I like Paul a lot. He's an opinionated guy & some people don't like that, but the more I've gotten to know him, the more I know how to take him & the more I enjoy his company. I find it refreshing in an industry increasingly owned by corporates that tow a vanilla company communication line, that Paul is still happy to say what he believes no matter who he pisses off! And he does know how to make a good guitar.

You had to be strong to keep control of that one!! I can see the mutual respect you have for each other... And how passionate PRS is about all of his guitars! kinda wished he didn't keep playing over you when you were talking, You seemed a bit nervous when you played too

I wish he actually did speak his mind more as he's at his best when he does. He tempers it with a very corporate need to push his own agenda, and he makes it clear that he does a lot of what he does for the sake of business. The guy has made it, he has a wonderful company selling great guitars, and really doesn't need to compete any further.

    • @wildwayz

I've only met him once, but he really has 'that way' where you can just listen for hours. Even my wife was interested. Really nice guy, even if he thought I was crazy...
I asked him why, if he was a stickler for detail, the model etching on the pickup covers are wrong; the person who does the etching doesn't take into account the pickup being neck or bridge so to me, when they are on the guitar, it is upside down lol
Apparently noone has never told him that...

Honesty is a rarity in sales these days, and you always seem to be honest about products you carry. I live in Florida, but will (seriously) order a guitar from your site one day, just to support your efforts. Please keep setting an example for all business owners, regardless of trade. Lee is no multi millionaire. He's put everything he has into the business. OK, he lives reasonably comfortably, but he lives on what was a council estate on the northern edge of Guildford, not a hugely desirable address, and he doesn't have a massive collection of gear. The only way you could consider him to be a multi-millionaire is if you include the property and stock vested in the business.

Everyone is complaining about Paul noodling over Lee talking and I wouldn't even have noticed. I don't think it's inappropriate to noodle around as long as you don't do it loudly, it just shows that he can't keep his fingers of the guitar.

I was thinking the same thing. He's itching to jam again. I don't think he's doing it deliberately to be rude, he just loves playing. I'm the same way when I'm jamming with a friend. We'll be shooting the shit and I'll be noodling around on the guitar as well. Mind you it's not a professional interview but at the same time as a guitar player himself, Lee should be able to understand why he can't keep his fingers off the guitar lol.

    • @davecarsley8773
      @davecarsley8773 5 ปีที่แล้ว

That's because you're a poorly raised jerk. You don't seem to understand that during a conversation, whether you're listening or not is far less important than if the other person THINKS you're listening. If they don't, it changes the entire dynamic of the conversation. They open up less, say different things, and engage with you on a far more shallow level.
Perhaps you should stop thinking about whether YOU think it's rude or whether or not YOU know you're listening and start thinking about the person who's giving you their full attention and only getting half of yours (or just enough to comprehend what they're saying well enough to respond to them).

I play it into a Princeton reverb reissue. I love PRS and I love that Paul owns and runs his own company. I'm switching to PRS for my main guitars from now on. Paul is just so innovative with all those little things he's always putting into the guitars and that counts for a lot in my book. I don't see many large companies doing those things if any. People keep saying that Paul Reed Smith is disrespectful due to his noodling but honestly in my opinion he's awesome although I don't even own a PRS guitar. I may have a wrong impression but to me it seems like the Captain and PRS have become friends by now and honestly, when I'm talking with my friends and have a guitar on my lap, I also tend to start noodling around.
I can understand that you don't like to see that in a video but to me that creates a relaxed atmosphere and adds a bit of entertainment, which I like.

The Captain is most likely referring to Gary Moore´s collaboration on the track Oh Pretty Woman with Albert King. It´s on the Still Got The Blues album from 1990, but it´s a collaboration on one track, not a full album.

Guitar I regretted not buying: I had one of the first Taylor Koas for testing and it was unbelievable. It was really expensive so I couldn't buy it anyway, but the parcel service somehow destroyed it on the way back. It was insured of course, but when I heard that it was destroyed it broke my heart.
Gear I regret selling: I had two Meda Thiele Road Ready 1x12", sold them way too cheap to get a 4x12" V30 cab.

I had that "I wish I would have bought guitar" myself. It was used S2 Singlecut...that thing was just 7 pounds and had such sustain and presence...then I plugged it into a little Fender Blues Junior and all the pickup positions just bloomed ! Stupid me, I left it on the wall (for a whole $799 US dollars).

I think the captain is a little hard on himself, he may not be the flashiest player in the world but he knows his limits and doesn't try and push them which results in him sounding very musical, tasteful and reliably solid. A playing style that lends itself to amps that put out exactly what you play like that.

"Dogs Bollocks" and "Bog Standard" are derived from the two original Meccano sets produced by Frank Hornby. They were named "Box Standard" and "Box Deluxe"... Found that out watching QI :-)

Funny enough for me it was a (highly underrated)1996 PRS CE 24 Cherry Burst I had to sell wen I was in my very early twenties. It was the only thing of value I owned but I needed the money desperately to buy a car to get to my new job. For many years I have tried to locate it to buy it back but wasn't lucky so far. It's probably the only thing I deeply regret to ever gave away.

I agree with Paul Reed Smith that people listen to your videos because they want to know how gear sound but without moving from their home. However, in a lot a shops you just can't enter the store and just pick up a custom shop guitar and an expensive amp and play the gear without being judged and questioned by the employees.
PS: Those guitar looks and sound AMAZING!

Several other brands pump out unbelievable crap out of their standard factories. Ive had an almost unplayable brand new strat and a Gibson with mayor finish and knob flaws and a BC Rich with the worst tuners ive ever tried, only in tune for ten secs at a time. PRS is in a different league and I'm sure Ill never get pissed at his brand. I like they way he faces his customers. I think he is proud of his products unlike some of the other execs.

  • @jimcamp2423

He's right, when you pay for the guitar you respect it more. My favorite, a $ 25, 2005 Squire Bullet HT SSS. It was my Luthier skill development guitar. And it was rough, bought in a parking lot, but after working on it, making it better than it was abused & neglected to, it's my favorite. I did put PRS strings on it, 9.5's. I also have a 2017 Epiphone LP Special I P90 and will put Gibson LP 10's on it, if I don't like those, I will string with PRS 10's, just because the experience with the 9.5's .
The success of the videos aspect. I am a touchy feel-ly type of consumer. I watch the Anderton's videos for entertainment. Most of what they review I'm never going to drop that much ona guitar anyway, ever. So I see what they have, head down to the music stores and then compare, but I also touch, feel, hear, see, play, handle and then I research more on line to compare the woods, the finishes, the rest of the hardware. And like PRS indicated, buy and that's the one. As the Captain asked earlier, Do I name them, I sure do. The used one's I bought 2 in parking lots, ALDI (grocery store) & Luna (Mezzaluna Pizza) are their names, the Epiphone is Paula, that was a brand new purchase, it's a Les Paul, but since it won't ever be a true Gibson LP, it's always going to be a Paula.
