Every time I hear the Captain play I swear he gets better, I really wish we could hear more of him in other videos. It's always all about Rob (not that Rob isn't also a brilliant guitarist), but I really prefer the Captain's playing. Turn him up a bit.

I think they both play about of the same amount per video. the Capt knows all the spec stuff of the gear and does the talking (and selling) and Rob demonstrates them. But you're right, Lee plays really good but when they jam together, now that sounds absolute fantastic and I always like the jam the most.

I have no idea why but it occurred to me around 7:05 how much different humans are than animals. I'm just sitting here watching Lee play those blues, and I look over at Rob and he's just sitting there watching Lee play those blues, and then I think about how many 10's of thousands of people all over the world are taking a specific moment out of their life to just stop and watch Lee play those blues.
It's extremely fascinating and trippy. People will say whales and birds sing, etc etc, but pods of whales and flocks of birds don't gather around to hear 1 whale or 1 bird sing for a period of time. That difference is virtually infinite.

I think it's because those of us "genuinely nice" people in this world WANT to see other nice people succeed. Regardless of what Lee is playing and how he plays, we all want him to sound good (the same goes for Rob). Other animals don't have the attention span that we have, and therefore, they don't necessarily have the ability to care about these type of things.

It's funny, you look at the options for a Les Paul and it's almost entirely a bunch of rather similar bursts. And a solid amber, a black and a gold top. That's it. But you get it and you're like... oooooh! And then you play it and you're like wow!
The one in this video sounds great. Rock on! \m/__o__\m/

Capt... would you please expand into Canada. PLEASE. No guitar shop I've ever been into seems to have the "owner" kicking around, caring so much, running a real MUSIC shop. Most every guitar shop here, is the standard, corporate run, vanilla, (not setting up guitars the way you do for display), guys standing behind the counter ignoring you as they talk about last night's 'gig'. I get the sense this is a different sort of shop you run over there. Ever since I saw that you DO set up all the guitar before display, is shocking to me. The running joke here in Canada at least, is that no guitar in a guitar shop ever feels good. They all need a set up. But clearly yours get one before they hit the shop floor. The way a guitar shop should be. Cheers... and please come to Canada. Please. You'd put Long and McQuade out of business in 90 seconds.

For the first time ever, I'd really love to see a retailer like this, come into my country and CRUSH the local competition. Or drive them to up their game. But I'm as certain as I am of my own name, that a week in business here, would kill every other shop's business significantly. Think about it. Internet legends open a real guitar shop in your town. Anyone who plays guitar probably knows who these guys are. They'd eat L&M, Steves, Tom Lee's for breakfast. Trouble is, here nobody has a reason to be a better retailer. They all just piss and moan that people window shop and buy on-line. Well how about running a website from this century for starters and up your on-line presence with a decent, searchable, user friendly, (with pictures) website. Every website the shops run is a JOKE. But they complain about people buying on-line....??? Seriously?? It's 2015. Wake up. It seems Andertons have.

I feel for you guys. I live in New Mexico (usa) and the only shops around here are local ones. But luckily they guys there do like to help the customers and their prices are reasonable. And most of the guys know their stuff too!

      @CaptAnderton 9 ปีที่แล้ว +42

You guys are way too kind! I like to run the store to a level where I'd want to buy stuff from us. It's a simple ethos but like you guys say, a lot of the bigger chains lose sight of this. I expect if we had 5-10 stores we would struggle to keep it up. And that's why (I'm sorry to say) we won't be opening a store near you any time soon!

I absolutely adore my R8. It’s my most prized possession, and I feel so honored to be able to call it my own and play on it every night. Mine is bourbon burst, and is a plain top. I would love flame, but I got it used at a great price, and couldn’t be picky. Mine stays in tune 100% of the time even I’m I’m cranking 1and a half step bends on the g string. It just won’t go out of tune. It’s a nice solid weight, but not too heavy. I just love it.

This run of Green Lemon '58's are some of the best Les Paul's ever to come out of the custom shop. The specs are amazing, the phat necks are spot on, the playability and tone are first-rate and the mojo is absolutely phenomenal. The tops are great as well, nailing the colour expertly and the flame going from a near-plain top to era-correct flame. Great video lads--this coming from a former slim-taper fan!

