If you have the chance go to a restaurant in Birgu called 'tal-petut' it is the best restaurant which serves real authentic Maltese food and it is delicious as it serves a bunch of bunch for a fixed price

Then there is the more traditional variety simply known as "pastizz" or "pastizz tal-isfiljurata" which is made out of a more flaky pastry. I'm Maltese by the way and justed happened to stumble upon your channel. Great stuff & keep up the good work.
If you visited Imdina and Rabat without buying Maltese pastizzi from Is-Serkin, you really missed a great opportunity!! That snack bar makes the most delicious pastizzi on the island.
@@oh0my in most of the local pastizzi shop throughout all of malta which the shops are usually called sphinx (you can find them in Cospicua, Rahal Gdid, Fgura, Has Zabbar, Marsaskala and loads more places) and you will find almost in every locality a place which they sell pastizzi, and also the best pastizi are the traditional one, not the round ones that they tried ... and for the best pastizzi there is a shop in rabat(next to mdina) it's called crystal palace, it is also knows as "tas serkin" if you ask any local they will tell you were it is , maybe they are a bit more expensive 50-60c but im not 100% sure. hope this helps :)
@@NehajThak It depends what you are after and which area you are staying .. you should try for sure maltese traditional dishes like fenek moqli (fried rabbit) and stuffat tal bebbux (snails in traditional maltese tomatoes sauce) which sounds not apetiting because it has snails in it but its really really good. and there is a restaurant in Mgarr but i forgot there name which serves these maltese dishes and there is another one in Senglea tal Barklor (tried and tested myself) :) and it depends on what you are after, there are some good restaurants in marsaxlokk (fisherman's village) which specializes in fresh fish, and then for me there are some good all around restaurants in Kottonera area (the three Cities) ,mostly Senglea and Birgu waterfront. and don't forget to try the local pastizzi (my fav the ricotta ones :P ) which you can find them almost everywhere, and the best ones are bought from local small pastizerias .

quick tip from a local :) Country roads like the one you drove through are normally used by farmers to get to/from their fields. There are usually better arterial roads around to get you to your destination, but if you have to drive through a country road make sure to do so very carefully and slowly especially near bends where you can't see what's ahead, as you can easily find someone driving at you in the opposite direction :)
You guys went for classic tourist stuff, food wise. You should ask the locals where they eat. There are many places that look like they fall apart but have amazing food.
Exactly. I m Maltese and what they ate is not authentic Maltese cuusine. Should try restaurants in villages like Mgarr, Bahrija and Dingli. Nothing posh but definitely traditional food.
Last year we made our first trip to Malta; Kinnie, cisk, food and boat trips. What an amazing place Malta is! We ate in an amazing steakhouse in St.Julians. Looking forward to going back soon and going on more boat rides and eating more glorious food !

There are a few annual Maltese events held in east London and Waterlooville, near Portsmouth, where hot Maltese food is served and Maltese produce is sold. There is also an annual Malta Day black-tie dinner, held every September.

As im from Malta my favorite traditional food is the Rabbit because even in the summer you can eat , You paid too much for the parking as even with 50 cents he will be ok . The maltese sausage has alot of herbs and spices . I love seeing videos about My home country and it very historic , well Thank you its a very good video!

I am a Maltese person, I live in Malta. in Gozo actually which is a smaller island next to Malta and I'm really happy that you liked our foods and views. if you ever come again I would highly recommend coming to Gozo and try some of the stuff here.
I was in Malta probably around the same time as you guys. Stayed at the same hotel, ate at some of the cafes your featured. . Malta's a Wonderful place, fantastic food, very chilled out place! Easily One of the most beautiful places I've ever visited!

I was in Malta again last month :) Gotta love their food! You over-payed for a lot of what you tried though! 95c for a pastizzi is steeeeep! They're usually 30-40c!
@@razeroforion4959 it's true that these one cost more but still it's pricey. Normally are sold 10c more. Probably it cost that price because in Valletta.
@@TheTravelerJunkie It's more expensive because it's at Cordina. However they are delicious and also it's probably one of the very few places that you get a full Rikotta filling, not mixed with smida.

