury to his throwing arm last year and didn’t even get to train but rehab. And after MVP caliber FIRST full season, now he gets full off season training and workouts for his 2nd full season at age 24~25. The entire offense is there with Pearsall added now. There is no reason to think Purdy won’t be even better when he showed up in best shape of his life at training.
The last time the Niners made the Super bowl the following season they went 6-10 and were just decimated with injuries. It has never happened on Kyle Shamnhan’s record that one of his Qbs stays healthy for two full seasons. We can only wait
I mean there’s some reasons the offensive line didn’t get better, the conference is tougher and you’re coming back from a superbowl hangover but hey I’m here for the good and bad I guess we’ll see what happens I just can’t wait for next season 😭👀🙏
Serious deja vu. This is exactly what Brady was called for years. I'm old, so I remember. Not even a SF fan, but I've got my eye on this guy. He might be one.
Agreed basically everything until 8:10. If you say Purdy doesn't know how to manipulate defenses with his eyes, you haven't really watched him. Yes, he can sometimes stare receivers (newsflash, every QB does that from time to time, even the great ones), but he is really really good at manipulating defenders with his eyes.
I had the same thoughts. There’s film on top of film where he manipulates defenders with his eyes, otherwise those “spots” he throws to would be an easy tell for defenders and it’d be pick city. He doesn’t bite on what defenses try to lure him into, and when he does and things breaks down- he’s mobile and can make critical plays out of structure.
One of the wildest things about Purdy is you can tell many who talk about him have only maybe seen him play in a game or two. People talk like he’s a check-down guy; he’s a gambler. People think it’s all YAC; top of the league in Air yards and y/pa. Etc. One thing working against him is that the Philly game, which got a lot of views, WAS a YAC game, but only because that was the specific game plan to negate the Eagles pass rush against the Niners subpar OL. So it served as confirmation bias for many who had already decided he was Jimmy G 2. But if you watch him for any length of time you will note three things; he does NOT play it safe, his preferred passing area is longer intermediate, and he’s got great movement skills, whether it’s buying time with subtle half steps or escaping the pocket and throwing on the run or moving the sicks. And he might be the best anticipation thrower in the entire league.
I’m a Seahawks fan and even I’m impressed with Brock Purdy. Can’t help but root for the guy and give him credit like Niners fans gave Russell as a third round pick coming into his early years.
@@vaddex If you are playing games and starting in the NFL you don't suck. You may be subpar compared to the rest of the competition but every QB who plays in the NFL are the cream of the crop of QBs in North America.
Fair breakdown. The only thing I would add is that the QB School videos do include examples of him using his eyes to move defenders. So he doe do that sometimes, but I'll acknowledge that improvement would be a good thing.
There is one factor in his development so far that doesn't get mentioned much in his second year ... He didn't have a off-season as he was recovering from surgery. He missed OTA and mini camps and didn't start throwing till right before pre-season .. and even then he has limited to so many throws per practice. To be able to run the offense as efficiently as he did, considering the complexity of the shanahan system is impressive. This season of course will be a barometer of Purdy. He will have a full off season and if he only gets better then Niners truly know they have their QB.
By the time he was 25 and going into his 3rd season, Joe Montana had made 8 starts, and was 2-6 with a QB Rating of 87.8. Purdy at age 24 and going into his 3rd season, is 17-4, with 1 pro bowl selection, 1 NFC conference championship, 1 Superbowl appearance, and a QB Rating of 111.4. Not saying Purdy is the next Joe Montana, but so far in his career he is off to a great start. The sky is the limit for this kid.
Love how Purdy was basically a walk-on but continues to produce. I think it’s more of a testament to how most of the league overlooks and under develops players (see last draft), than whether or not he’s “just a game manager”; even Montana ain’t going to the promise land w out a decent team or slick scheme. Nice take, smooth vid.
Yep. Purdy cannot be ONLY a system QB. He is probably a 50% system QB, but most QBs didn't do what Purdy did. Trey Lance, Josh Rossen, CJ Beathard, Nick Mullen and couple of others tried, but they couldn't do what Brock did. Brock also has deceptive speed. He looks slow, but he often escapes the rush. I think he is a top 6 QB regardless of what anyone else says. He has proven it.
@@JohnBowl14690none of those qbs you listed had cmc! I cant understand why the Purdy Maniacs try to ignore that fact! Brock is a good qb but the superbowl showed that he cant handle those afc top tier defenses!
It just shows the reality of the NFL. You might get only get a couple chances, maybe just one, but if you show up and produce, you'll live to play another day. If you don't, chances are once the season is over you're going to be working at a mattress retailer.
@justsomeguywithwavyhair267 They literally used training camp yo get his arm strength back and he didn't even receive a full workload use common sense he was cleared right as camp started that is not a true camp when you spend it getting your arm back. Just dumb for the hell of it.
He’s in a great situation that has optimized his production, but he still has great intangibles. Having a leader with a strong pocket presence is hard to come by especially from someone so inexperienced. I hope he improves his measurable skills on top of his intangible skills.
He will. This off-season will be his first time having a training camp, or any kind of preseason with the starters. Everybody forgets he was coming off elbow surgery from the injury in the Eagles game.

