It's weird those fans didn't turn out for Ghostbusters. I thought maybe it'd be one of those movies that would still flop but be a fairly high earning flop instead of being a straight up flushed turd failure that Sony regrets in hindsight.

Now, I wouldn't waste my Time going to the theater, As the Critical Drinker says They are more interested on pushing "The Message" rather than giving you an entertaining story. We really need a Site that rates a movie based on how much nut job ideology has poisoned the story. The only thing we have now, is Professional Critics outing themselves with their own reviews, I know if the score is low and there is complaints about not tackling enough "social issues" or even worse not enough "Representation" in the story, there is a good chance that the film may actually be good.

"If comedy isn't funny it's a failure" - very true words, and this is definitely (IMHO of course) where 2016 dropped a custard. OG Ghostbusters was never set out as a comedy - watching it again at the weekend, the humour is there in the film to act as a tension breaker it was never forced, and wasn't really pushed to the forefront of the film, so what you have his action/horror with some science and a couple of laughs. 2016 ignored this, and the results are obvious.
    OG Crew:
Venkman - comic relief, unwilling believer
Spengler - the straight man, scientific
    Stantz - the eager child
Zeddemore - realist, working joe, the audience's character in the film

It's because of this rubbish film that the IMDB deleted all of its forums, dealing a crippling blow to the voices of movie-goers, because its makers couldn't deal with the massive blowback of VALID criticism. I dare say that the IMDB forums were the most globally centralized hub for discussing films, television, and actors, and in 2016 Hollywood realized this made it too easy for the general public to point out the _copious_ amounts of absolute garbage being pushed as "entertainment," so they took steps to silence voices under the pretentious guise of "stopping trolls" while applying unfounded labels on any critics. In a way, removing the forums was an act of suppressing free speech.
The most common defense for this miserable film was to call its detractors misogynists, but guess what, Mr. Plinkett made a review pointing what a catastrophe of film-making this was without once commenting on the sex-swapping of the characters: th-cam.com/video/AHUV8QLpEAc/w-d-xo.html

There are people that go out of their way to spread negativity whether we admit it or not. There's a big difference between 2016 and Afterlife. The 2016 film tried copying the original, but those involved had no clue what went into making a Ghostbusters movie. Sure, there was comedy in the original, but it felt way more natural and flowed better with each scene rather than having the character scream like banshees in an attempt to get a laugh out of people. Afterlife, at least judging by the trailers and interviews, actually seems to respect the original two movies and seeks to continue it while passing the torch. Are the references a bit heavy handed? Yeah, but other than that the movie just looks like I fun time. It gives me a Stranger Things/Goonies vibe, which I really like. My only worry is that they're reusing Zuul and Gozer rather than coming up with a brand new enemy. It could work out perfectly fine, I just like it more when continuations give the new characters their own unique villain rather than an old one from the original.

A shame that folks in Hollywood can’t make something new for their messaging rather than doing horrible things to pre-existing IPs. The Babylon 5 reboot has me more than a bit nervous considering all the luck of having the episodes’ stories, actors/actresses working well with each other, costuming, special effects and music syncing up. That it is a Warner Brothers product on the CW…. Why am I envisioning another “Batwoman?” I really hope that I am wrong.

I think, with a good script, a 4th Back to the Future could have been pulled off, with Marty's son from 2015 winding up in 1985, and you could have tied up the one loose end in the movie, Jennifer being left in alternate 1985. A good script is the key though. Writing today isn't as good as it used to be.

There are freshly caught fish, dead fish on ice, dead fish laying on the side of a road, rotting fish on the side of the road. But this situation is pretty much that even the BONES are long gone!
5 years, the movie failed HARD
And Sony decided the only way to say the IP was to try again and side track the 2016 version. Not the first time a movie or series was side tracked because it didn't go well.
So yeah this movie is dead, this IP might be able to safe itself if the upcoming movie is good. Nobody expects the quality of the original but hey this new thing might be GOOD.
