smith & Wesson 629 performance center 44 magnum
This is my holy grail revolver. Sucks being disabled with limited income 😢
It’s sure a nice one. Hope you can snag one someday. Thanks for watching 😊
I hear ya. I think this would be great with. 44 special.
I was torn between this piece & the 629 De Luxe 3”. The day I picked that one up I ordered this one. Totally blown away by adding the pair to my collection. Beautiful firearm art.
Same! Since I already have the 6.5" deluxe I went with this one. The grips on the deluxe look so nice. I still might pick up a Deluxe 3" at some point.
I did both. Couldn’t decide.
A good friend of mine owns one like this and I get to shoot it almost every month at the range. This thing with its factory wood grip makes you hate it with full force .44 magnum rounds, but in the same time you actually want to shoot it again and again. And my friend lives in a house in the middle of nothere, so he carries it for several years now as his primary personal protection handgun, so it is actually both carriable and shootable, although with its specific limitations. A great revolver from S&W PC, as usual.
This thing is a beast with full power loads, no doubt! Live shooting it. .44 Special loads make it more tolerable. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts!
Oh yeah. That’s nice. Real nice.
Thanks! I’m so happy with it!
Watched this video too many times and broke down and ordered the 629PC 2.5" this week.
Picked up a Cold Python 4.25" few weeks back so its a good gun year for me :)
Oh man a Python! Thats one that’s on my list. Congrats on the 629PC! It’s such a nice wheel gun. Appreciate you watching my video as well.
I really like that unfluted cylinder.
Me too. It just looks right on it.
I own this model. I applied the round to square rubber Smith and Wesson N frame grips to mine. Its a joy to shoot especially with 44 special. 44 mag still punches but at a less mild punch.
Nice! I swapped out for the Hogue grips and it takes it considerably. .44 Special is so enjoyable and o shoot!
Sweet looking little 44
For a carry gun,if you did have to unholster it anyone looking at that huge barrel opening would probably turn tail 😁
Thanks! Yea I wouldn’t want to be looking at the wrong end of this thing… Hopefully I find a holster for it at some point, just because sometimes you just wanna carry something that makes big holes.
That is a beauty!
Thanks!
Very nice! Thanks for the video brother. 🤠👍
Appreciate it brother! Man I was so excited about this one.
@@ChristianGrest with every right, she's a beauty! 👍
Great video Chris!
Thanks brother! Saw these popped in stock again just the other day. Seems a lot more revolvers are coming in stock now… even saw the elusive 629PD that I think will be my next one
I’d like to have the 327 pc next
@@baba_yaga_101 been eyeballing that one too. But gotta control myself 😉
Carry it with Harry's shoulder rig. Option for open/concealed that way. And the weight is manageable all day. 44 Mag goes right through the Perp, the refrigerator behind him, the wall behind the refrigerator, and into the 57 Chevy engine block across the street where he parked. So...watch your background if you carry this for protection.
Thanks for the suggestion!
@@ChristianGrest Craft, not Harry's, my bad.
What a beautiful pistol! I just picked up a pretty beat up 629 myself, and I can’t get enough of it either!
Nice man! Love this thing
Revolver, not pistol.
Can't wait!
Sunday Sunday Sunday!!! Yea man, I’ve got a separate range video as well that’ll be out shortly after.
@@ChristianGrest I love the snubbys, looking forward to both of them!
If it’s for your own, personal use, you could just load .44 mag casings, down to .44spl levels.
I’m actually looking into that as far as what powder would work best. I did load up a bunch of .44 Special already.
I would think 240 grains loaded to 1200Fps would be MORE than enough without the extreme recoil -- for human predators that is
Beautiful Gun Brother
Thanks 😊. It’s one heck of a revolver.
Great video! Nice to see it side by side next to the classic. I agree 100% the unfluted cylinder looks SO much better. I'm sure you will enjoy shooting it much more with the Hogue grips, but the wood grips look better and will be easier to conceal. Awesome gun! Looking forward to every video you make with it.
Thanks! These 2 629 revolvers are so different! I’ll have a full range day video out soon. Just started reloading .44 special so I can shoot it more per outing, but I’ll have those rubber grips on hot standby if needed.
@@ChristianGrest they are super easy to put on, I'm sure you already know that 😅
@@publicdefender77 oh yea I’ve installed them plenty
My favorite carry piece.
Hopefully I pick up a holster soon for some carry. Thanks for watching!
I've got one of those. I love it. I did put hogie finger groove less grips on it. Tamed it down. And is one of my favorites now!
Nice! Yea I recently swapped out the grips for Hogue. Much nicer like my large sized 629.

Diamond D Leather, Wasilla, AK, you won't be disappointed.
Thanks for the suggestion!
@@ChristianGrest Got a DD for my S&W 586 357 Chest holster. I'm ready for bears ... except I'm in Orange County California . But I saw a coyote yesterday :)
@@lovetoedit Will work on a coyote too I'd bet!
