The value of Guitars! The only difference from the inexpensive to the most is wood placement inlay and finish. Almost every guitar they make are made from the same woods just different placement. Which is why I don't own one! Here is a piece of Wisdom from Paul! "A good guitar player going places, knows how to play Rhythm, Melody and Harmony at the same time, if not will be just a mediocre player"! - PRS!
My PRS Core Custom 24 35th Anniversary Edition is the best electric guitar that I’ve ever played. Truly, it becomes a part of me when I play it. The feel and the tone meld with my body. I love it so much!
Okay one thing I will say is I love his passion and enthusiasm about innovation and creation. I’ve seen many of his clinics and he says the same things like the wedding ring, the 7.25 radius, the tricks of how to fool your wife and other bits and that’s fine because it is a performance. Now about the 45 seconds…he isn’t talking about it ringing for 45 seconds with audible sound, what he means is literally the strings still vibrating so not only do you listen but you have to actually watch the string until it stops vibrating. I’ve tried it and it gets close to 45 seconds but he might be exaggerating or maybe hit the note harder when he started the test. Either way, nobody will convince me that PRS is not a quality instrument. They stay in tune better than other brands, they are rugged, they are beautifully finished and crafted…lastly, they sound amazing. If you hate prs it means you just simply can’t afford one or you don’t like the looks. He is the only original founder and manufacturer around. We need to appreciate this. He is right about the pedals too. Get your skills and guitar right then add effects after that. Cheers!
@@laranjiinha77 Yes even with an with an amp is fine. Open string and just watch the string and listen closely until it absolutely stops moving and ringing
I think he's just exaggerating it a lot, maybe 20 seconds or so would be excellent but I don't think you can get much more than that no matter the build quality
Paul also compared a solid body electric guitar to a Stradivarius in front of microphone - dude legit thinks an instrument with magnetic pickups are impacted by wood like an actual acoustic instrument like a violin or acoustic guitar. This video was also incredibly cringeworthy - I was uncomfortable watching this and I wasn't even in the room.
Glad to see someone calling him on his bullshit right away. Came here from a MusicRadar article and wanted to see if there were still people with common sense kicking around, or if all the gearslutz morons spread out like a plague when their woke-ass dam broke. PRS knows how to make and market a guitar, but he is a spin doctor that is quickly destroying his credibility and preying on naive newcomers.
Always enjoy these interactions with the audience-- thanks for posting! Loved hearing the wife(?) ask what the difference is between a $25K guitar and a $2K guitar. Bet there was more to that conversation that was edited for time... I never get to go to these clinics, so thanks again for posting!
The thing with PRS guitars is they don't sound like the ones we are used to hear, they have a sound of them own. In the mix maybe nobody can tell the difference, but in the shop floor, you, the guitar and a tube amp there is that felling of "sounds good but it is not mom".
What note does he play for the test? I used an open G. I tried a parts-caster, a Les Paul Standard and my PRS Santana (NOT SE). I got 12 seconds from all three guitars.
His speech reminded me of a speech General Petreaus gave in Bahrain 17 years ago. I went to learn something but it was just him entertaining the troops.
My PRS se CE sunburst rings for about 16 seconds. The neck vibrates a bit longer. I love the guitar and sounds awesome. But not reaching the 45 seconds by any margin. Logic though because of its price.
With all due respect to Mr. Smith, it takes a lot more than a chronometer to tell whether or not a guitar is good. Surely resonance -- not necessarily sustain (although sustain too is very important for most of us) -- plays a huge part. What I do is I play them unplugged, and I press them slightly against my chest and stomach to feel how much they vibrate. Good guitars feel alive, they are vibrant. There are exceptions, though: I own two core PRS models, both USD 3K+ instruments, a 2008 SC245 and a 2011 DGT. The DGT is very vibrant. The SC is not. When unplugged, it's about as dead as an Indonesian or Taiwanese-made agathis DeArmond I used to have. The DeArmond did not play well, wasn't comfortable, but it sounded "decent" when plugged into a nice amp. The SC looks, feels and sounds amazing. I also own a 1993 American Standard Strat with a swimming pool routing that sounds very good, and a 2013 50's Tribute Gibson Les Paul with Lollar P90s that's super good. My favorite axe? My 1994 padauk Washburn N4. Looks awful to me. Other than that, it's just awewome!
I think i figured it out…. Anyone can mod their guitar…it’s like a task, not an art…. But Paul has found an angle to turn the task back into an art so that people know just enough… but not how.
what's the difference in $2000 and $17000 PRS? Simple. better woods, better workmanship, and better finish / inlay work... it's like asking what's the difference between a Chevy Malibu and a Bentley Azure
He likes the sound of his voice the most. You build a parts Strat w/pre wired pick guard to make it easy and it will sound better than whatever Paul is going for.
Clearly you don't know what your talking about or you are extremely biased towards the brand. You can't be the number 1 guitar manufacture if your guitars are pieces of crap.
What are the parameters for this sustain test?twin reverb etc. On 4 1\2 large room with16' ceiling! 40 plus seconds 😮 a clean guitar with no effects? Too much salt spoils the sauce !
Okay no amplifier. 40 seconds for a solid body guitar with your ear pressed against it? Stop watch in another person hand, seems exaggerated number for me. A great acoustic guitar absolutely yes.
PRS is describing subtractive synthesis for the first 5 minutes. If you want to build a guitar synth, then just do that PRS. But you can stop with the tonewood nonsense. It comes down to the pickups, the electronics, and in terms of sustain, the bridge and the nut. Want longer sustain? Use a brass but instead of bone, TUSQ, or plastic. It’s that simple.
Him attributing a best sound to vowels, especially an "a" vowel, shows his lack of linguistic knowledge. Generally, this faux-clinic exposed him unprepared for the event, meandering, injecting random thoughts, relying on questions from the audience, not his own agenda - well, there was no agenda - and what is most cringeworthy, him asserting the possession of knowledge. He's an experienced guy (with strange ideas, but it's his right to have them), who has no idea how to talk to an audience.
Total nonsense. I tested every guitar I have. Including a vintage les Paul. 17-20 seconds. Simply not true. Like his recent claim about tuning pegs being a major influence on the tone. I tried it all. Chords. Open strings. Single notes. His guitars are really good. No need for this idiotic claim.
I had never heard the claim before, but I tried it on my 1967 Les Paul for shits and giggles. I couldn't hear it beyond 30 seconds, but it vibrated for 52 seconds. I don't know what it means or if it matters, but it worked.
What's your biggest takeaway from Paul's clinic?
That no matter if you build and sell guitars, you can get old without understanding nothing about guitars. 😂
that Paul has a true founders passion for what he does, and that translates to the best electric guitar made today.