Before Brock shanahans offense was critiqued for relying too much on tight windows and complications and that it was too complex for a qb to run it properly, but a guy comes in and runs it to perfection it’s suddenly the other way around. I get a lot of the coaching in the video and I agree, and as a niner fan I only want him to get better, but I don’t think purdys numbers were inflated, especially when you look that he had the 2nd most air yards, and 1st most air yards per attempt, and highest deep ball completion percentage of any qb ever

That same situation happened to him in college. He was the 3rd QB on the roster and get to start mid season. Took Iowa state to 4 bowls and never looked back. As a niners fan…we finally found our next HOF QB
The top qb's of all time are that largely because of situation and that will never change if dan marino and warren moon had bill walshs 49ers they would have broke the sport of football.
So Mahomes is overrated because he had kelce and Tyreek to develop and win. Good one. Mahomes is only good because he has a good offensive system too, right?
@StuartScott-ng4ir No he isn't overrated but he joined a coach and a team that was consistently winning with Alex Smith and he took them over the top show me a qb that has multiple super bowls with a bad defense no qb does it alone no matter how great they are most win super bowls because of kickers and defense and that's a fact
Thank you that is the best analysis I've heard about why Brock may not be ranked higher. All I hear is I don't feel it yet or he's missing something. Very well explained. Thank you.
And on the other end of the spectrum, you have clowns like Nick Wright who will NEVER give the man his flowers. Brock could literally get MVP next year, throw 50 TDs, and 5,000 passing yards, and he would still claim it was the team around him.
Yes, he's a system QB that benefits from his WRs, RBs, play action and screen plays more than any other QB in the league, per PFF. It's not even debateable
He really is the new Brady: late round pick who gets the starting gig after injury to the big name star (in this case two of them), immediately has as much or more success than they did, gets crapped on as a “system QB.” Like the GOAT Purdy also plays a smart game, avoiding turnovers and relying on his weapons rather than playing hero-ball. Tom also took a couple of years to really develop into the GOAT-I’d argue about 2005, since that’s when his interception rate started dropping year over year. Edit: Any of you who think I’m saying Purdy is going to be an all time great or anything like that need to work on your reading comprehension. In no case did I say that he’s even the best QB in the game right now, in fact I implied the opposite by pointing out how it took Brady a few years to become great instead of just very good.
Some similarities, but more differences. Brady was very tall and not particularly mobile. His greatness was in his total understanding and anticipation of defensive schemes. He also had very good (though perhaps not elite) arm strength. His head coach was defensive-minded and spent more money building the defense. Purdy is the opposite of these traits. Not particularly tall, arm strength isn't great. Benefits from having an elite offensive mind in Kyle Shanahan dialing up plays. Plays on an offense with all-pros at every single position. That's right. EVERY position. He usually throws to wide-open guys, or throws a dumpoff that CMC or Deebo takes for 20+ yards. Jimmy Garoppolo, who is now a backup, put up similar numbers to Purdy with mostly the same team (Jimmy never had CMC). He reached NFCCG's and a SB. This is because he had a great offensive coach and was surrounded by great talent. If you switched Josh Allen's and Brock Purdy's teams, the 49ers would probably win the super bowl, and the bills would not make the playoffs.
Josh Allen would win the Superbowl with his team now if his defense didn't fold against the chiefs don't act like Purdy has some god tier around him our defense got worse compared to last year going from #1 run to "#27 and #1 to #8 overall Purdy played elite football in the playoffs and especially in the Superbowl better than Josh prolly would have or around the same@@chaseaplin5926
@@chaseaplin5926bs. Tom Brady didn’t have great arm strength ESPECIALLY, when he entered the league. Purdy has average 14th wr seperation. Does not throw to wide open guys. He throws guys open.
Purdy does not just follow the system. He has shown ways that can elevate it. Whether it's using his legs, anticipation, or his situational awareness before the snap. If Kyle Shanahan wants to get a Super Bowl win, he'll have give Purdy more control of the offense.
One of the reasons I prefer basketball to football is that in basketball you can have a "game manager" point guard and an "explosive" "play-maker" point guard at the same time... Pacers run to the ECF this year with Halliburton and Andrew Nembhard is a great example
"He isn't using his eyes at a high level and he can force throws that aren't there." The above quote from the end of your video is the ENTIRE problem with any conversation on Brock Purdy. He just finished year 2, he has fewer than 25 NFL regular season starts, he's still really young. The above criteria in the quote is what you use to evaluate a 10 year veteran. Someone who has been there, done that. He might not use his eyes at a high level, but he does use them at a good level, and certainly at a "way better than Jimmy G ever did" level. If Trey Lance was doing in the 49ers offense what Purdy has done the last two years, the consensus would be that lance was the second best QB in football behind Mahomes. No one would ding Lance for being on a loaded team. Do you want to look at what young QBs are doing right now in some pretty good situations around the NFL and the level of praise they get for doing it? Josh Allen is the consensus 2nd best QB in the league, he CHOKED in the fourth quarter of the playoff game against KC. Lamar is definitely one of the four best QBs in the league, and has two MVPs before he turns 30. Brock Purdy has twice the number of playoff wins as Larmar, who also CHOKED against Mahomes. Purdy got his team the lead in overtime against Mahomes. The pressure of post-season, single elimination football intense. Even great players get tight in the pressure cooker of playoff football. Allen and Jackson get tight and play scared. Mahomes and Burrow get loose and play free. It doesn't matter how good a regular season QB you've got, if your QB can't handle playoff pressure, you're not going to win Superbowls. Purdy can, when it was obvious Burrow was a QB whose game raised in the playoffs, he got praised for that. Purdy raises his game in the playoffs, and it's never even mentioned. He absolutely gets diminished because of where he was drafted. If he had been a top five pick, this entire conversation would be very different right now.
He managed to get to the NFC championship game as a rookie. And managed to get to the SB in his second year. My belief is SF would have won that game but for Greenlaws’s injury and leaving the game. He had shut down Kelsi up to that point. They could not shut down Kelsi then and that was the game. Way it goes. Purdy was in the conversation for MVP. How did he manage that?!😂

