Madame Web Reviews left a lot to be desired, but were far from the only time a movie has failed in recent time for the reason of a Hollywood girlboss. This has caused Disney to "retool" in horror as they blame the bigoted fans for not liking the ideas that have been force fed to them. But this goes deeper than just which actor plays a role. It's down to the values and messaging of entertainment, and are we going to use masculine morality, or something else? And while Disney may WANT to retool, may TRY to change direction. But can they do that with the same staff hired that caused the problems in the first place? Do they even KNOW what the audience wants, even begrudgingly? Or are Disney's hiring practices so hard baked into the company that there is no turning back anymore? Let me know your thoughts down below and as always, thanks for watching :)

It's like asking the BAD PEOPLE FROM GERMANY to be nice to Jewish people and pamper them. They're not going to change, this is a religion to them. Even if Bob Iger really wants to change, the activists he helped put into the workforce and lower and middle management won't let him. Just like they rebelled against Bob Chapek.

@@the_piper001 The majority of those who viewed it were still men. So women did not support their own movie. Just like with The Marvels. In general women don't like capesh1t movies, so maybe Hollywood should stop trying to ram a cube through a round hole and accept that this is a male genre. But you go ahead and play the moral high horse. As if we haters convinced the majority of the audience to give this movie a miss.

The problem isn't "the girl/woman who is the key to everything" aspect, as many series have done it and have been successful (take example of Japanese Anime like the ongoing "Apothecary Diaries" or "Frieren" both focusing on female main characters and both being highly popular).
The problem is the forced idea that men are the issues of all problems while woman are all great and the solution to all problems. That it's wrong for a woman to rely on a man and should either rely on themselves or other women only, and like you said "realizes she is awesome" and she is complete and perfect from start (and it's Men who are making them imperfect and dragging them down).
The biggest issue is that, in order to put Women on the high pedestal, what they are doing is bringing down the Men, by various means, rather than co-working.

If wanting films with "regressive gender stereotypes", means wanting women who are actually likable characters who think about something other than themselves, and men who aren't either stupid or evil, then sign me up for the "regressive gender stereotypes!"
Honestly! It amazes me how Hollywood can't write good female characters anymore. not just "good", in terms of with flaws and arcs and a personality, but "good", in terms of being morally good, thinking about something other than themselves, and developing actually strong, supporting relationships with other people (especially men.
People forget that back in the days of damsels in distress, one key attribute of the better written damsels, such as some of the classic doctor who assistance or princess Leia; not to mention original Snow white, is that they actually had to be decent people who wee, along with the hero would dam well want! @@spark300c I see what you mean, but the point I was making wasn't that we need more average, none-powered women in films (sword fighting Wendy in the stupid Peter pan remake was supposed to be average), but rather in the past when women played damsel type characters, because they were! the damsel character, IE the one whom the hero had the connection to and who would risk danger to save, they had to be likable.
Princess Leia stands up to Darth Vader's torture, shows deep concern for her rebels when she asks Obiwan for help in the message, mourns her planet and her father and attempts to deflect the empire, even before Luke Skywalker busts in, we already get that she's a hugely selfless person.
In the classic Doctor who story Robot, Sarah Jane shows compassion to the eponymous giant robot, so that when it goes berserk, not only does it spare her, but she's able to distract it.
In New who, Rose shows kindness to many aliens she meets, from the ood to the dalek!
The same goes for male characters too of course, one of the first things we see Aladdin do in the original disney film is hand off some of the bread he's just risked his life for, to some young orphans, however it's with female characters that we're really seeing the problem here!
Not just in lack of damsels, albeit it'd be good to have a heroic man save a woman again, (both women and men enjoy seeing that), but in lack of "good", female characters, good in terms of well written, but good in terms of not being rude, callous, or down right evil!
You can have a character be both a powerful warrior, and feminine and compassionate, Katara in the original last Airbender, Major Kira in Ds9 or buffy the vampire slayer are great examples, but it's the likability and selflessness that makes the audience identify with the characters, and that's something so many modern female characters have just plane lost!

As I said, whether it's Ripley, buffy the vampire slayer, Doctor who's companions like Sarah Jane, Ace or Jo grant, or heck original 1937 Snow white for that matter, the key difference in female characters of old, whether they were damsels being rescued or not, was that they tend to be likable, good hearted people who care about others and aren't just obsessed with power!

