      Do you mean the Tour de France Hommes sans Zwift? Lots of memorable moments but team JV finally finding a way to gain big time on Tadej Pogacar in the Alps stands out as a definitive moment, which made the whole race into the epic that it went on to be.

      Team presentation. I was not in Tivoli but a long the "course". And then even soaking wet and freezing in the rain during the tt, and just after there bridge in Nyborg with a view over the bridge. And again the next day with Magnus in a solo breakaway somewhere along the road. We soaked up every bit of the tour we could.
      And now G is coming to tour of Denmark.

      More impressive than that, Wout Van Aert has finished top 5 in KOM points last 2 seasons, if he wants to go for green & polka dots in 2023, he could do it no problem. The only other rider who won both jerseys in same season was fellow Belgian 🇧🇪 the goat 🐐 Eddy Merckx in 1969. Which would be a most epic feat.

    Kudos to GCN and your sportsmanship for pointing out that Pogačar didn't loose anything. Another GC-win would have just been another number on a record list. His performance in total and his display of racing spirit and pure excitement for riding after having to give away yellow added so much more to his all time standing and to the fascination f the sport. Vingegaard, "vanVert", the DS of JV are no short with their contribution to the best TdF - possibly ever - at least since Hinault/Fignon/LeMond. Can't wait till this race starts again, hopefully with Roglic able to join it with optimum support. All such outstanding talented, great, fair and sympathetic sportsmen! And by the way: Did anyone realize, how well it served that event, that it hasn't been overshadowed by crazy dangerous sprint stages on narrow roads in the first week (ok, the cobbles could have turned out worse in bad weather ...). So hopefully the organizers finally learned their lesson as well - the course was just about perfect! Vive le Tour!

    Vingo's upbringing in cycling was completely normal as far as I can tell.. Been training since he was a little kid, learned to fight because he was so small and lossed a lot. Kept going trying to become pro and he finally succeeded because of he's extremely gifted genetics, love for the sport and enormously huge will to fight!

    Why would Roglic has to leave JV? Reading from Roglic's interview over the years, he said that of course, he wants to win TDF, but it's not an obsession. He seems to be a team player. Looking at the personality of Roglic, he is no Froome, Thomas, or Bernal who over the year, wanted to put their stake as "the leader". I didn't get that impression from Roglic. Besides JV is better when they come to TDF with the co-leader again. Just because Jonas won this year, that doesn't mean he can win again solely against another team with multiple leaders. And using Roglic as a super domestique is a waste of talent and opportunities. Unlike Thomas, Roglic still wins stage races, stages, and one-day races. The way I see it, it's an excellent position for JV. 2 leaders with potentially dominating TDF. You never know, maybe next year Jonas suffers what Pogacar had this year. Besides, I didn't see Jonas, as dominant as Pogacar. (at least not yet?) Jonas hasn't won as many races as Pogacar. Perhaps the media is just drumming up what's not there? I just don't see that Roglic will switch teams solely because he wants to win TDF. JV setup is perfect for Roglic. They have managed to help Roglic progress to where he is. Crash of bad luck or crash of his mistake is just the only thing that prevents him to win TDF.

    • @caet49
      @caet49 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pogi took the Jersey from Roglic without crashes or bad luck.
      Roglic Can Take Giro or Vuelta instead. TdF is now JV’s - and JV showed that you dont need to be a High stake Leader to win. He did it his way and in many ways in a Classic way without the Big fuss.

    That title is misleading suggesting that he was unknown before that climb posted on Strava. Jonas was known as a good cyclist and was on a Danish (Junior) Conti team Coloquick but as Denmark is flat with no hills and lots of wind the riding suits the bigger stronger guys whereas those small guys suited to mountains like Jonas battled to win anything.
    The team went on a high altitude training camp in Spain and it was there that Jonas set an exemplary Strava segment on the de Rates climb and this was sent by the team coach to JV and they took note.
    Also that fish market job was secured for Jonas by the same Danish cycling coach to give him some structure to his life while waiting to be picked up on a contract (and to build some muscle) - Jonas took the very job that Kasper Asgren vacated when he went fully pro.