Great revolver. I've have the same model. I carry 200grain gold dot at 1065fps avg. . For plinking try some 200gr lead cowboy bullets over titegroup or unique. I load everything in magnum brass. I carry iwb with a simply rugged sourdough. Great video
Thanks! Appreciate you sharing your thoughts and suggestions. I’ve recently started loading up some .44 Special and those are nice shooters, but I have some more .44 mag brass and might try some more different.44 mag loads. Appreciate you stopping by!
What hurts more a 44mag or a 357mag S&W 629 PS ? any imput out there . I'm buying one or the other.
I would think the .44 mag, but neither are comfortable. Still better than one of the scandium frame models.
I have the Smith PC 327 with 1 7/8's barrel and scandium N frame.
Also the PC 629 snuby.
44mag is more recoil but the 327 with full loads rocks also.
I added rubber grips on both which makes them way more pleasant to shoot.
Both are fine for shooting a few dozen rounds at time. They are awesome for carry size wise love them both.
I don't have any issue with recoil on 629 and normal full power loads using rubber grip.
I've shot a-lot of big bore pistols so maybe just use to it.
Absolutely beautiful gun, when you get a holster for it, will you post a video on it?
Thanks! Yea I can do that. Haven’t picked one up yet, but hopefully soon.
@@ChristianGrest Thank you! I'm about to pick up the same pistol myself, but not sure I want to get. Definitely interested to see what you find!
Thats a handful for sure 👍
Let me know where you can find a holster for one?
For sure. I believe Craft holsters has them. I’m undecided which holster just yet.
Craft holsters make custom holsters
..great product i had made on my 329 pd .leather
Thanks! That's one of the companies I've been looking at. appreciate you stopping by and leaving a comment.

#392 Dual Carry Holster (392)
Specifically for your 629
I have the same one.
I did change the wood grips for a hogue grip. The wood grips are sooooo sweet but i need better grip
Awesome man,.. gonna look that up! Yea I shot it again Sunday… even with light loads those grips aren’t comfortable.
It's sooooooo
Cccuuuuuutttttttteeeee...
Be a good match for the 444 marlin,,,
Looks like competition for the rugar 44 alaskan ,
I went with a 480 ruger alaskan,
That memics a 45 70 trapdoor 1873
😉
44 Mag All day long come on brother!
💯💪
That is a sweet pistol, thanks for sharing Brother.
Thanks brother!
Revolver, not pistol.
Nice gun, and nice review. My problem is I have extremely large hands as far as width. So it is a no go for me. I need a full size N frame grip to get all my fingers on the grip. Especially in 44 mag. Otherwise looks great.
Thanks! I actually ended up swapping the same grips my full sized has and they’re perfect. Hogue grips for N and X frame round butt work perfect. Shot it and my other 629 again this past weekend… love this thing!
All the current S&W round butt N-frames can use the same grips. The rubber grips S&W puts on many of their other 44 magnum revolvers will gentle this bad boy a little. Shooting Fiocchi 240gr JSP ammunition will help even more. Fiocchi claims 1310fps on the box but my guess is more like 900fps. Winchester 240gr JSP and American Eagle 240gr JSP hurt when fired in a lightweight 44 magnum revolver. The Fiocchi is not so bad in the same firearms.
Nice 👍 🇺🇸
Thanks 😊
Falco rotating vertical carry shoulder holster
Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll check that out.
Nice drill press. Just kidding. Great video. Thank you.
🤣 it’s nice drill press! Thanks man! I do like the revolver too 😉
Great Video! I've been wanting one of these sweethearts, so To celebrate Trump's victory, I just ordered one from Davidson's.
Thanks! Heck yea man… definitely a reason to celebrate with a new pew pew.
@@ChristianGrest I picked her up yesterday, She's Definitely a Work of Art! 😍
Stay Safe!!
Lock leather holster
Thanks!
I bet those wood grips bite you when you shoot it. Rubber grips are the way to
My takes, FWIW: adjustable rear sight w/ windage driftable dovetailed front is redundant, and, with a 2.5" carry gun, unnecessary and less rugged than fixed trench. Barrel that short wastes the magnum's potential anyway; even 3" would be better. Skeletonizing the underlug is nice, since all underlugs apparently have to be made full. The wood boot grips are practical for carry, not optimal for shooting, but I wouldn't have the heart to change them. Overall, great looking powerhouse. The only dealbreaker for me is the lock.
Some solid points for sure. Hard to get away from the lock on new made stuff… but there are a few. I was getting 720FPS out of my .44 Special reloads Sunday. Need to chrono some 44 mag loads. Thanks for watching!
If you handload. You choose a little faster powder for the short barrel. It hiits downrange hard! I shoot 300 grain hard cast through mine regularly. + 240 gr of course.
When it comes to short barrels wasting magnum potential that’s only true with certain ammo manufacturers. Hornady for example a lot of their magnum loads are pretty watered down until you go to their custom line which is a little better but could be hotter. For whatever reason they use 8-10 inch barrels to get the velocity rating they put on the box where most others will use 4-6 inch barrels for box velocity ratings
Bitterroot Gunleather. It’s a one mane show but well worth the wait.
Nice, thanks for the recommendation!
Non fluted looks cheap 😂
I like it. It’s different than the fluted cylinders my other revolvers have.
