My dog Misty passed 7 years ago. She was 10. She got sick one day. I took her to the vet. and the vet. diagnosed kidney failure. She was vomiting, etc. but I let her rest on our bed - she slept with me all of the years she was with me. One night, while attending to her I whispered to her that she can go anytime because I don't want her to suffer. That week she took her last breath on my lap. I miss her to this day.

I've had four dogs in my life...all of them were abandoned (some very young). Every one of them were individual. I have never experienced such love, loyalty, friendship like I have from them. I would "catch" myself smiling or laughing during each day when I was with them. I even had two exactly same dreams about my first Dog...Rocky after he had been gone for a time. I know it's strange, but in these dreams he is just staring at me...each time I would wake up with such a strange feeling! My Mother once told me that if I ever could find someone (person) that loved me as much as Rocky did that...I would be blessed!
You learn from these Friends. They need your attention every day. They (DNA) have descended from Wolves...you are Their "PACK"! They really deserve our love (I thank God for creating these Friends for us)!!!

I lost my little boy on May 11th, from spleen cancer. He was 13 and a half. The doctor had told me to be alert for these behaviors. Knowing them allowed me to try and prepare myself for the loss and love on him 24/7. I asked God not to let him suffer and to take him to heaven in his sleep. God did just that. He was sleeping and gave a little yippee. I took him into my arms and he went limp. I immediately started to plead with God to forget my request and give my little boy back to me. After performing life saving efforts, I let him go. I must confess that I had not experienced the level of pain that I felt since I lost my Mom. I am still hurting but every day it gets a little better. I have his ashes and they will be added to my urn when I die. My prayer is that we will be together for all eternity.

You will be. Please be assured your sweet little boy is with you every day and knows you miss him dearly.
We will all be reunited with our departed loved ones, including our pets when it's our time to transition to the after life. ❤

@susooz1 I am so sorry for your loss. We can both truly relate to each other's pain and sorrow. But hopefully, we both can continue to receive some joy and happiness as our memories allow us to remember all the love and support that our babies bestowed on us. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't talk to my little guy in heaven. It is comforting to me because I feel his spirit and his presence. God bless you and your angel in heaven. We will both see them again. ❤️❤️

My Westie passed away 4 years ago. Before she died, she lead me for long walks around our estate even though she was suffering from the Westie lung disease and coughing badly at home. I knew she wanted to have a last look at these places including the dog park before she died.

i remember being soooo afraid i wouldn't "know" when it was my critters time to go!!! what if i was wrong??? what if i allowed him to go and it wasn't his time??? what if, what if, what if......turned out i didn't have to "know" anything as the time came when my critter let me know!!! that day broke my heart as i knew......and we parted ways, for now, but i know that when it's my time, he'll be at the rainbow bridge....waiting for me and we'll be together again. peace.

There is one other thing, which can occur in humans too. A long decline, and yet sometimes a 'rally" or spike of energy. This is particularly true of humans or animals with a history of strong determination/purpose/mission. Often seen in service dogs, or working breeds. It is important to recognize this, because it may make you confused about helping your dog to die in comfort and dignity. If you do see this, then they may want to see old friends, have a little assisted walk around the garden, or whatever.
Quality of life is far more important than a few extra days in discomfort and pain. Of course, don't overdo it. But I believe that dogs, like humans, often have a "bucket list" of things they want to do or experience one last time.

My 17 yr old chihuahua Butkus boy, is still walking and wanting to walk and eating and drinking water. That’s what I look for. Butkus and all my pups 15 to be exact have eaten pup foods but ultra is my fav.small bites. Soak em in a bit of milk or water. And yes don’t keep it for over a day like that . Spoiled milk! Human rules apply.