The truth is every QB has to be a system QB or they fail. You may be able to be successful for a year or 2 without being great in the system but then they will fail. See Cam. He was good for a bit but then just couldn’t manage the system.
I think if you look at his games after the ravens game. You can really see him start to get into his ability to play off schedule. Where’d that was cause of bad defenses or not idk. But he looked a lot better after that game in my opinion.
Shanahan is overrated, all of the GOOD teams are able to play his scheme and he refuses to adjust like a great coach would (Andy Reid has a brand new game plan vs the niners every single year) Shanahan runs the same stuff from week 1 to the Super Bowl every season he only gets away with it because of the talent in SF
@@travisescorcio1588 nope without Reid, Mahomes plays hero ball and wouldn't be half of what he is on KC. The Panthers are a wreck and won't be getting better for at least 2 more seasons. Expect the panthersto have the 1st-3rd pick for at least 2 more years.
Ya know what people dont realize is thst Purdy could have won the super bowl of he was allowed to run around and make plays if he played for the cheifs whos O line is so great they still have never even made a holding penalty in 3 super titles. However the one they lost had them crying about the officials after the game.
Lamar. Hes been doing it for years in a similar situation. Good enough defense and a bunch of mid at the skill positions. And a super leaky pass blocking line.
Anyone remember when Brady was a "system quarterback"? If you're a late draft pick, you will get that label until you become undeniable. Purdy is a dawg.
I think the point that everyone else is trying to make is different than your's, and you're just manipulating words. "System Qb's" are Qb's that benefit significantly more from the system that they are in than the avg qb does.
Josh Allen would be considered the GOAT if he was on the 49ers is what people mean by saying Purdy is a "Game Manager" Allen would unequivocally make that extra play to get the 49ers over the hump. I always point back to their first possession in the 3rd quarter. 1 run, 2 passes. 3 and out,
No, every QB is not a system quarterback. One of the reasons Patrick Mahomes was not considered a high pick by most teams was the past experience of QB from the Air Raid system failing to perform in the NFL.
@@jaedynstjuste1708Josh Allen sucks at reading defenses. Josh Allen gets away with it by being a super human. But I honestly think Purdy would do better on the niners than Josh Allen would.
@@braydonguitar649 I don't think its that he "sucks" at reading defenses. He just holds the ball too long because he's always looking for the biggest play. Him being superman is the reason why he gets in so much trouble, and why he's so great at the same time
He is legit a system QB but he’s on time and wins. He’s a great system QB. But most throws where you give him credit for “anticipation” are timing throws. Before the ball is snapped he knows he’s going to throw it because of how the play is drawn up. I give him credit because he’s ON TIME. But if you rely on ing plays , you are a system qb. That’s not all he has but its his play style AND THATS OKAY 😂. It’s not a bad thing to be a system QB. However there’s a difference between Purdy vs Allen/Lamar. Nobody goes into a 49ers game and circles Purdy as the offenses primary weapon. Teams that play the Ravens and Bills HAVE TO circle Josh Allen and Lamar’s name, because they I’ll hurt you without anyone’s help.
13th. Tbh that’s not a hate rank. Tell me how much #12 is vs #7. Is it a big difference? I think 5-13/14 are fairly close in talent. I think Purdy deserves a higher rank because he sees the field well, but it’s ticky-tacky differences. Dak is unclutch (