The 45 sec test is open strings and unplugged or just a chord strum or a note anywhere?

Love listening to Paul and wonderful to hear him play a little more than we normally get! Great piece! 🥰🥰🎸🎸🍷👍
Love any guitar PRS makes ......
Someone show me or tell me where a video exists of an electric guitar un-amplified sustaining for 45 seconds, I just want to see it
I think he's just exaggerating it a lot, maybe 20 seconds or so would be excellent but I don't think you can get much more than that no matter the build quality
It doesn’t.

He is full of it, a good guitar will give you 15 to 25 seconds, prs, over rated over priced furniture.

Best of Paul Hits 😅 hope to meet him in person one day.

Hmmm. My S2 singlecut rings for about 8-9 seconds. Probably need some new strings!
Não necessariamente, talvez o que precise é não dar ouvido para um fanfarrão que inventa que uma guitarra possa soar por 45 segundos.
My acoustic rings for a good 27 seconds. I don’t think 45 is unattainable, but definitely rare.
No that's what you can hear. Humans hearing is really not that good and can not pick up most frequencies.
What note does he play for the test? I used an open G. I tried a parts-caster, a Les Paul Standard and my PRS Santana (NOT SE). I got 12 seconds from all three guitars.
Nigel from spinal tap taught us about sustain 40yrs ago.
I've been gigging since early 70s!!! It's not so much the gear , but the talent within 😊😊😊😊😊
His speech reminded me of a speech General Petreaus gave in Bahrain 17 years ago. I went to learn something but it was just him entertaining the troops.
when paul talks about how long the guitars rang out for, is he reffering to playing the guitar unplugged or plugged in?
My PRS se CE sunburst rings for about 16 seconds. The neck vibrates a bit longer. I love the guitar and sounds awesome. But not reaching the 45 seconds by any margin. Logic though because of its price.
It is the price and he said in another interview it will last about 16 to 20 seconds. I have S2 standard and it rings for 43 seconda
I love listening to Paul! He's so intense and knowledgeable and he loves Jimi like no other ! How can ya beat that?!

I like to hear Paul talk almost as much as Paul likes to hear Paul talk! I love the guy!
The Man of guitars actually cares about guitars...and music. His SE models kill all the other corporate brands for half the price.
😂 Great Video. Would love to meet Paul and have a chat 🐱 about TCI. John.
Damn, none of my guitars ring out acoustically for more than 5 seconds, even my PRS SE
Ha - "I have 29 PRS guitars" - I am trying to get there 13 and counting !!!! and Yes I want a Dragon, Love my 513 also
I think i figured it out…. Anyone can mod their guitar…it’s like a task, not an art…. But Paul has found an angle to turn the task back into an art so that people know just enough… but not how.

magnetic pull will shut it down.
Sure will
Yo con mi fender japonesa no llego a 10 segundos

How long you can actually hear a guitar ring for acoustically is highly affected by the environment.
Mi wife has a wedding ring so I guess I don’t have a gear problem.

Good guitars. But not for me. Tried 4 in my collection. Just can't feel it. Especially the price. Fingers make sustain. Bull
Just get a Fender or Gibson……
Get a Tokai or Hagstrom , or a Vintage brand 335.
Ok boomer
Boushit . Shame as F. HE talko a LOT LOT LOT a NEVER EVER SHOWER 45 SEC GUITAR
A lot of bla bla bla for trying to sell some crappy sounding and cringe looking piece of furniture. 😅