There is something about these ultra high end guitars that just inspire you to play much more than you would normally. I've owned dozens of guitars, some really nice ones, but they never spoke to me. So I just would kind of use them as a filler, when I had nothing else to do. If I had a few hours to kill, I would grab a guitar, noodle around, play over a backing track, whatever. But once I got my Les Paul Standard, it became my primary focus. Now, I plan time to sit and really work on something. On a Friday night, instead of going out and getting shitfaced with my buddies, I will stay at home, grab a bottle of wine, a few good cigars, and spend the entire night composing, studying, learning and it has become my passion. Before, it had never gripped me like that. I cannot explain why.

Since Lee (and i myself a bit too) is a classic guitar fan here's what you could do. A comparison of "old" and new technology approaching the same matter. Custom shop, collector's choice, most expensive Les Paul, with thinnest nitro finish, with hottest hide glue and premium wood hooked up to a custom shop made, hand wired, p2p approved classic amp (Marshall JTM, JMP, JCM800?) vs a les paul standard joined with a tube amp build on modern PCB basis with chips, RAM and so on. Best thing would be to choose possibly the same amp model - custom shop reissue and standard production. It would be so hard to see such thing anywhere else.

You guys are awesome. Captain I'm digging your new Lemonburst LP. I particularly enjoyed "buying a LP each" video. There's nothing in life more fun than buying a new guitar. I agree on the neck profile thing. Gibson sure can carve a nice neck shape. A thicker neck contributes to more string resonance, as well as tuning stability too. Gotta go practice now so I can be as good as Chappers!! Keep em coming lads!!

I liked when Rob tuned up the low E string by grabbing the tuner instead of pushing a button.

My second guitar was an Oscar Schmidt 12 string. I understand the feeling of just having your hands full. I love thick necked guitars. You guys are hilarious by the way. I love the challenge videos that you two do together.

Got a handpicked 58 VOS with a stunning flametop recently... had to ged rid of two 2007 LP Classic Customs to afford it, but that was worth it. It's the best guitar I ever played. Proud to have the same one as the Captain!

Lee! You couldn't be much more excited. I don't believe that I've ever seen anyone so excited and had his "ENGLISH" so fouled up by it. I can't and won't bug you about it because I"m extremely jealous, dad gum it. Good luck with your new guitar. (Dam, I am jealous. What? 12 grand? Close?) Yea, you can hear the fun over the lines just fine, no worries.

I really enjoy these guys reviews. Love the playing too. Rob is an awesome guitarist. The captain indeed is cool too. Just an observation though; ever notice how much the cap wipes his nose? LoL.

The thinnest, fastest neck ever made was the 1986 Kramer Nightswan. It was my first "real" pro level guitar I ever had, and my guitar hero was Vivian Campbell (with Dio) and I literally got my hand memory ingrained into my brain still to this day. I bought one off Ebay and as soon as I got it, it was like going home, it felt wonderful. You get spoiled and can't go back!

I'm currently looking at a '58 Lemmon 'Burst but I'm in holding mode, waiting on a few things to sell. They're not cheap!
I loved the neck though as soon as I picked it up and strummed the first chord.

I've always loved 58, 59 and 60's reissues, someday I'll be able to afford one lol. One thing that I've always wanted to hear is how the Custom Pickups of these custom shop compare to the traditional Gibson pickups, like burst buckers, classic 57, etc.

You guys rock... I've been quietly viewing every vid for YEARS!!! And I have a few observations... 1. Your reviews are the absolute best on YT, hand down. 2. I love listening to Rob play, one of my many vices. You are great, way better than I ever hope to be, RESPECT! However, every time Cap plays I find myself wanting more... love the style, love the chops... Cap you gotta play more in the vids!. 3. Rabea rocks... Dorje rocks... live! 4. Rob... bro.... come to Jesus meeting here... I am 38 years old.... I have always been a "long hair". Rock the long hair... but as I've aged the forehead has gotten bigger and the hair has gotten thinner... in 2012-13 I really let it go, full on long hair... my final hurrah!! But time and creeping forehead have taken their toll. I cut my hair, gave up the dream, and I could not be happier now! I have found that since my head weighs less... my rock is more!

    I agree with you lee.
Fatter necks grow to feel more comfortable, the more experienced you get at playing.
And of course there is the tuning stability and extra tone.
Don't be upset about that top on your les Paul though.
It's a one of a kind, subtle beauty.