This post repeats those Purdy haters demeaning him just a system QB. In the last superbowl he makes as much plays as Mahomes but 49ers had unlucky breaks in CMC fumbled, a muffed punt recovered by the chiefs and Aiyuk did not make his usual big plays, a rookie kicker missing a sure fire 3 points and Niners lost by 3. It is not Brock Purdy’s fault. He is a no.2 QB right behind Mahomes.
Purdy could have easily won them the game but missed Debo open in the end zone. The fumble and punt don’t really matter since both teams had 2 turnovers. Moody got blocked on a 1 point kick, he didn’t miss a 3. We just went through this #2 stuff with Hurts last year, and now nobody even thinks he is top 5.
Gtfo. The 2nd best QB in the league? Bro c’mon there’s no way deep down you believe that. That’s a ludicrous statement. Although I agreed he played fine in the SB. Not amazing but was good enough to win. Loss wasn’t on him or even close to it.
I disagree with your take on his lack of manipulating safeties with his eyes. He does it at an elite level in fact. Credit Kyle Hamilton with that pick, it was a great play.
Purdy has sub-par pass protection. Niner's OL is Trent Williams and 4 other guys. The stats rank the Niner's pass protection in the bottom 3rd of the league. You can't bring up "lots of weapons" without talking about that. He's NOT a game manager, that's just a dumb take.
Do elite QBs need to have all the weapons and a great O line? Can't have it all, especially when he is getting paid. Gonna have to elevate regardless of something if he is going to reach elite status.
@@LastSecondSports I'm pretty sure he did for 97% of the season. But at some point, the OLine needs to step up, and they completely folded in the Superbowl. And you can't blame that on Purdy. The fact that he led the 9ers to the SB with an OLine that was ranked 22nd to 27th is astounding in itself.
I still really don't agree with 13th. But the assessment was fair. As a 9ers fan, I don't say 5th either. Yet. I would have said top 10. After an injury, he still outballed the NFC. The team argument should have died on the table after the Playoffs. When they didn't perform at ANY level, he didn't give up, and he started making plays by scrambling.
People forget and will hate but this is Kyle Shanahan's offense, so what to people expect ? Kyle said there are no plans to change philosophically on offense.
“He Is Le HeCkIn SeCoNd CoMiNg Of BrAdY!¡!¡” I think game manager is a fair assessment. Never been blown away or impressed by his ability. He is a smart player in a good system with freaky weapons. Jimmy G 2
How many of his games have you watched? He makes some ridiculous throws downfield. Jimmy G was one of the least accurate QBs throwing deep. Purdy set a PFF era record for deepball accuracy. Theyre completely different players. So Jimmy G 2.0 is fallacious from the getgo
I’ve seen a good number. Nothing about him as a player really sticks out. There is a reason he was the last pick. He doesn’t have a great arm, isn’t a great athlete, and frankly he whiffs on a good number of open throws. I think him having 4 of the best weapons in the game and playing under one of, if not the best offensive coaches in the game really elevates him.
I think anyone playing under shanahan can fall into the system qb it game manager label, which isn't a bad thing at all because you need someone who can run his system well. I sometimes feel like the wealth of weapons at his the 9ers disposal almost might make it more difficult to be just a standard system QB because the elevated star power of your surrounding cast causes people to raise their expectations for the qb as a whole.

