I just purchased this revolver yesterday $1200, Beautiful powerful gun. Yes you are right, it is smallest, the S&W model 69 is a 2.75" barrel, but being it's a K/L frame and only 5 rounds it could be considered smaller with a longer barrel smaller cylinder. Enjoyed this review and all your others just subscribed. P.S. Have a S&W 460 3.5" Performance Center like your 500 on layaway!
@ factory Winchester 240 soft points. The theory is I can buy them anywhere & fairly cheap so I can practice more. In Grizzly county I’ve carried hard cast HSM 300 grain SWC or better yet Buffalo Bore, I think it’s either a 260 or 270 grain hard cast.
@@robertnation3077 ok thanks. I know I cant use +p+ 44 mag from Buffalo bore so I wanted to be careful with which hardcast. Is HSM bearload with 2.6" enough? We get 200 fps loss on velocity . Im thinking of getting Grizzly Ammunition for 300 gr @ 1400 fps. which will get 1200 fps with fpe of hair under 1000 fpe out of 629 performance center
Thanks for sharing! I gotta say though, the 44mag is not 2nd place behind the 500mag. It’s kind of like the smallest of the monster cartridges, and there are others like the 454 casull, 480 ruger, and 460 magnum that all stand between the 44 and the 500 in power. This 629 is also not the smallest 44mag. S&W makes an even smaller one on their L frame called the 69 (hehe, but seriously). It also has the 2.5 in barrel but with a 5 shot cylinder.
Thank you for commenting. You are absolutely right about those other cartridges. When I said that the 44 magnum was second place, i was thinking out of the more common cartridges, something I should have clarified in the video. I have the Taurus Raging Judge and have shot many rounds of 454 Casull through it, and it does has great power, no question. Funny thing, before you posted this comment, earlier today I learned for the first time about the model 69... my personal opinion is that is just too small of gun for that powerful of a cartridge. The Model 629 already hurts the hand far more than my snub nose 500 S&W. Anyway, thanks again for the comment!
There are a couple lightly smaller .44 magnums. There's S&W's own Model 69 Combat Magnum which is a slightly smaller and lighter L-frame, but only 5 shots. Then there is a Taurus Tracker 44 ultralight which is lighter and arguably smaller but also just a 5 shot. Then the last is maybe the Ruger Super Alaskan but due to it's solid construction it's definitely heavier but physically the same 7.62" overall length on paper.
If you put on the pachmayr “decelerater” grip, the recoil is much more pleasant. I don’t run full power hunting loads in it, but 200 gr XTP’s at 1500 fps or 240 gr hydra shocks at 1200 fps
@CultOfArms it didn't say other then wood grips .the first picture on search for it on the site was the red brown grips .but when I checked out to buy it showed the walnut grip.thank you ..hope I get the walnut color one ..both look nice .just like the way the lighter one looks .
My two drawbacks with a .44 Magnum would be. Ammo, and pricing of the ammo. Then shooting 240 gr loads on a consistent basis. Which I wouldn't do if this was my gun. I said two drawbacks. But here is a 3rd. It's so smooth looking 💯. It wouldn't be my everyday carry .44 Magnum.
I run smooth VZ grips on my 329PD and what a difference compared to rubber grips if recoils smoother with the VZ grips. I’ll do the same when I get one of these

Cool! Thank you for sharing! Glad you like my content!
I will eventually get a SW460, super cool caliber & gun :-)
Bought one in ‘17 and it’s my go to for the wild places.
Thank you for sharing!
what do you usually pack in it for ammo? do you carry any factory load or recommend one?

@ that 300 grain Grizzly load sounds really bad ass! I need to try that.
If it is reliable, there is nothing to dislike about it.
There are pros and cons to everything. Even a supermodel.

Just got both of mine. Didn’t intend to have 327 and 629 but I’m not upset about it. Very pleased with both.
Got mine right @ $1400 OTD from Academy Sports. Had to order online, local pickup.

New subscriber! Just placed an order for one of these… love the 44 magnum cartridge and wanted a smaller revolver than my 6.5” 629. Awesome video!

Beautiful gun. The worst recoil I’ve ever shot was a 4570 in a small single shot. Derringer called a cricket never wanna do that again. Good job BR
Thank you for sharing!
I own one love it . I also own 2 500 mags a 460XVR a 454 ruger super RedHawk and another S&W 44 mag with a 10 inch barrel. Love the wheel guns.

They work great for me on this pistol.
I have one and put the decellerator grip on it. The wood grip is ok for 185 grain bullets but cut my hand with the 240 grain ones.
But the wood is so pretty :-)
Had my eye on this , thanks! Great review! Now my wallet is gonna be $$$ lighter. Liked and subbed ! Keep up the good work!
Awesome! Thank you!
How do you know if you order online that you get the walnut color grips? Instead of the dark brownish red grips?
It should say on the description.

S&w 69 2.75”” is smaller but the 629 here is still nicer
Thank you for that!
You said incredibly small package. 🤣
What loads were the 44m? How heavy projectile and what speed?
I am sorry, I didn't document that information. I am trying to remember to do that more often.
There's a revolver called s&w model 69 in 44 magnum
Got one love it!!!!!
Thank you for sharing. Do you mind me asking when you bought it and how much you paid?
Thanks for the content, I have one on layaway lol I paid 1532 delivered
Right on
