  • In this video I will be removing the DSG shift knob, removing the old, worn out shift boot and replacing it with a custom made leather shift boot. You can find these on Ebay from this seller, cost varies but I paid $40

    Very helpful video I just got a replacement boot for my wife's Tiguan. But after your video I deside to go with a cheap fake leather with red stitching. I already have a cheap leather steering wheel cover with red stitching that I have put by myself

    No screw drivers needed. Just pull the little clip up and makes adequate room to pull off the knob.

    For the black plastic peice you have to push down and make flush do you need it if your putting a after market shift knob on? I'm having alot of trouble getting it to pop off and think it might be easier to cut it and remove it

    Can the dsg style shifter fit on a tiptronic setup like this? I was thinking about either that or a mk6 style in my mk5 JSW

    I purchased a leather shift boot a few months ago and it's currently in the glove compartment. My biggest fear is not being able to finish something I start as there are a lot of easily breakable plastic pieces. Going to bite the bullet and hire someone to professionally install, I think.

    Hey man, I can’t seem to get the cylinder part to go down. It goes down on one side but I can’t get both down even with two screwdrivers. Any advice?

    • @2phast
      @2phast  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Which part are you referring to? Are you talking about the black plastic ring that snaps over the knob?

    • @kiangannonn
      @kiangannonn 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@2phast yeah, I managed to get it down so it sits flush but the knob won’t come off. Even with a lot of twisting and pulling it won’t slide off.

    • @2phast
      @2phast  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the plastic retaining ring is popped off of the shift knob, its just a matter of pulling really hard on the shift knob to get it off. Also, I assume you popped off the silver side cover and pushed the shifter button out till it clicked into place? This releases the cross pin from the shifter shaft, procedure is shown in the video.

    • @kiangannonn
      @kiangannonn 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@2phast Yeah everything has been done up to that point. Just being really stubborn to come off I guess.

    • @2phast
      @2phast  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      FWIW, I had to open my sunroof and stand with a foot on each seat to get leverage to pull the knob off. Much profanity was involved.