My thoughts on Purdy could be summarized with the leaked story that Kyle and Lynch told Purdy in the offseason that they were going to try and lure Brady to the Niners but if that fell through he’s the starter. Are the comfortable even happy with Purdy as the starter? Absolutely. Do they know there are still better options out there? Absolutely. And I know losing out to the GOAT really doesn’t say much. But let’s not act like they wouldn’t trade him out for any of the top tier QBs. He’s in the top of the middle tier. 13 feels perfect for him. This video did a really fair breakdown of him.
It's so hard to place Purdy, and QBs like him that are efficient and effective at running an offense in time and on rhythm, in the macro of QBs I feel quite confident that he's not in the realm of Allen, Mahomes, and Jackson - these total playmakers and game changers at the position that add command a ton of respect due to how much they can affect any play - usually through a combination of mobility and arm talent. Yet he's definitely more than a Lawrence or Prescott with how he's been managing the 49er offense and putting up solid numbers and performances, solid pocket and situational awareness, and a willingness to play the middle of the field. Not a Game CHANGER, but more than a Game MANAGER. A top 10 QB in my eyes, that is absolutely worth keeping around if you're San Francisco, and hopefully can become a game changer of QB by perfecting the proficiency elements of the position.
Yes and there’s nothing wrong with being a system qb look I’m not asking for much like a superbowl or mvps I know the limits of Brock and Kyle but going to the playoffs every year and keep sweeping the Seahawks well that sounds pretty good
To the doubters….when Jimmy G was QB Niners did not average 30 points a game for weeks. Purdy has great players around him……all great QBs did btw and he has a solid defense but not any QB can go in there and do what he is doing
My question for 9ers and Purdy fans is, will you think his production is still amazing after he gets paid??? I think he’s a great player and certainly a top 10 QB but part of his hype revolves around him being the last pick and making almost no money. When he’s making $30 plus million a year I wonder if he will still be as beloved
@@johnbox271 he’s eligible this offseason, I say $30 million cause I’m assuming he’s smart enough and the 9ers gm is savy enough to have him take a slight discount in order to retain his weapons

