@TonysCoolTools Today I show the older model pinch a log tool. Also run the Lickity Log Splitter. Perfect morning for splitting rounds, 56 degrees here in ne PA.
hi there ,they were ahead of there time and about the only splitter way back when , love to find one . that was what inspired me to make my first splitter about 50 years ago , good show john
So true. Way ahead of there time with automatic throttle up, auto return, and best of all most wear parts can be made or replaced. The o rings are common sizes for the ram and the auto shifter ( if two speed). Thanks for commenting.
That was a great video. I’ve made 4 pickaroons. A 16” or so for inside getting the split wood for the stove. And 24” or so for doing just like what your doing. They work great. As I’ve said in a few of my videos, if your doin firewood you need one of these pickaroons. Nice splitter. I use a home made hydraulic wood splitter that I run off my 1975 Case 224 garden tractor. One pickaroon I gave to my son. The other one is about 30” long. Nice to use and pick up to rounds and go with them easily. Great stuff. Have a great day.
Nice simple picaroons. I use a framing hammer. The straight claws sink in easily but not too deep. Have also used a miners pick hammer, nd after spending time on TH-cam, purchased a Fiskars.
The Lickity Log Splitter really should have been the mark against which all splitters since were made. There really isn't much else that any splitter should do.
Hello , just found your channel . New subscriber here . I made man own pickaroon like yours out of a 2x4 ripped in half . I like your log splitter . very cool . Have a great day and stay cool.
That sure is a great working splitter! Can I suggest that you raise the deck up a bit? Seems like you're pretty bent over, my back couldn't take that for long.
No way to raise it without some major modifications. I am fortunate that I never had back problems. After all these years using a Lickity Log Splitter, I am used to the height. Although, after attending the Boonville Woodsman Fair and using the Eastonmade Axis and the Split Force vertical splitter, it might be time for a change! Thanks for the comment.
Like your pickaroons & firewood carrier. Wish you were a little more careful with your fingers & thumbs their awful close to wedge when splitting . When I split wood I keep my fingers-Thumbs away from ends of firewood being split, Only a blink of an eye & didget could be gone.
Agreed. On a splitter with wedge & flat plate reversed, I got my index finger between the the log and the plate (last log for the day, fatigue set in 20 minutes prior, anxious to wrap up, yada yada...and I'm off to the ER. 6 years later, thankful to still have use of my finger. Your tip may hurt some egoes, but better that than the pain & recovery I went through.
Just seen your latest video. I love lickety-split as I used to own a couple if you’re interested I got an original pair of brass shoes for I don’t know what model they’re pretty big but I’m trying to get rid of them. If you’re interested, let me know.
Yup, all fingers still there. Been using a Lickity Log Splitter since I was 13 years old, so about 53 years now. Just need to pay attention. Thanks for the comment!
Agree. These splitters were ahead of their time and very well made.
Awesome
Geez, split MANY a cord with my parents since the mid 70's

Fiskars is what I tell people to get if you don't feel like making something. Quality stuff.

Never knew what a picaroon was. Now I know!

I'm interested. Thanks! I'll get some basic measurements and then we'll know if they would fit one of my splitters.
Forget the "rounds" issue. It's still a "log" splitter. Don't let other people tell you how to talk......we understand what your saying just fine.
Noch alle Finger dran?
