It's a rewatchable but not the same way a lot of other movies are. It's rewatchable because of the insane amount of names and information thrown at you. Can't possibly remember everything from one or two viewings

I watch this movie every few years. No idea; I know what the freak happened already. But something about it. Maybe it's nostalgia for when there were grown-ups somewhere. Even when there were bad guys, there were other guys.

Listened to the JFK rewatchable pod. Appreciate the effort. But the Wikipedia version is simply wrong. Sounded like Bill was the only one that actually knew anything about it. The character “X” was not “made up”…based on Fletcher Prouty and a little Richard Case Nagell.

It's not the best actor scene because it's so dark but the last Deep Throat scene is amazing. Redford gets so righteously angry, Deep Throat looks like he's signing his own death sentence in response and Redford response with utter astonishment both in what DT is saying but also that he would respond at all.

It is NOT a political movie. The focus of the film is how Woodward and Bernstein got the story. It's really a journalism movie. Robert Redford has said that multiple times and he was one of the producers. The political aspect is necessary to tell the story only. "Follow the money" from Deep Throat is an important line in the film but the most important line is from Harry Rosenfeld (Jack Warden) when he tells Bernstein "I'm not interested in what you think is obvious, I'm only insterested in what you know." That line should be framed and hung in every newsroom in America. Sadly, the news media is nowhere near that now. Everything is narrative driven, from both sides of the aisle, and facts that don't support that narrative are conveniently left out. This movie should be required viewing for all journalism students.

I paid a lot of attention and especially about the conversations when I watched it several years ago .
I recorded it on vhs during a TV broadcast in the end of the 90's and I watched a few days after.
It was so over the top talkative, painful and boring that I stopped it after about 60 minutes.
This is one of the rare movies that I didn't watch until the end.
And I don't intend to try watching it entirely again at all.
I even watched until the end some boring piece of shit movies such as THE ENGLISH PATIENT and THE LAST EMPEROR.

I don’t think it’s even the best political movie starring Robert Redford. Watch The Candidate. It’s not historic (although loosely based on Jerry Brown’s early runs for office in California) but gets into some of the conflicts in any political campaign.

It's not a matter of understanding at all.
This movie has obvious pacing issues and is over the top talkative, pompous, pretentious, very slow moving, really boring, etc.
Alan J. Pakula was never good.
On the other side, some other directors (Brian De Palma, Martin Scorsese, David Cronenberg, etc) made some very good (and even wonderful sometimes) movies.

This movie has incredibly rich dialogue, written by the same guy who wrote misery, butch cassidy, etc.
If you found it to be pompous or pretentious (redundant), then that is more of a reflection of you as the viewer.
“on the other side, some other directors (proceeds to name the most famous directors of all time) are good” - that is one of the most simple brained sentences I’ve ever read lmao.

This movie had one very fatal flaw, which every other "media takes down right wing boogyman" movie shares. It's INSANELY self congratulatory. A media that would NEVER do this to a Democrat President, (and they've had back to back Presidents that were infinitely more corrupt than Nixon was on his worst day,) but this movie depicts the insanely partisan Washington Post as this irreproachable beacon of virtue taking down the big bad Republicans. We're expected to cheer for 2 Marxists with an axe to grind on this quest. Overrated movie that puts She Said to shame.