Its funny this guy says Purdy doesn't use his eyes to pull defenders off the guy he wants to throw to. Yet Kurt Warner, along with several other qb's point out the exact opposite of this while actually breaking down film on Purdy. This guy doesn't know what hes talking about.
All people need to know is ALL other QBs not named Jimmy G were 9-29 under kyle shanny with these exact same players. If it was the "system" then these QBs wouldn't have been 9-29. Oh and to top it off Purdy in his first full year as the 9ers starting QB he broke the franchise record for most passing yards in a single season. Folks... this includes the likes of Montana, Young, and Garicia. Not to mention purdy was returning from a MAJOR injury and did not get an offseason to prepare. This coming year with a full offseason to train and prepare I can only imagine how good he will be
Yall look at him and say, “He not big like Josh Allen or tall like Hurts, or a big arm like Mahomes!” Yet this dude from the moment he stepped in he’s gotten better and better!
Purdy is nothing more than a game manager and Shanahan knows this, it was Obvious in Super Bowl 58 when they were down at the 15 yard line in OT to win the game and in three plays they couldn't do anything and had to settle for a Field Goal.
Once he gets paid like a top QB we'll see how this whole offense looks. They can't keep everybody, the window to win a SB is now while he's on his rookie contract. Kyle Shanahan is nothing like his daddy. I blame him not Purdy for them not winning it all.
Keep calling him what you want Colin Cowherd, Nick Wright, Grant Cohn. He has been tremendous considering how he got his start, blowing out his elbow. Keep it up Brock! Niners all day!
saying he doesnty use his eye at an elite level is striaht incorrect....he has to understand the part of the field that is open and if he didnt those very early anticipation throws get decided or if he recognizes the middle section can make any crossing route over the anticipation type play. if he couldnt read the defense like he does purdy would not have the thrrowing % he has for 20+ yarders. purdy has done several times called an audible because the design wouldnt have worked. if you know anything about kyle fucking hates when his qb audibles. purdy is now the first qb that kyle trusts to call an audible because purdy understands the system better than any qb kyle has coached. i hope this explains why purdy does things. dude has one of the most point point accurate throws that is a place that the defender can not reach. he will throw it in a arch to perfectly miss a defender but some times its requirement to catch is a lil bit harder ball but no one else can get it many of purdys ints werent even his fault fully. dude played 3(1 was just the 4th q) straight games with a conucussion that were all 3 of the loses but 1` of them were lost because kicker missed the game winner. 3 of 4 ints vs ravens werent truly his fault outside of the endzone throw that was on him. purdy's success is because his foorball iq and without it her wouldnt have been a starting nfl qb

The fact that you would say that he has yet to learn how to use his eyes to manipulate defenses tells me that maybe you haven't watched enough of this film. And if you have, then perhaps you're not analyzing it properly. If the fix to defending against Brock is as easy as you are implying, then how come more defenses haven't been doing it?
Not meant to be a dig or be condescending (although it does sound condescending) - my comment is more for all the (increasing number of) very similar offseason videos. So no intend to offend: "yet, PFF ranked him" never ends well. hahaha It's funny to see these kind of breakdowns where someone who "believes" something bc he's heard it 1000 times, actually develops his own opinion... but can't quite admit it that he's right :) When your "argument" against what you're seeing and processing is: 1. Essentially, you want him to get hit harder. With that offensive line, don't worry, you'll get your wish. 2. The standard #basic "he can't be good because some of his other players are good" rationalization. Yawn. 3. He forces too many throws that aren't there.. into completions? So don't throw guys open? 4. Uh, maybe it's play action. Expect if you simply look it up, you'll see that it isn't. Also, his numbers were definitely not "MVP Caliber" for last season. For every other NFL season, absolutely - but it seriously didn't matter what his numbers were or what he did - these "objective analysts" weren't going to allow a player they're all on record trashing "win" MVP of the NFL. No way. So they gave it a QB farther down the list than ever before. Because who's going to call them out? Themselves? :) All that being said, good piece. (seriously) 👍
Purdy won his 2nd, 3rd, 4th start when Deebo was injured, And he barely played in his fifth start.

Are you an NFL DB? If not, how can you really say that?
@@blakeharris58All you have to do is watch him play
So basically, you know what he's saying is true, but you can't accept it because of fanboyism.
Yeah if he was so obvious and unable to manipulate defenders, he would be more interception prone, which he isnt at all
One of the wildest things about Purdy is you can tell many who talk about him have only maybe seen him play in a game or two.
This is spot on.

