      I was just home for the holiday and saw one of my childhood friends I’ve known for 45 years. We were listening to good ikr 70’s rock and disco all night. She’s not a Taylor fan. But I put something on and she didn’t mind it. I then sent her 4 songs from evermore and she loved them all. I then sent her 4-5 from folklore and she loved those too. She’s now listened to all of evermore and all of folklore and wants me to send her more. She has loved it all! And she is shocked!

    I’m 52 and had never listened to her music until last year pandemic and she released folklore. I was really surprised and now I’ve listened to everything and really has blown me away. I’ve just been surprised. I’m not the biggest pop fan, but I like some, but her best songs are songs like this. She has taken her country storytelling roots and somehow integrated that with folk and pop and it just works. Keep in mind she writes all her songs. If I could suggest a few from her latest albums since 2020 for you to sample and see if you too are shooketh like I was:
    Evermore album (nominated for AOTY):
    1. Champagne problems
    2. Tolerate it
    3. Marjorie (about her grandmother)
    4. Ivy
    5. Evermore (ft bon iver)
    Folklore (won AOTY):
    1. My tears ricochet
    2. Exile (ft bon iver)
    3. Illicit Affairs
    Big Red Machine:
    1. Renegade
    Red (Taylor’s Version):
    1. Nothing New (from the Vault)
    2. State of Grace
    3. Treacherous
    Fearless (Taylor’s Version) (winner AOTY and the most awarded country album in country music history)
    1. Fearless
    2. Forever and always (piano version)
    She also inducted Carole King into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame a few weeks ago. She opened the ceremony paying tribute to her with Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow.

    Also, thank you for being open minded and listening to the song without any pre assumptions. It never gets old seeing people be shooketh at her talent. We’ve loved her for so long and have hated some of the singles she picks because they don’t always reflect the essence of the album, she outdid herself this time. Like someone else mentioned, there’s a lyric that connect to almost every single song in the album. This song is the heart of the album and I’ll never get tired of listening to this and all her songs.
    Hope you listen to the other songs that were recommended, even if you don’t post your reactions, it will be worth your time deep diving into one of the most prolific artists for generations to come 🧣
    Pay special attention to the Track 5 in each album, she has always made that track the most heartfelt and heartbreaking lyrics. Enjoy the journey 😊

    Ha! Same here. 52 year old man. Had never really listened to her, got into her Folklore album that came out last year (spectacular! Easily best album of last year) and then after all the hype on this checked it out. And I’m stunned. This is a song that will last decades. Instant classic.
    Oh… and it’s allegedly about her relationship when she was 19/20 with a decade older Jake Gyllenhaal. I highly recommend the short film of this she just released. Which she also directed. Well worth the time.

    I will be 60 next month. Taylor Swift is SO much more than your usual pop star writing pop songs. Believe it or not she sort of just blurted these lyrics out in a jam session, her mom asked the sound guy or someone if they recorded it, he had. She told this story on a late night talk show recently.

    just found you. Never seen so many older Swifties 'come out'. I'm 73 and have been a rabid fan since that amazing day in 2007 when I heard a young female voice sing Our Song. I was blown away just in the hearing, then discovered Taylor Swift and have since learned she wrote that song for her Freshman Year talent show. Anyway, as many people here have already said, Taylor has a huge discography. For sure there are the pop hits, some of which you've heard. But in between those and All Too Well (ATW; Swifties shorten a lot of her songs to the first letters of the title), are many, many, many songs you'll love hearing for the first time. I promise you'll never get used to her lyrical genius writing. And the Swifties will find you. That's another promise. We never tire of watching reaction videos. Besides the songs themselves, these videos are our oxygen.

  • @Kim-zm7dc
    @Kim-zm7dc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    She’s an amazing lyricist. This song is definitely based on a real past relationship of hers. All her albums are based on her own life experiences, except for most of Folklore and Evermore where most songs are not about her own experiences, but other people’s or fictional characters and situations she imagined.
    Someone here on the comment section said, and I have to agree, that the songs she releases as singles usually hurt her. Because those are usually her most poppy less lyrically rich songs. So most of what general audience hears is just those 2 tracks that come on the radio which are usually not fan favorites actually.

  • @luvstellauk
    @luvstellauk 2 ปีที่แล้ว +49

    The song is about her relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal at the time he was 30 and she was 21 (I believe) there are couple of references to the age thing in the lyrics "you said if we'd been closer in age maybe it would have been fine" and real oof one "I get older but your lovers stay my age" I believe he's now 40 and dating a 25 year old.