I fell in love with Malta by reading history and seeing pictures and videos, but this video really amped up my desire to visit! I wonder if September is a good time of year to visit?
This video made my heart happy. I'm Maltese and this just made me happy. I just wanted to mention a few things that you guys could have enjoyed more. The Pastizzi that you ate arent the original. They are similar but the ones that you buy from literally shops in the streets are way much better. Especially the peas one. Also , the pastini. If you guys bought them from a simple grocer , you could have got the maltese traditional ones with sugar paper and peanuts/almonds on top which come with a cherry on top aswell if you prefer that. Also the rabbit with gravy is just one of our favourite dishes EVER. Thats the maltese traditional Rabbit stew that you could have got with potatoes as well. Valletta has great stuff but if i where you , i would have visited some villages aswell because they really hold onto tradition and keep the recipes very old school. The best time you should have come to malta is during the summer so you could experience the village / city feasts. Those are the best thing ever.

Near the parking at Medina there is a place called Crystal Palace and he serves the best pastizzi in malta and the tea in the glass.. very traditional in Malta.. you should have tried, the bebbux ( snails), imqaet , helwa ta tork and the best hobza biz zejt..

@@oh0my in most of the local pastizzi shop throughout all of malta which the shops are usually called sphinx (you can find them in Cospicua, Rahal Gdid, Fgura, Has Zabbar, Marsaskala and loads more places) and you will find almost in every locality a place which they sell pastizzi, and also the best pastizi are the traditional one, not the round ones that they tried ... and for the best pastizzi there is a shop in rabat(next to mdina) it's called crystal palace, it is also knows as "tas serkin" if you ask any local they will tell you were it is , maybe they are a bit more expensive 50-60c but im not 100% sure. hope this helps :)

@@NehajThak It depends what you are after and which area you are staying .. you should try for sure maltese traditional dishes like fenek moqli (fried rabbit) and stuffat tal bebbux (snails in traditional maltese tomatoes sauce) which sounds not apetiting because it has snails in it but its really really good. and there is a restaurant in Mgarr but i forgot there name which serves these maltese dishes and there is another one in Senglea tal Barklor (tried and tested myself) :) and it depends on what you are after, there are some good restaurants in marsaxlokk (fisherman's village) which specializes in fresh fish, and then for me there are some good all around restaurants in Kottonera area (the three Cities) ,mostly Senglea and Birgu waterfront. and don't forget to try the local pastizzi (my fav the ricotta ones :P ) which you can find them almost everywhere, and the best ones are bought from local small pastizerias .

quick tip from a local :) Country roads like the one you drove through are normally used by farmers to get to/from their fields. There are usually better arterial roads around to get you to your destination, but if you have to drive through a country road make sure to do so very carefully and slowly especially near bends where you can't see what's ahead, as you can easily find someone driving at you in the opposite direction :)
You guys went for classic tourist stuff, food wise. You should ask the locals where they eat. There are many places that look like they fall apart but have amazing food.
Exactly. I m Maltese and what they ate is not authentic Maltese cuusine. Should try restaurants in villages like Mgarr, Bahrija and Dingli. Nothing posh but definitely traditional food.

Last year we made our first trip to Malta; Kinnie, cisk, food and boat trips. What an amazing place Malta is! We ate in an amazing steakhouse in St.Julians. Looking forward to going back soon and going on more boat rides and eating more glorious food !
The best pastizzi in Malta has got to be Crystal Palace in Mdina! Missing Malta and pastizzis already. Anyone knows how I can get them in London?

There are a few annual Maltese events held in east London and Waterlooville, near Portsmouth, where hot Maltese food is served and Maltese produce is sold.
There is also an annual Malta Day black-tie dinner, held every September.

