My mother met Carlos with his band in the 90s when they were touring in Finland - my mum was a guide for the artists at a festival here.
Carlos is the most humble and down-to-earth, just a fantastic guy. The other legendary artists at the festival were always a bit late, just to be diva, and the "main stars" always had limousines whilst the band travelled by bus. Well, Carlos Santana was always on time (usually even before his band) and travelled with the band (a very big band) in the same bus.
He was the total opposite of the stars, of which some treated the backing band like work colleagues and the guides like servants - for Carlos the band were his friends and the guides he treated as equals, as work colleagues.
So if anybody is wondering whether Carlos is only a nice man for the camera - well, I can tell you, he is the most nicest man outside of it.

I was once very fortunate to be checking into the Beverly Hills Hotel for the Grammy Awards and looked over my shoulder only to see Carlos Santana standing there with his guitar slung over his shoulder. I mean, sure. It is. But lets not kid ourselves here too much. Paul Reed Smith certainly helped hook this up and the reason is because Andertons is a major PRS retailer as well as a major musical instruments retailer around the world. I love Lee and those guys Andertons. They've done great things growing this TH-cam channel and in the process getting people inspired to play a lot of musical instruments. However, they sell those instruments and they sell a WHOOOOOOLE lot of them, all around the world, including PRS'.

I was the chef of the Foundation Room back when Carlos first started his residency in Las Vegas. I had meetings with the chef from House of Blues downstairs and we both smoked so we'd hold our meetings outside the back door, right next to the theater. So our meetings were scored by Santana rehearsals ;) (and 5 minute meetings would last an hour). I was told he loved tuna fish sandwiches and to have them on hand should he pop in after a show looking for a tuna sand. So I slow poached sushi grade ahi in olive oil and made the absolute best freakin tuna fish you ever saw, but he never came up.....:(
His band did though and I tried to get them to eat it so they'd tell him about it but they were too scared to eat his tunafish! So me and my staff ate the best tuna fish sandwiches ever until he went on break. Making new batches and eating the old one every 2/3 days. I still use that recipe and while I don't sell tuna sands, everyone who does try it can't believe tuna can be that good. So thanks for making me create that recipe, Carlos!
Just cover the tuna in basic or Pomace, olive oil. (use any Ahi you can find but not one giant piece, cut manageable sized chunks for your baking dish)
Add a Tblspn Kosher Salt (or not and put the salt when you put the mayo)
Sprig of Thyme, Rosemary, Marjoram and a bay leaf (laurel),
Cover with tin foil and bake at 250*F until the tuna is just cooked through (145*F)
Remove and let cool under wrap, as is.
Make your tuna how you like it once its cooled completely
Break with your hands wearing gloves and finish with a little extra virgin olive oil after the mayo.

Man, the way he explains his vision as an artist is unbelivable, that is the reazon of why he became a legend, he is just inspiring and he is able to transmit his voice through his guitar. I think that's the most important thing if you're going to make music of any sort, to be able to speak through your music and forget about the tones, money, amps, guitar, etc. just worry about the message you are delivering. I bet that Carlos can grab a bullet strat throug a line 6 spider and make it sound totally magnificent. (sorry for bad english, i could go to google translate but it would be worse).

Lee is maintains his composure so well in the company of modern musical masters, keeping the conversation flowing ; without the dreaded video conferencing talkover that still plagues that technology. Thank you very much Captain for that interview. Any interview with Carlos Santana is a master class not only in music and guitar playing but in life itself. He's so much more than just a musician and/or a Rock Star. If you notice, he's not known as a Jazz musician but on basically every interview he never fails to mention two of the most important pillars of that genre, Miles Davis and John Coltrane as his biggest influences.
From the world of Latín music he also mentions two of our biggest stars, band leaders and huge influences on his music. Percusssionist Tito Puente, composer of one of Santana's biggest hits, (OYE COMO VA) and pianist Eddie Palmieri.
In that sense, I suggest you get in touch with Eddie Palmieri (Puente already died) and interview him too. Like Santana, Eddie aside from being a great musician is also a very spiritual human being, a thinker, a well read individual, a historian, a philosopher and a very nice guy too. With a career of more that 50 yrs, between tropical music and Jazz,
Eddie has been an inspiration for generations of musicians.
Check him out. I'm sure your audience will enjoy hearing from him.

Well John Mayer and Eric Clapton are Capt's two guitar heroes, and as he now seems to have worked his way up the fame ladder to genuine guitar legends, it would not be unfounded to ask either of those two for an interview.

I'm glad he likes to share his history and perspective, which is as close as we're ever going to get to those iconic days of Woodstock etc. You're not going to get that information in YOUR communication style, you're going to get it with all the flavor that comes from the source. Amazing interview! Thanks so much! It’s really special! Kind of funny though, I know Andertons is a major PRS supporter. Santana had his PRS guitars ready for the interview. Santana mainly just plays those live. When he practices when the cameras are off, it’s usually with his strat that he bought in Chicago. He used it all over the last couple of albums. I think the “Africa Speaks” doesn’t have any PRS on the album, it’s mainly it’s his strat.

They say never meet your idols. So back in the day i played on a mates dance track as a favour and it just happened to get in the charts top ten - fast forward we are on Top Of The Pops and because of the embracement I agree to do it providing I’m in disguise. So there we are and I’m dressed as a Blues Brother miming to this track and Santana is on the sound stage opposite playing three live tracks. Post run through he walks up to me and says “ Great guitar Player”. My gut instinct was to qualify myself and say “ No, Really, I can play!” But I hold my nerve look up at him and say “ Nice hat” he walks off. Crushed! Anyway at least I have the quote! 🤣
