This video i Bought a truck for 300 bucks without looking at it and this is what i found. its been sitting for years and i didnt know what to expect. enjoy
Truly one of the greatest most reliable engines produced in the history of time. Simple, 2 vacuum lines and not much wiring, virtually nothing to fail. Just replace the door hinge pins and bushings every 10 oil changed and you'll have a "till death do you part" truck. Hopefully you can put at least another 300,000.00 miles on it.
May your Father Rest in Peace Isaac…your dad look like a real cool man and I know he was because he had to cool sons you and your brother…stay strong and remember your dad will always be looking after you.
I got a 98 Sonoma for like 500 and it's a compact truck, yours is a full size and has a V8 for 300. Thats a great find for a truck, people would want like 3k for something like that I bet. Basket case or not lol.
8:10 That's the quality of the 1988-1999 Chevy throttle body injected 350s after sitting for years with 300,000 miles. These are the best trucks Chevy ever made in my opinion.
My bet is they were running water, not coolant, and it froze, cracking the rear freeze plug. It also happened once before, and that's why the front freeze plug got replaced.
I bought a 95 Taurus once that had been parked untouched for 7 years got it home tossed a battery in it and it fired up and drove down the road with zero issues ran great even on 7 year old fuel
I have a 1990 C1500 with a 5.7. 217k oil burning miles. Fires right up every day and runs great. I just pull the plugs and clean them once in a while...I'll be rebuilding a core engine for it soon. Your dipsticks for the oil and trans fluid are at the front, which makes me think that engine/trans is out of a G-van. Just something I noticed. Love these trucks! Mine came from Alabama so it has no rust, and one (poorly done) repaint. But, she still gets looks, comments, and thumbs up all over. Running OBS for $300? Yup...that's a deal.
Excellent video Issac :) also bet the frost plugs in back of block by flywheel need replacement to also rust clean up put 100 ml of differential fluid 80w90 in rad it help plus lube up motor even the water plus clean core out rad too help thermostat last longer than normal change time! For first Engine Oil change do get a bottle of Gunk Red Seal Engine Flush treatment too run in Engine Oil for 5 mins Park before flush treatment with Engine run and plus bottle in crankcase too ! Do new oil filter too! Plus changes Engine PCV Valve too also air filter too and for Transmission get Wynne black bottle of Trans-Medic plus add to Transmission it help out! Differential fluid change and Yoke on front axle seal change to so ruin axle ! Fuel try put 89 octane gas with 5 % Ethonal with black or Grey STP Total Treatment fuel injection and carb cleaner in fuel tank every month too ! Check Alternator if need new or rebuilt to and Starter too ! For Spark plugs use AC Delco LT44 platinum type plugs too with High Suppression wires set ! Get new Supertine belt too if get change and then have super truck to drive!
She looks like a perfect candidate for a sleeper build. That's my plan for my 1994 gmc light k2500 (2500 with 6 bolt hubs) cab corners and box sides to fix the rust. She is a very basic day cab work truck
I bought an Izuzu Hombre Pick up same circumstance Brother of a friend died . Mom got tired of the truck sitting in the driveway Sold it to me sight unseen for $400 bucks. It was purple ! I drove it as my daily driver for 4 yrs. Traded it at car lot. still see it around town 5 yrs later !
i think you got yourself a nice truck for 300 bucks. i hope you plan on some more videos on this because im curious if it was in fact the freeze plug that was leaking. if you dint have that chery 85 i'd say keep it whole and fix it up. but nothing beats a gorgeous square body. love your videos isaac. see you on the next one.
Always check or test the cooling system with water, before adding g coolant! That way, you don’t make a huge mess and waste coolant on the ground. The rubber core plug should have been the first indication of major leaks. I betting it’s got blown headgaskets at a minimum. A rusty frozen thermostat too. A good parts truck for $300 bucks though. Nice score man. Hopefully, not all rusted out. Take care.
just a question because I'm no mechanic and am not all that sure on this but wouldn't a blown head gasket cause the oil on the dipstick to look milky or cloudy ? the oil looked dark but not terrible just old.🤔
@@kaptainkmann7808 not all the time. I’m a 25+ year mechanic. Might not be blown, but if it is, it’s likely blown into a water jacket and not an oil port. Corrosion and electrolysis work fast. It’s just my “two cents” is all.
@@SilvasSmallMining that makes sense and as I read your reply I thought about that coolant sitting for 7 years ! If it is blown at least it's out and not in. I'd say the odds are your right.
