    In my hometown of Austin Texas an Elementary School is named after Robert E. Lee and in recent time some parents had come in and tried to request a name change for the school. The name has still remained the same because the number of people in favor of keeping the name or rather focusing the schools resources and/or funds into more pressing matters always outnumbered the few requesting a school name change.

South Carolina signed an act with the federal government (which you can go online and read) ceding the land to the federal government in 1836. They didn't offer to pay the union for it, they decided to attack Union soil. The confederates were the ones entering someones house in this case.

    I attended a school in Miami, Fl . Called Robert E. Lee. . My memories of that school located in Wynwood were terrifying fights and violence. Beautiful architecture a historical structure. It was destroyed and built a school that looks like a cockroach box. I am disappointed in the school system for destroying history. Violence and hate was allowed in that school the adults allowed it. I saddened of abuse and neglect to education, by the people that are saying children are the future. That school at that time witch was in the 80s allowed the disrespect of humanity.

      We can’t view history through the lens of today and even if we did, lee saw slavery as an evil. From his POV he was fighting a president who took up arms to invade his own country.
      Don’t feel shame for being related to him, that is just a fact about you but it doesn’t define you. If you fear being judged on association, just know that those people judging you, are making assumptions about your character without even trying to understand who you are or what your like.
      Slavery built the Egyptian, Roman, Greek, and Persian empires. None of those countries reconciled their differences which led to their fall. We need to look forward and just treat each other with respect.

    Let the Hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with his heel,
    Since God is marching on.”
    Glory, glory, hallelujah!
    Glory, glory, hallelujah!
    Glory, glory, hallelujah!
    His truth is marching on!
    He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat;
    He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment-seat:
    Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! Be jubilant, my feet!
    Our God is marching on.

      @Appen Zeller in America even if you are cheap labor you have more Freedom than anyone in the world and infinite more freedom than slaves. There are major differences and your point sounds like Socialist class warfare to me. Lets see today the "cheap labor" has Freedom of Speech, Assembly, Right To Bear Arms, Due Process Judicial Rights, Right of Free Movement (to move, relocate), Private Property Rights, Civil Liberties Protected against Discrimination in major areas like Housing, Lodging, Education, Employment, Government Bureacracy etc. They have voting rights in local, state and federal politics. They have right to serve in any level of elected government, judicial or bureaucratic government as well same for military. They have rights against Personal Injury and against Corporal Punishment. You could go on and on for days there is so much different. Today a "cheap labor" if smart can still buy a house, and do so with legal recourse to discrimination. They can buy a gun to protect themselves and if someone tries to inflict bodily harm on them they can protect themselves with deadly force if necessary. If cheated at work or in private dealings they can sue in court of law. If they want to move to a new place they can drive anywhere they want in the nation without anyone stopping them or hunting them to bring them back to keep working at the local farm or factory.

Alexander the Great was fighting one of the largest empires in the world and sustain a decade long campaign. Part of being a general isn't just being a great strategist. A huge part is being a great logistician which is where the south completely failed at. Piketts charge was probably the decision that ended any chance of victory.