Fair breakdown. The only thing I would add is that the QB School videos do include examples of him using his eyes to move defenders. So he doe do that sometimes, but I'll acknowledge that improvement would be a good thing.
Great call out! Love QB School's stuff.
I got to see Purdy play week 1 of 2023.
It shocked me just how effortless he made it look. Not flashy, but effective !
It probably was effortless, his team is loaded after all
By the time he was 25 and going into his 3rd season, Joe Montana had made 8 starts, and was 2-6 with a QB Rating of 87.8.
No
Some similarities, but more differences.
Nah Brady would of won the Superbowl last year with a team stacked like the 49ers

Completely true, in multiple ways.
Sadly kyle won’t probably do that
Brock is the system!
One of the reasons I prefer basketball to football is that in basketball you can have a "game manager" point guard and an "explosive" "play-maker" point guard at the same time... Pacers run to the ECF this year with Halliburton and Andrew Nembhard is a great example
That was a fluke a lot of injuries gave them that chance they are gonna have to make a big move to compete next year.
"He isn't using his eyes at a high level and he can force throws that aren't there."
The above quote from the end of your video is the ENTIRE problem with any conversation on Brock Purdy.

Hopefully Brock has a good qb coach who can develop him
He is legit a system QB but he’s on time and wins.

Although I agreed he played fine in the SB. Not amazing but was good enough to win. Loss wasn’t on him or even close to it.
I disagree with your take on his lack of manipulating safeties with his eyes. He does it at an elite level in fact. Credit Kyle Hamilton with that pick, it was a great play.
does it matter, everyone plays in a system

I’ve seen a good number. Nothing about him as a player really sticks out. There is a reason he was the last pick. He doesn’t have a great arm, isn’t a great athlete, and frankly he whiffs on a good number of open throws.

I sometimes feel like the wealth of weapons at his the 9ers disposal almost might make it more difficult to be just a standard system QB because the elevated star power of your surrounding cast causes people to raise their expectations for the qb as a whole.

And I know losing out to the GOAT really doesn’t say much. But let’s not act like they wouldn’t trade him out for any of the top tier QBs. He’s in the top of the middle tier. 13 feels perfect for him. This video did a really fair breakdown of him.
No no he is not
He is good af and his pocket presence is nice