An actor can still do their job well and keep their politcs out of the job with good directing. The trouble is that a lot of the political activists are in producer and director and other executive roles on these projects. Their intent is to mix politics and art so that you can't keep them apart and there aren't enough people above them in authority to tell them its a bad idea. At least that's what I think.

What has surprised me is how many videos I have seen of late about people seeking a return to physical media like DVD and Blu-ray. Just a few months ago, I, too, began stockpiling DVDs of my favorite titles partly for fear that censorship would eliminate some of my favorites (e.g., Gone with the Wind, Gettysburg) and partly to save money by cancelling streaming services. I have a library with thousands of books, DVDs, and CDs plus games like chess, go, backgammon, scrabble, etc. I have enough entertainment to occupy me easily for the next 30 years, and I am definitely not alone in my sentiments. Hero actions are basicaly unwriten, and subconsciosly known by anyone, because they support life usualy! Even animals can be heroic, and understand when someone else is heroic, and helps for example. Its a pretty universal thing!!

'Even animals can be heroic' definitely rings true, even when said animal isn't one found in real life. Godzilla and Kong are both used in this manner (Godzilla I think has had it longer due to his Showa era self being full hero mode) in the monsterverse lately even if people criticize it for various reasons

Some birds reason prety well. And even fish can make friends and enemies.

Excellent analysis. This captures what I've been calling the "cultural Lysenkoism" that currently infests Hollywood (and just about everything) these days. Lysenko was a Communist agronomist in Stalin's Soviet Union who thought he knew better than the proven, natural ways of growing crops people have done for centuries. He was able to impose his pseudoscientific agricultural ideas onto the country, which led to catastrophic famine, of course. That's analogous for me to what's happening across the culture today with woke ideology.

The immorality of the show producers (writers, directors, showrunners etc.) makes it impossible for them to portray real heroes because they don't understand the concept of real heroism. 😀

There is nothing wrong with women lead films. Problem is, 99% of people making, writing and producing the films are doing it wrong. They are making these unlikable Mary-Sues, hiring people who care little to nothing about what they're working on while inputting their views into the project that have no business being there, they don't follow any of the source material of an IP, and they're too busy checking boxes to care about making a quality product that people want to see.
They're not making films for women. They're making films for themselves and their pitiful egos. As a woman, I'm not wasting my money on poorly written, misdirected, ego stroking garbage.

6:50 that is a VERY generous interpretation. As "representation" can go up in 2 ways. Attracting an audience.... and scaring people off. I put it to you that in fact 0 additional women saw the movie and in fact both the number of men and woman in absolute numbers declines. But the ratio of women and men that still saw it created a greater share of woman..

Don’t underestimate contraction of movies and tv due to all the DEI requirements. Somewhere at these companies is a high level MBA who’s figured out that you can’t turn a profit with all these restrictions. It would be like owning an NBA team and being told you have to have short white dudes on the roster. Someone’s going to figure out that’s not a winning strategy.

The problem is in how embedded this ideology is. I don't see a big studio being able to pivot while so many involved will push this crap to the bitter end. Smaller studios and where collapse is imminent would have a better chance of changing. By contrast the Iger Company has the resources to rumble on for some time, and is packed to the rafters with incompetents and ideologues who know their careers are finished if the business shifts to a for-profit model.

Err, I agree with most of this video, but there are a couple things. One, Agatha Harkness is an important character, giving her a show is called world building. I rather doubt the only character is going to be Agatha as what would the point if that be? In the comics she helped create Wanda’s twin babies. They might be using this show to introduce more Marvel characters. That is what I’d do.

    • @tsuumee4545
      @tsuumee4545 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

That's exactly what they did. Agatha will be accompanied by Billy Kaplan (Wiccan) and several other witches from the comics. They’re also introducing The Witches’ Road as part of the world building. Not to mention, meeting different types of witches and learning about their powers will also add to world building.

Sounds to me like Pearson is the guy they just give scripts to for a final touch-up, not because he is good, but because that is his job in the company. He is like the retailm manager who is put in to failing stores not to make them better, but so they can reassign the previous manager somewhere else.
