    Thanks for the review. I had a Triumph 650 Twin back in about 1960. The Bike you are riding there looks retro & reminds me of that Bike.

      Yes, I think they were trying to keep the styling as close to the late 50's Bonneville as possible with this one.

    I know this comment is very late, but I still want you to know that I appreciated this review tremendously.
    As a short rider, and beginner, you gave me confidence to tackle this old girl.
    I just bought this exact bike used, as my first bike, and was starting to doubt my decision.
    Thanks and TBH fine sir.

      Thank you very much for those kind words! It's always nice to hear when a video has been worth the effort put in. It's a good choice of first bike. Hope you enjoy it and have plenty of happy miles on it. TBH!

    I agree,it is a very pretty looker.It just doesn't quite "float my boat" as a modern 900 should be producing somewhat more power(my CBR 600 is over 23yrs old & had 105 BHP when new)I wonder how it might fare 2 up(with both of us +16 st)

    i think they should put a kickstart on it

    • @Phil480

      That would be a nice touch for authenticity. I had a little kick starter backup on my 2002 AY50. Got me out of trouble once when my battery went flat.

    Went by fast which means this was a good review. Bike needs a center stand and a grab bar. What was that black rubber piece on the center-bottom of the tank between the knee pads?

  • @SkeggyCruiser

    Lovely looking machine Phil, I wouldn't mind either that or the T120 both look the part and do the job fine, I've been looking at second hand modern Triumphs as a second bike but they're holding there money really well, nice Ride Review buddy, RSM8.

    • @Phil480
      @Phil480  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For the sake of £1500, I'd pick the T120 over the T100. I think it's worth it for the extra performance and the rain/road modes.
      They do seem to hold the value well, before I got the scrambler, the second hand ones with 2k miles on were only a few hundred less than what a brand new one costs.

    Great video. I have a question about your Drift camera. Would it be possible to mount it on the bike somehow, like on the handle bars? If it was on the handle bars would it see over the speedometer?

    • @Phil480
      @Phil480  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. Yes, Drift do various mounts including a handlebar mount. For it to see over the speedo may need some extra bits. The camera itself has a standard tripod thread in the side of it, so can be attached to the usual sort of photography equipment including those awful selfie sticks.
      So one way or another, you should be able to find a mounting option that suits your needs.

    Very nice job Phil ... you sound taller on video😂. if you and the Captain ever get over to the U.S. in August I will take you guys down to Bonneville Salt Flats with me and let you experience something different in terms of racing. I run a couple Thruxton (2009 & 2016).

    • @Phil480
      @Phil480  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jerry Adams I have always said a few of us in the U.K. should pitch in and hire a plane and get Captain to fly us over to the states, that would be a great trip!

    • @justdad53
      @justdad53 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Phil480 The salt seems to be disappearing at an alarming rate. I have gone three times since 2011 and this year's salt was dangerous but if you and the Captain ever want to experience land speed racing I would be willing to take you on as a part of my team and give it another go. Just missed out on 200 mph this aboard a Kawasaki ZX1400R.. I don't think I will try that again. Let me know.

    How can it be a classic when it's brand new and why does it have a Union Jack motif on the timing case when its made in Thailand?

    • @Phil480
      @Phil480  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a modern classic, lots of manufacturers do these classic looking bikes but with modern technology. The T100 has been around since the 60's.
      It's only called a Union Jack when the flag is at sea. Otherwise it is just called the Union Flag ;)
      Either way, it's a British company, and they still make bikes here in the UK as well as Thailand and another somewhere else in the world, I forget where. My 2015 Scrambler came out of the Hinckley factory.

  • @davidhamilton506

    I'd like to see the T100's front and rear mudguards painted in the same colour combination as the tank, the center stipe in the orange with gold pinstripes either side of that. Like the early Bonnevilles of the 60s/70s. Also, does the UK issue a smaller rear number plate as an option?. I feel this size for a motorcycle is way too large...

    • @Phil480
      @Phil480  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think most would agree with you about the size of the UK number plate. Unfortunately the law says what size it should be and what size the lettering should be etc. People do buy smaller plates. Although it is illegal, it is unlikely that you would get pulled over for it unless you were riding dangerously or you are unlucky enough to encounter a bored policeman.

    • @davidhamilton506
      @davidhamilton506 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the feedback Phil, I was merely curious as I'm from Australia and our plates are small. In another lifetime I rode a 1959 Triumph Thunderbird. Later in 1967, I bought a new Yamaha YDS3 250 two stroke. I loved that bike for it's lightness and easy handling and surprising amount of torque off the line. I also liked the fact that it had it's own signature exhaust note, a deep hollow sounding tone that gave of it's best under full acceleration accompanied by a blue smokescreen. The electric blue metallic and pearlescent white paint was in itself, a stand out on this model. Then fast forward to 1982/83, I bought a new Honda 250, which was also a top bike to ride. First bike I owned that had mag wheels. Warp speed to the present day, and I'm now seriously looking at the Triumph T120 Bonneville, that may some day soon now sit in the garage. Cheers and thanks again for your reply...

      They are nice, and you are probably paying a bit extra for the name. For £800 less, you can get the Street Twin which is pretty much the same bike, just a bit more modern styled. Otherwise, I'm not sure what the difference is.

    You don't mention how does the new T100 stands up against your Scrambler. ?

    • @Phil480
      @Phil480  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was purposely avoiding comparing the T100 to my Scrambler, I'm saving that for when the new Scrambler comes out in a few months time. Here are the main comparisons:
      As with the Street Twin, the T100 does have it's advantages over the old Scrambler, such as the ride by wire throttle, ABS and switchable traction control. Also a bit more torque. T100 benefits from a 10k mile servicing interval, where as the old air cooled Bonneville engine has a 6k mile service interval.
      However, whilst that is all good, I do find the Scrambler has more character and just simply feels like more of a fun ride. With it lacking the above features, it feels more old school and back to basics.