  • @rociozagone
    @rociozagone 2 ปีที่แล้ว +25

    Ok so here's the explanation of the "did the twin flame bruise paint you blue" line; it is tied to a lyric from her song "state of grace" (1st track from her album Red) which goes: "just twin fire signs, four blue eyes" meaning that Jake Gyllenhaal is a sagittarius, just like her.
    And "did the love affair maim you too?" is tied to her song "sad beautiful tragic" (also from her album Red): "we had a beautiful magic love affair. what a sad beautiful tragic love affair".
    I forgot to mention, when she says "it's supposed to be fun turning 21" it's because Jake didn't show up to her 21st birthday party after promising her that he would be there. She has a whole song about that, it's called "the moment I knew" in case you want to check it out. It's really sad but it's also a beautiful masterpiece, just like All Too Well.

    Thank you for giving Taylor a chance. as a grown up fan of hers since 2010 (i'm 32 yo) she definitely has the pop side and it's her single choices that hurt her in my opinion. she always chooses her worst songs on each album to be the singles and that's why the general public know her for the poppy hits. her deep cuts are way better.
    I recommend reacting to her albums 'folklore' and 'evermore' she recorded both these albums during quarantine in 2020 and they are folky/pop mature albums where she sings about addiction (the song this is me trying). her battle against her former record label (my tears ricochet) her grandfather experience in world war II relating this to covid essential workers (the song epiphany), a tribute song to her grandmother who was an opera singer (the song marjorie),singings about divorce (not hers. it's about her friend's divorce. the song happiness). these albums are really good.

      @@patsysreactions4024 Yay! seeing people who know nothing Taylor and giving her a real chance is one of the most exciting things to watch. of course not all of her albums suit every single person but the thing with Taylor is that each album of hers sound different than the previous one (except folklore and evermore - which she created them in mind of making them a 'sister albums' as put it). so there's something different for each one. just a really important note about folklore and evermore - these are her first albums where she wrote about stuff she made up in her mind. for example in folklore there's a trilogy of songs that tell the story of a teenagers love triangle. 3 characters: James (the guy), Betty (James's girlfriend) and Augustine (the other girl) who each song is sung from their prospective of that relationship. the song 'cardigan' is from the prospective of Betty. the song 'August' is from the prospective of Augustine and the song 'Betty' is from the prospective of James trying to apologize to Betty. and in these 3 songs there are lyrical parallels to each other. lyrics that show up in one song then come back at the last song etc. the song 'the last great american dynasty' is about Rebekah Harkness, who was the owner of Taylor's house back in the 50's and 60's and Rebekah was a patron of the arts, she was in the 'high society in that era and Taylor tells her story. which Taylor found interesting to write about.

    T Swift has so much versatility, people judge her based off of her singles, but her singles are her most pop and most basic tracks, the real stuff is in the albums
    if you like country sounds, fearless is your place
    if you like country ,rock sounds, speak now is your jam
    if country pop rock mix ,red is your jam
    if full on pop then 1989
    if pop + r&b/ hiphop influenece , reputation is there
    if pop + real good songwriting, lover
    if folk/indie/alternative music, folklore/ evermore are your albums

    She is an amazing performer, singer, musician, producer...but above all, she's the most talented songwriter of all time (in my view). She can write bout what she's going through & her feelings, but somehow, u can always relate to it with what u are/or have been going through in some period of ur life. She has written & produced about 199 songs (if im not mistaken) within 9 albums + 2 rerecorded albums. If u've time..try listen to her Folklore & Evermore album. All her albums are masterpieces stuff..from #1 to #7..the albums are mostly about her journey through experiencing life, love, heartbreaks, having good friends, enemies, best day with her mum & etc..she telling stories as she goes through it like when she's 16, 18, 20..& so on. Album #8 & #9 (Folklore & Evermore) are mostly bout other people lives.. Like i said, if u got time, have a listen to it..it worth ur time..😊

    I like how you didn't dismiss her just because she wasn't up your alley, and if you don't like her pop stuff (she started in country) maybe try her albums Folklore and Evermore- they are more folk/indie and most of the songs there are just like made up lore and stories that she is telling us. Though she hasn’t released Taylor’s Version of 1989 yet, there are a couple of songs that stand out in that album that I think you ought to listen to to get a glimpse of her genius song writing skills. Clean & Out Of The Woods & You Are In Love are such deep cut tracks. People pay too much attention to her singles and the popular tracks. She doesn’t get enough credit for this very reason. You need to go down the rabbit hole and discover her music and lyrics. You’ll discover why so many people love to hate her but also why she’s so underrated, though the tide is turning now and she’s getting more recognition that she deserves.

    Yes , it’s her past love story with Jake Glynhaal. The most toxic one I guess cause Jake is manipulative and narcissistic, and they’re both twin flames