It's so hard to place Purdy, and QBs like him that are efficient and effective at running an offense in time and on rhythm, in the macro of QBs
I feel quite confident that he's not in the realm of Allen, Mahomes, and Jackson - these total playmakers and game changers at the position that add command a ton of respect due to how much they can affect any play - usually through a combination of mobility and arm talent.
Purdy has already won a championship game. In only his second season. First as a starter. Coming off major injury. Jackson and Allen haven't won shit.
@@brucemcraejr2438 Winning is a team stat, not a QB stat
Yup
Yes and there’s nothing wrong with being a system qb look I’m not asking for much like a superbowl or mvps I know the limits of Brock and Kyle but going to the playoffs every year and keep sweeping the Seahawks well that sounds pretty good
All three games the 9ers lost were to teams coming off a bye week.
To the doubters….when Jimmy G was QB Niners did not average 30 points a game for weeks. Purdy has great players around him……all great QBs did btw and he has a solid defense but not any QB can go in there and do what he is doing
Second longest winning streak to start a career in NFL history. Ben Rothlisberger is #1.
Instead of saying system I’ll say he’s a ceiling raiser QB. But the great QBs in the league are both ceiling/floor raisers
This video shows how much of a system qb purdy is dawg lol
Cam who?
If you don’t think he looks like a franchise qb you obviously haven’t watched much film. Or you’re a Rams fan.
$30 plus million a year? By the time Brock Purdy is able to get an extension top QBs will make +$55M per year.
@@johnbox271 he’s eligible this offseason, I say $30 million cause I’m assuming he’s smart enough and the 9ers gm is savy enough to have him take a slight discount in order to retain his weapons
@@TheDiablotak Very little advantage to him in taking a $20 million a year pay cut. Bengals fans were sure Joe Burrow would take a "hometown" discount, but instead he got, at the time, the highest contract in the NFL.
@@johnbox271 The advantage to him would be the Niners would have more flexibility to retain or replace their talent. But I get your point. If anything that furthers my original point which is will Niners fans be as satisfied with Purdy and his play when he’s a $45-50 million dollar a year qb and talent is let go in order to facilitate his contract?
@@TheDiablotak Good question.
Fair enough take, but probably should spend a little more time on his running. Packers and Lions found out the hard way.
Its funny this guy says Purdy doesn't use his eyes to pull defenders off the guy he wants to throw to. Yet Kurt Warner, along with several other qb's point out the exact opposite of this while actually breaking down film on Purdy. This guy doesn't know what hes talking about.
lol 😂
Right now he could be called a game manager, because that is what Kyle Shanahan wants him to be.
This coming year with a full offseason to train and prepare I can only imagine how good he will be
All quarterbacks are in a system. Not hard at all to answer. Every teams system is different
Any schmoe can be QB in the Shanahan system. Just ask CJ Beathard, Nick Mullens, Josh Johnson, Trey Lance and Sam Darnold. Oh wait…
@JohnB-xo8dr Trent Dilfer wants his title back
Every QB is a system QB.
Some qbs are the system so no that’s not true
Jordan Love heading to the superbowl.
He’s being treated like Drew Brees was, never really got the credit he deserves cause he’s “under sized”
Once he gets paid like a top QB we'll see how this whole offense looks. They can't keep everybody, the window to win a SB is now while he's on his rookie contract. Kyle Shanahan is nothing like his daddy. I blame him not Purdy for them not winning it all.
If it's just the system that works, Trey Lance would have worked for them.
Keep calling him what you want Colin Cowherd, Nick Wright, Grant Cohn. He has been tremendous considering how he got his start, blowing out his elbow. Keep it up Brock! Niners all day!
He's not a game changer.
@@bigchungus1848 What’s a game changer??? And how many teams have one
@@gperezniners4949Burrow, Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Justin Herbert, Matt Stafford
saying he doesnty use his eye at an elite level is striaht incorrect....he has to understand the part of the field that is open and if he didnt those very early anticipation throws get decided or if he recognizes the middle section can make any crossing route over the anticipation type play. if he couldnt read the defense like he does purdy would not have the thrrowing % he has for 20+ yarders. purdy has done several times called an audible because the design wouldnt have worked. if you know anything about kyle fucking hates when his qb audibles. purdy is now the first qb that kyle trusts to call an audible because purdy understands the system better than any qb kyle has coached.
i hope this explains why purdy does things. dude has one of the most point point accurate throws that is a place that the defender can not reach. he will throw it in a arch to perfectly miss a defender but some times its requirement to catch is a lil bit harder ball but no one else can get it
many of purdys ints werent even his fault fully. dude played 3(1 was just the 4th q) straight games with a conucussion that were all 3 of the loses but 1` of them were lost because kicker missed the game winner. 3 of 4 ints vs ravens werent truly his fault outside of the endzone throw that was on him. purdy's success is because his foorball iq and without it her wouldnt have been a starting nfl qb
Go back and watch his tape from college. That will tell you he is the real deal!
Montana had 4 rings, Brady had 7. Both system QB's, both big winners.
It's really disrespectful to compare greats like them to trash like Purdy.
@@travisescorcio1588 I wouldn’t call him trash! Purdy mafia so desperately want that guy to be the next Drew Brees! lol
Montana and Brady were the biggest game changers in NFL history. Brady or Montana would have both made that throw to Aiyuk in the endzone to win the Super Bowl.
@@bigchungus1848 his cult members want Brock to be considered “elite” but they don’t want him to have the expectations that comes with being an “elite” qb! They say “he left the field with a lead in the sb” with such pride like that is equal to a sb ring! Deebo and CMC out is Brock’s chance to shut up his critics!
Im desperately waiting for the day when people realize that a Game Manager and a System QB aren't the same thing.
The only people who say “system quarterbacks” are armchair quarterbacks who think they can do the same while they don’t even know how to take two steps back without tripping
So no intend to offend:
"yet, PFF ranked him" never ends well. hahaha It's funny to see these kind of breakdowns where someone who "believes" something bc he's heard it 1000 times, actually develops his own opinion... but can't quite admit it that he's right :)
When your "argument" against what you're seeing and processing is:
Themselves? :)
All that being said, good piece. (seriously) 👍
