If Wout for example, is prepared to play the bulldozer in the first week and drag Jonas’ ass to anywhere near close to Pogi, then I think Jonas could ride himself into form throughout the middle stages and make the last week interesting with Kuss and co pulling strongly. This obviously depends on the team members putting any personal ambitions aside and burning every match available for Jonas’ cause. That is the only way I see it happening. IMO, Jonas has a slim chance to win the TdF this year. Even completely healthy, it would have been difficult, as Pogi has been in top form and has not had any setbacks with respect to injury. It's curious because the team wanted to terminate his contract when he was found to have taken the sleeping pills, but couldn't - as the video makes clear. And he then almost immediately was arrested for trafficking illegal drugs, which is - to put it mildly - evidence of stupidity. Here's the report from Cycling Weekly: 'In a statement released to the public on Friday, EF Pro Cycling announced it has terminated its contract with Italian rider Andrea Piccolo, effective immediately, following the 23-year-old's second run-in with risky substances this year. The team revealed that Piccolo was internally suspended in March for taking a sleeping aid that, while not illegal, was not approved by the team. The team says it also reported the usage of the substance to the UCI at that time. The team indicates that it couldn't terminate Piccolo's contract then due to "legal reasons surrounding UCI standard rider contract."' GCN is reporting on this story as it's racing news. They report on all racing news, as far as I'm aware, without prejudice. But you knew that.
If Jonas comes back as the Jonas we've always known it will be VERY sus!! His performances are already sus in the eyes of many so if he comes back and smashes on everyone like he always does it will be the final bit of proof for many 🤘🏻🏴
What is not fine is that only the athlete is punished by doping even if the team is the one pressuring for results. After the fact they say they "suspended" him, even if he continued racing afterwads, then gave a tip on the airport arrival (how did authorities knew exactly who to look for drugs?) and the team cleans its hands.
Tadaj lost the last two because he was injured for one and made stupid tactical mistakes in both. Jonas was flawless and won. It won't be that way this year.
Piccolo was the sacrificial lamb. This way they can say we’re catching the dopers , all the while letting the big boys get away with it. Maybe we should just let them take anything they want to race .🤷🏼♂️

Honestly, if you want my support by buying stuff from the GCN shop, fix the problem that everything is shipped from the UK and you have to pay unknown taxes and customs on top. Do what everybody else does, rent a warehouse in the Netherlands and ship from there.

Also regarding Philipsen, it does seem he would need MVDP’s lead out for winning top level sprint…logical to resign the contract!

4:06 Sadly, no Kuss from what I’ve read. 😢 Poor recovery from COVID if what I saw is accurate.
Hi GCN Team, great content but also a comment - Jonas Vingegaard himself pronounces his last name as VIN-g-gard, not VIN-g-go. Just saying:)
Dan, you pronounce very well "Tignes", but there is no "é" at the end.
Its too much to ask for JV to win this tour. We know its interesting to have him there, but the injuries he had in April were too much. Give it to Pogy 5o double
Why is the doping case curious? I'm surprised GCN is reporting about it. Especially, since it concerns one of its guest pundits on Discovery+.
It's curious because the team wanted to terminate his contract when he was found to have taken the sleeping pills, but couldn't - as the video makes clear. And he then almost immediately was arrested for trafficking illegal drugs, which is - to put it mildly - evidence of stupidity.
Here's the report from Cycling Weekly:
'In a statement released to the public on Friday, EF Pro Cycling announced it has terminated its contract with Italian rider Andrea Piccolo, effective immediately, following the 23-year-old's second run-in with risky substances this year.
The team revealed that Piccolo was internally suspended in March for taking a sleeping aid that, while not illegal, was not approved by the team. The team says it also reported the usage of the substance to the UCI at that time.
The team indicates that it couldn't terminate Piccolo's contract then due to "legal reasons surrounding UCI standard rider contract."'
GCN is reporting on this story as it's racing news. They report on all racing news, as far as I'm aware, without prejudice. But you knew that.
If Jonas comes back as the Jonas we've always known it will be VERY sus!! His performances are already sus in the eyes of many so if he comes back and smashes on everyone like he always does it will be the final bit of proof for many
🤘🏻🏴
Sure he won the Giro but if Pogacar can't win the tour with that squad and a broken JV then you'd have to say it would be a failure.
I hoped it was Jan Ulrich for Ineos
Tadaj lost the last two because he was injured for one and made stupid tactical mistakes in both. Jonas was flawless and won.
It won't be that way this year.
Piccolo was the sacrificial lamb. This way they can say we’re catching the dopers , all the while letting the big boys get away with it. Maybe we should just let them take anything they want to race .🤷🏼♂️
I have punctured lungs and broke collarbone. It’s not easy to come back from that fast let alone beat the best in the world. Will be surprised if he is at the top of his game.
So does this mean GCN+ will come back?
Thank you for being one of the VERY FEW who says Jonas' last name correctly. I cringe every time I hear a professional commentator butcher it. These people are professionals, it's their job to get it right. Thank You!
I’m afraid the lack of training and racing will make it very difficult for Jonas to win this year.
Last I checked, sleep aids do not aid in performance...other than getting a full night of sleep. lol. The better question is why Andrea has a GoPro on his bike in a race (5:11).
Still not on the approved medication list, hence it's illegal.
I do not think you know about doping substances enough to make such statement without sounding gullible
@@darkiee69 It was only EF that didn't allow those sleeping pills - they weren't banned by WADA or the UCI.
He was caught using it and the team gave him a warning as it’s not illegal
Had a mini heart attack when you said 'podium dogs' and immediately flashed up a shot of Demi Vollering...
No Sepp....
Dan - please do us a favour and teach Marty how to pronounce "Marjerus" ;P
Honestly, if you want my support by buying stuff from the GCN shop, fix the problem that everything is shipped from the UK and you have to pay unknown taxes and customs on top. Do what everybody else does, rent a warehouse in the Netherlands and ship from there.
👍
Thanks to Mr. Farage.
“Jonas will be good enough to start the tour” but to whose standard, mine or Pogi’s? “Jonas will be competitive for the tour” but competitive for podium or for top 10? Good luck to Jonas!! Also regarding Philipsen, it does seem he would need MVDP’s lead out for winning top level sprint…logical to resign the contract!
vive la Tour
Can’t stand UAE but Pogi will be hard to beat this year! Hoping we”ll see some young guns win a few stages!
What a terrible accident for Katie Archibald. I don't have words.
If Jonas wins everyone: but pogi rode the giro. If Jonas looses: pogi is just better.
I thought Dan was going turn pro again!!!!
12:56 That photo of German cyclist Michel Hessman looks suspiciously like GCN's Conor Dunne...and given that Conor will eat anything - and often - one can understand how he could have ingested a banned substance.
Jonas, has done zero racing since his injury.
While Pogacar has been winning right and left.
Unless the Fates intervened, this year, is Pogacar's year.
