    Hello Frederico ! Great video, as always, we can hear your English improving with time. I've an idea for you : since the coronavirus will probably make every Hema club close for a moment ( mine already has), could you do a video about solo drills ? Show your favorite ones with different weapons for example.

      ajith sidhu I’ve see your previous comments ajith, as there are huge difference from one weapon to the other I try to work over the things which I know well.
      Maybe I will do some small video about other weapons, like the saber, but in future.

    Your description of Fiore really reminded me exactly why I was so interested in it from the beginning: it's beautifully simple, very detailed, and for me it's the most satisfying longsword style I've tried!
    Thanks for the motivation to really dive back into my training again!

    I enjoyed looking through Vadi even without full grokking. Not an expert and haven't really practiced him at all and only a little Fiore practice but still interesting. For renaissance period Giganti and Alfieri are useful but I recently read Mr Loda's Neopolitan book on late rapier in southern italy and it was great and often overlooked.

    Great content as always. I've purchased an English translation of Fiore dei Liberi and I find the illustrations fascinating, but I've not invested much time in studying them. Going to change that starting today.

    I expected more italian treatises, is it only because you fence with german style? or do you feel that german swordmanship is better than italian overall?

    • @FedericoMalagutti
      @FedericoMalagutti  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      gioni lotyo It’s the opposite. I only fence following Fiore Style.
      Most of the Italian treaties are renaissance treaties, there is Filippo Vadi but I don’t really like it at all.

    • @gionilotyo9331
      @gionilotyo9331 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FedericoMalagutti that is really intresting to know: one Premariacco boi wins over dozens of german treatises. Also I did not know that Italian treatises were mostly from renaissance.

    • @FedericoMalagutti
      @FedericoMalagutti  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      gioni lotyo there are yes. The only other Italian manual is the Filippo Vadi one mainly. If we consider the canonical date in which renaissance starts, 1492.
      Some Bolognese manuals keep their roots strictly connected with the medieval ways of teaching things, but still they also show innovative methods too.
      Long story short, most of the medieval stuff is German stuff. Plus 3 Fiore (or better 4, even if I hate the Florius which is a too late remake) manuals.

      What's wrong with Vadi? That's the Italian longsword system taught in my home town, but I don't know it.

    • @FedericoMalagutti
      @FedericoMalagutti  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@lelionnoir4523 nothing wrong with Vadi in general. It's a personal opinion over it. I don't like the way in which is written the manual (which is quite complex and unclear) and the few images are almost meaningless.
      Funny enough, there is more people outside of Italy which studies Vadi, this is due to the fact that during the translation (and this is, again, my own opinion) tends to put their own experience in the manual, which becomes more easy to read and understand.
      In general the translations of Vadi ar better than Vadi itself.

  • @Joe-ci3te

    @Federico Malagutti - Do you have any opinions on any of the English translations of Fiore?
    Also , very neat video. I was surprised to see so many German manuals on your top 5 list. I thought for sure Vadi wouldve been up there! Lol