    There is no question that Jonas Vingegaard was the equal to Pogacar in this year's TdF, but the main reason Vingegaard took yellow and ultimately won was his team. Pogacar made some crucial errors on stage 11. He wasted far too much energy chasing down attacks from Jumbo Visma on this stage which imo led to him cracking at the end of the stage. Still, hats off to Vingegaard for his incredible victory and the fact that he has literally come from out of nowhere to the pinnacle of modern cycling!

    strava KOM rider turned Tour champion I love his tenacity the curve of his progression is incredible entire team a really Laporte whos impovement at that age is bothersome , who never never won a wt stageuntil this year was with WVA, and MADS the 3 stringest rouleurs in tour just year or two ago he was being dispatched in Norway by VDP like an U-23 hes been this years sonny colbreli in sprinter without much if any prio success turned all around tralent not only sprinting betterv than ever he was climbing, time trialing. Had Primoz stayed healthy spit ambitions like T bobile in 1997 and two on podium. All Doms having career years it was wild a peloton decimated by covid dnf's with such low numbers and sofew stages win by GC raced at full gas friom start tio finish of stage to be fastest tour in hitory by .5 kms deserves a lot motre coverage .
    A full healthy peloton and a team riding in efficient train form the most efficient by far aero and fastest but this tour where team of 5 pulled t mobie green and yellow Bjarne somehow kept his and Zabel was erased from records so I could understand decimated field pull off incredible feat because of it but not while setting fastesttour im process defies logic. Its very peculiar. Also we know Jonas Vngegaard Rasmussen isnt it full name why not just own it? JV knows the playbook and has for last couple years wit documentaries and netflix now this year , despite no covid positives with al extra interaction making their success also successful for UCI we've seen this with sky, Postal, Mapei, La vie claire they are doing best to control narrative? Feels too familiar from last 365 years of watching. Liked it more when you saw youth progression and pedigree develop. Looking forwards to Lombardia and worlds.

      I'd agree Roglic is probably past his prime now, but more importantly, Pogocar and Vinegaard are a step above in the GC competition. If Ineos hopes to contend for the top spot, they'd probably do better to cast a wider net for several young potential GC riders, than pay a very large amount to Roglic to win a few week-long stage races, a couple TT's and maybe a Classic.

    Geschke lost the KOM t-shirt on the *first* mountain of stage 18, not on the *last* one. Sure, technically Jonas only got those KOM points when he won the stage, but Simon had no chance to win that stage anyway. Simon's best chance was being in the breakaway and getting enough points on Col d'Aubisque to secure the jersey. Sadly for him, he could not regenerate enough after the previous stages and he didn't have the legs on that day.

    Why would you think Roglic doesn't want to support Vingegaard in the next Tour? Sure Primos is a true winner and I am sure he still has the ambition to win the Tour, but he is also a realistic person, and he knows full well that Vingegaard currently is the better, I should say the best, GC rider. Roglic will never go to Ineos, not in the coming years at least. He is happy with TJV and he owns them his career. Also, as if Ineos has no GC contenders...

    WVA was awesome, but he can’t do it all every day. I get kind of tired of people saying he can as it leads to the Kate Wagner questions. I’ve noticed that he takes rests every so many days. For example he came in 20 min down on stage 17. His ability to suffer goes way back to his teenage years in cyclo-cross with multiple races per week in wretched conditions.. I think having a less intense classics season left him with less racing in his legs.

    • @epincion

      I agree on the rest days to recover, he paces his energy expenditure very well. Those 'rest days' are also a time honored way of deliberately losing lots of time on GC so as to be allowed to go on breakaways by the peloton in a GT.

    • @epincion
      @epincion ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jasonstevenson110 "Might" have beaten WVA, is the operative word. Yes I agree its quite possible he could have taken the stage.
      At the last check point Jonas was 1.32 sec in front of WVA and the TT course after that was the most difficult section comprising a long stiff hill climb followed by a steep technical descent and then a 1.7km climb from the valley up to the finish. Jonas was going full gas until he had a slip on the descent at 2.5km to go and only just managed to save it - at the time he was doing 70km/hr and a crash then would have probably ended his tour.
      After that scare he was very circumspect for the rest of the descent and only went back to max effort for the last climb until just before the last right hand turn into the finishing straight when he visibly reduced his effort and started smiling at the crowd.
      Reports say the WVA while watching this said something along the line of 'he is giving me the stage' and it's also clear that Jonas by then knew from the radio coms with his DS that WVA and himself had both beaten Pogacar's time.

    I also believe that TJV found out their Kryptonite to beat Tadej Pogačar, and i say this : Ineos has no leader, and Pogačar has no team, the only way Pogačar & Ineos can beat TJV is by joining each other !! ( similar to what Kevin Durant & GSW did to beat LBJ in the NBA Finals)