It's amazing to see these videos of our tourists enjoying the Maltese islands.. usually we underestimate the place and due to our busy lives, we do not tend to fully enjoy our beautiful hidden gem. Thanks to you, these videos make me enjoy Malta as a foreigner or tourist. Also, you'd need a full month to truly experience the whole island haha, it offers too much!

As im from Malta my favorite traditional food is the Rabbit because even in the summer you can eat , You paid too much for the parking as even with 50 cents he will be ok . The maltese sausage has alot of herbs and spices . I love seeing videos about My home country and it very historic , well Thank you its a very good video!

I was in Malta probably around the same time as you guys. Stayed at the same hotel, ate at some of the cafes your featured. . Malta's a Wonderful place, fantastic food, very chilled out place! Easily One of the most beautiful places I've ever visited!

I'm going to get my fatigued tail end up at this hour of 3:30, shower & drive to the 24 hour grocery store...to get some food. You guys did this for me, so "Thank You" ever so much for the "Energy" you sent to me. I soooo appreciate it my friends from afar! I'm a widow...otherwise my Husband would of made sure I/WE had enough food etc to eat. A PETSCAN HOURS LATER, AFTER THEY SENT US TO EMERGENCY...SHOWED HE HAD CANCER 4 PLACES IN HIS LIVER, A SPOT IN HIS PANCREAS & A SPOT IN HIS BRAIN. THEY GAVE HIM 30 MONTHS TO LIVE. NOBODY COULD BELIEVE IT! HE'D ONLY BEEN NOT FEELING WELL FOR A WEEK. HECWAS SEVERLY FATIGUED & HE KEPT SAYING HIS HANDS & HIS FEET HURT HIM. UP TO THIS POINT, I WAS THE ONE WHO WAS HOME FOREVER WITH AN INOPERABLE BACK/SPINAL INJURY... FROM A PREVIOUS CAR ACCIDENT WHICH WE WON & SETTLED OUT OF COURT...BUT I COULD NOT HAVE BACK SURGERY...BECAUSE ID OF DIED. IT WAS TOO RISKY & WAAAY TOO COMPLICATED...NINE DIFFRENT DOCTORS ALL SAID THE SAME THING. I was in Malta again last month :) Gotta love their food! You over-payed for a lot of what you tried though! 95c for a pastizzi is steeeeep! They're usually 30-40c!
those are different in shape, the other type costs around 30 40 cent so thats why hehe
@@razeroforion4959 it's true that these one cost more but still it's pricey. Normally are sold 10c more. Probably it cost that price because in Valletta.
It's not a 'Pastizzi' it's a 'Pastizz'.
@@TheTravelerJunkie It's more expensive because it's at Cordina. However they are delicious and also it's probably one of the very few places that you get a full Rikotta filling, not mixed with smida.

This video made my heart happy. I'm Maltese and this just made me happy. I just wanted to mention a few things that you guys could have enjoyed more. The Pastizzi that you ate arent the original. They are similar but the ones that you buy from literally shops in the streets are way much better. Especially the peas one. Also , the pastini. If you guys bought them from a simple grocer , you could have got the maltese traditional ones with sugar paper and peanuts/almonds on top which come with a cherry on top aswell if you prefer that. Also the rabbit with gravy is just one of our favourite dishes EVER. Thats the maltese traditional Rabbit stew that you could have got with potatoes as well. Valletta has great stuff but if i where you , i would have visited some villages aswell because they really hold onto tradition and keep the recipes very old school. The best time you should have come to malta is during the summer so you could experience the village / city feasts. Those are the best thing ever.

Wassim Ajili zammit is a derivation of zam id which in arabic means hold hands so handshake or friendship. We dont have Maki as a surname here. Cheers

Near the parking at Medina there is a place called Crystal Palace and he serves the best pastizzi in malta and the tea in the glass.. very traditional in Malta.. you should have tried, the bebbux ( snails), imqaet , helwa ta tork and the best hobza biz zejt..
and as you no doubt discovered Malta is a good place to bring kids with you no matter how young as the Maltese are very family friendly