@@kaptainkmann7808 a blown headgasket can go 5 ways: 1. out the side of the head. 2. from combustion chamber to a coolant passage (common, this is when your cooling system will see excessive high pressure. Rock hard coolant hoses) 3. from combustion chamber to an oil passage (excessive pressure in the sump , in EGR and crank breather. Blue oil vapors out the exhaust) 4. from coolant passage to oil passage (common, this is when you see oil and coolant mixing and form 'mayonaise' deposits 5. from combustion chamber to another combustion chamber next to it (this is rare but it can happen. It's harder to diagnose without doing compression testing. In any case it will make the engine run bad, low power and usually a CEL on the dash. No 'mayonaise', no blue smoke out the exhaust) under the oil cap, in the radiator and coolant expansion tank and on the dipstick)
IMO, that interior is not a 300K cloth belonging to a contractor of any kind! Loved the 700R4 with the shift corection kit, Corvette servo with the back shaved flush. Installed it in a 1983 Crew Cab 2500 I used to own.
Ok You have to get your hands on a 2000 to 2003 Volkswagen TDI 1.9 diesel motor or donor car with one in it manual gear box. Oh the project ideas these motors are torque monsters and bulitt proof. I have owned a 2002 now since new and I swear it runs stronger today than brand new.
Brother I had a 89 red extended cab 350 5 speed that I got in 05 as my 1st truck. That truck took me to texas while hauling my cj7 crawler and gsxr750 all the way from St Louis. No sweat and got like 10 mpg doing it. It was a great truck for the price.
Back in 1988 my Dad bought a gmc/Chevy truck 1st year body style it was a POS GM kept send him parts for things that would break. Without him asking. Oil dip stick window button hood latch cable...
My brother just got one of these for free. 4.3 with a Muncie 4 speed with o/d in it for free because the guy wanted it gone. Clutch throw out bearing was bad and radiator needed to be flushed bad so I replaced the throw out bearing and flushed his radiator. Came with a bed full of ceramic floor tiles 🤣
Nice gm accessory cup holder those are hard to find in good shape. make sure you transfer that to a truck you are driving all the time. goes on like a french cleat to the dash with 2 screws in the bottom.
Think about it Ike it has the van transmission dipstick in it. They replaced motor and the transmission from the same van. And most vans have 400 turbo in them.
I was given an 89 K2500 4x4 with 350 and bad 700R4. Got another trans for $300. Onl 7:34 y had 120K on the engine. Replaced pass door glass, a fender, window glass and sliding window.
Hell Yeah sbc life gotta love a 350 I have a 94 It runs like shit and the shop fucked up the transmission But it will still start right up and 4x4 works good lol
Pressure wash it put some seal sweller in the power stearing pump and add more power steering fluid too. the millionare fishing reel is worth some money . It runs perfectly. You will like the back seat man they are handy so drive it. Bet needs wheel cylinders. whole truck is good. It was a good truck until you keep doing the TH-cam power break and tear it up.
was going to say this but you beat me to it my state it was still this color until a couple years ago they change it to White because when they go to resell them with them being this color no one wants to buy them so they change it to White like a bunch of states have done in the last 10 years
its a chevy so yea you got taken. LOL i had one V6 5 speed and i loved it. ended up building a 434 SB. but that Rad might be before and the reason they replaced the engine
Needs a little work to the engine, put a new rear end in it, a new Bluetooth radio and speakers and a new flowmaster 40 series muffler on it with a high flow cat
SBCs are never going to be hard to come by, Ike. At least not in your lifetime. Waste of time to hoard them. They're EVERYWHERE for $100 for cores to $750 for complete, running ones. No one wants 'em but Gen X'ers like you and me. And Gen X'ers like you and me already have 3-7 of them sitting under our workbench.
The best car ever bought was $300 lasted me six years of driving in LA traffic it was a 2000 Toyota Camry with a 2.2 L. It had 250,000 miles. ended up selling it to the junkyard for 300 bucks.❤️
It's a little more work, but I'd pull the motor out of it and replace all the freeze For what you paid for it, pull the motor replace all freeze plugs Three hundred dollars you gotta steal
If you bought a running and driving truck for $300, you definitely won! Even if it has problems, the parts are worth more than you paid.
You kept saying truck is In bad shape it’s in better shape than 99% of the older trucks on the road here in Massachusetts you got a good truck
Up here in north central Wisconsin, too. Those obs trucks are far and few between nowadays. And the ones you see aren't in that good of shape.
Good choice, There's still a TON of parts available on the OBS Chevy truck and they are relatively cheap. You'' have that back on the road in no time.

