Douglas MacArthur is a celebrated and beloved hero here in the Philippines without him Philippines could've been a part of Imperialist regime of japan
I recently had a customer service rep from the Philippines help me with my cell phone trouble over the phone. He also mentioned that after hearing my last name.

@@rhmdixie4991What does that have to do with MacArthur, he returned to the Philippines later on and retook it,and he liberated the pow's, in the meantime the things that happened to the pow's were the fault of the Japanese as they did not treat them in accordance with the Geneva Convention which I believe Hapan was a signatory to.
He held two 5 star ranks in the army: General of the Army (5 star general in the US), Field Marshal (5 star rank in the Philippines).
And yes...he also came to the philippines..he has his statue in palo leyte philippines...

Dugout Doug !!! I think he was bitter because he was second fiddle to Nimitz and the European theater was the primary objective and Eisenhower just totally overshadowed MacArthur and his political ambitions went out the door when Ike became president and Truman hating him didn't help
