actually in most cases, like in 98% of them, they usually have a deal with a coffee shop nearby or a "betting house" so they can use their bathroom. BUT they ether need to close down the whole trafika, put down the blinds, bring in the papers before they can go to the bathroom, or to wait for somebody friendly to keep an eye out until they get back - so this is used only in emergency :/ For heating they have space heaters... cold is not the problem - as we all know promaja is the biggest enemy of the Serbs :D source - been inside of lot of Trafikas

Grocery stores have tampons. Maybe not every single one of them but they have pads for sure. I think that mostly in Serbia, women use pads. Which I dont know why, Americans use those menstrual cups and tampons which is an alien thing for us hahhaaa
BTW, pedestrian zones were called korzo in smaller towns back in days. In my town ppl were walking while gangs of us metalheads/rockers, punks and scum stood all over messing around :) A pity back in 80's you would have better taste for music :) Trafika, kiosk, I don"t remember booze was selling there back in daze. I was in NYC last month and I was surprised to see that they had these kiosks which were very similar to the trafikas in the Balkans. Not sure how many other cities in North America have them though, definitely not here in Toronto
I'd say the places I've been in America mostly have bakeries for cakes and cupcakes and other sweet things like that, whereas in the Balkans, they have poslastičarnica and pekara where the first is more specifically for sweets and the second for bread and pastries. But they both translate to bakery
its usually in the immigrant-populated areas where they have bakeries. In Toronto, my city, they have all kinds of bakeries.. Italian, Portuguese, Brasilian, Filipino...I think there's even a Croatian one but its in Mississauga

So, many people from west are impressed/ thrilled by walking zones in Balkan cities. That's probably the best things they like as something new/ not seen before. Since I'm living in Canada I would say that walking zones are some kind of replacement for big shopping malls, where people usually go to do the same thing. In Balkans is extremely rare to find big shopping mall, but every single town from the smallest to the biggest has walking zone.
I never get why US dont have pedestrian zones ..Its just boring that there are just streets and cars everywhere you go ..if someone ask me i would make every center off city on the planet pedestrian zone

I live in Novi Sad and I never thought that things like that could be strange to see😂 We grew up surrounded by all it, so It's even normal to see a group of punks that could be around 13-14 to 20+ years old smoking, drinking, being crack heads on the streets... We don't think anything of it except that it's really stupid :\ The bakery thing is a necessity for people going to work in the morning, cause most of them usually skip breakfast. And school kids like me, because in Serbia we don't have lunch time like you guys in the USA. We should probably give you little lesson in geography. Serbia is in south Europe, not in east Europe. More precise, Serbia is majority in south, and minority in central Europe. East Europe is Russia, Belorussia, Ukraine and other ex Soviet countries.
