I'm a Belgium born national, had a Belgium company from 2017 to 2019. Since 2019 I also started a company in Malta. Whilst it has it's benefits, I don't consider Malta a "tax haven" by far. Certain unknown things that aren't discussed, make me regret taking the decision of moving everything to Malta. One example is the mandatory corporate audits and expensive accounting. Before anyone is wondering, yes I did shop around for CPA and audit firms to work at the highest quality whilst also being the lowest cost. My first year Maltese accounting and audit expenses were easily over €24.700 in total, I didn't even pay any tax yet. If I would have turned over the same revenue in Belgium then I would have paid around €21.000 in taxes and about 5400€ in accounting expenses. There are numerous tax advantages in Malta but people calling it a "tax haven" are so dead wrong. FYI : Yes I also physically moved to Malta. If you want a nicer part to live I would suggest Lija.
You went with one of the bigger international firms or a local one for accounting? I also moved to Malta from the Netherlands about 1.5 years ago but I was actually by the low cost of incorporation and accounting.
@@OffshoreCitizen appreciate the reply! Been a follower for a year and a half and watch most of your videos! It's also because of you that I dared to make the decision to move to Dubai
If you move to Malta you only pay tax on money you remit to Malta (practically 5k Euro per year flat tax). It is absolutely a tax haven. You just did the wrong move and opened a Maltese company, which is expensive and not worth it. Don't blame the place for your own bad decisions
Funny my Lord. Glad you getting the steps in. Malta is lovely just banking makes me avoid it as an onshore option. Would move there in the morning, but the boss says no 😂
Happy birthday Michael For the fast-track scheme, they say after 1 year, you will be eligible for the maltese citizenship but how many times during this year you have to be physically in the country?
@@OffshoreCitizen Your "Lord" title is a well known scam. You cannot get a "Lord" title by owning 1 feet of land (through Established Titles). And, btw. YOU DO NOT OWN ANY LAND in Scotland!
I would love to see a video about setting up a company in the Canary Islands. What's the requirements, advantages and challenges. A corporate tax rate of 4% and VAT of 7% for some scenarios sounds competitive.
For Citizenship by Investment, what is the minimum stay requirement? I wouldn't necessarily want my tax residency to change to Malta, but the Citizenship/Passport is something that would be very useful. Is it sufficient enough to have a property there, and to spend maybe 2-4 months per year there, instead of 183 days?
Great content / wanderlust inducing videos as usual. Question for you. I am setting up a remote online agency and have a few staff all over the map. In the next few months I think I will need to set up a company but where would you suggest? I currently live in Panama with permanent residency. Banking here sucks lol.

Great content. One question I’m struggling to find the answer to - if you are UK based and decide to apply for the Global Residence Programme in Malta. Would you be still liable for UK taxes on UK based income / capital gains / dividends or would you be exempt under the double tax treaty for foreign income? Ie the income generated in the UK, if it is remitted to Malta, is that tax free due to the Maltese tax regime or liable to UK taxes? Thank you for the content!!! 🙏
Question, I am American but my wife is Venezuelan. I read that Venezuelans are banned from the Malta citizenship by investment program. Does that mean I won’t be able to participate in this program due to my wife’s passport or the ban on nationalities only applies to the main applicant? I also thought what if my wife renounces her citizenship and we invest in a Caribbean passport such as Antigua. Could we then do this. We currently live in Dubai but I am interested in going to Europe. Preferably Malta to get citizenship in a year or so or Hungary with their new program. I haven’t renounced U.S citizenship yet but I may in the next couple of years.

Thanks for your view. I think Cyprus is better. Malta is to small so everything is more expensive
Malta corporate bureaucracy is definitely expensive yes.
But for certain income especially investment income it can be a great tax haven

So there are 'capital gains EUR' vs 'income EUR'? lol. How would they know if the remittance funds come from capital gains and not income?
You need to back it up with the accurate documentation, contracts, etc.
Incorporation in Malta better than incorporating in Cyprus? Does Malta subject to VAT?
All the EU has VAT
Much easier to form companies in Cyprus than Malta and costs less but each has different tax considerations
You should try traffic during pick of touristic season, you would change your mind 🤣
Haha sounds plausible. What are some other good/bad things you'd point out about the island?

Just a question, why does a scheme exists for EU citizens ? Surely workers and their families can just move. Is it for retirees ?
Which scheme are you referring to?
@@OffshoreCitizen Is Malta CBI available for EU Citizens?
@@OffshoreCitizen At about 5:19 you say that there are annually renewed residencies, and that there is one for EU people.