Chevys run forever. Sometimes you win my brother. God has blessed you
Everyone in the Rust belt, thinking you're crazy. I'm glad I'm in Oklahoma.

Those long trucks ride REAL nice on the highway, that long wheelbase and all. They just suck trying to park, bad turning radius.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that uses transmission fluid for power steering fluid
I bought... Oh s*it here we go again....🤣
I love these OBS videos man. What a cool find! I'd drive that bad boy!
Good buy so far
LETS GO IKE!! Be safe and drive careless! 😜
Love the wine almost supercharged 😅

Thanks for the like Ike 😃

OMG Isaac that's a pretty cool deal for $300. There is some really cool part you can use on the other truck Wow what a deal!!
You can’t keep an old gmc down. Good old pickup truck. Good video 😊
Haven't seen a video from this dude in ages and he showed up on my feed.

$300??? Good buy no matter what, parts alone. 😊😊😊😊
I bought an 88 Scottsdale with the 305/700r4 combo. Stripped down interior for 300 too. Just needed a brake overhaul to be roadworthy
Wow great deal! I've used far worse trucks for years. Little fix up (maybe a lot of fix up😁) and that is worth $3k - $4k probably. 👍👍
Issac you're the first person I've ever heard say you love a 700r4. Keep up the good work buddy
Hey I need those wheels for my trailer! Chevy on Chevy from the front of my van to my car hauler 😂 good find. I love a good parts car.
I got a rubber expandable freeze plug in my truck that I installed 8 plus years ago. I gotta be honest, ive had zero problems from it!

The TBI may not be a great platform for hot rods, but they are reliable.
It's a chevy.... take it straight to pick-a-part! 😂
That's awesome brother cool 😊
Think about it Ike it has the van transmission dipstick in it. They replaced motor and the transmission from the same van. And most vans have 400 turbo in them.
My van had a 700r4 in it
Replaced the engine not the transmission
If you are ever in Powell, Tennessee I have a Silverado W/T grill to donate to this rebuild
I was given an 89 K2500 4x4 with 350 and bad 700R4. Got another trans for $300. Onl 7:34 y had 120K on the engine. Replaced pass door glass, a fender, window glass and sliding window.
i knew it was a runner from the start. I have an 1989, 350 4 speed. Ours is a farm truck with a flatbed now. Good bones right there.
Might want to get that "cough syrup flask" out of there before some officer at a checkpoint finds you guilty of having a cough.
Hell Yeah sbc life gotta love a 350 I have a 94
It runs like shit and the shop fucked up the transmission
But it will still start right up and 4x4 works good lol

That green is US Dept of Forestry green...
I wasn't even surprised that it started right up
Pretty good score
You scored when you bought that gem isaac
Don't forget to check the rpo codes in the gm vehicles you buy always a go to for me
For $300, something that starts, runs and drives, it ain't bad, apart from the not holding water bit, but that's just technicalities... :P
Part it out and keep what you want hell ya!

Smokin' deal.
As long as the paperwork is good and it's not stolen
Damn! You could bury a body in that tool box! 😮😱
If 1 freeze plug went bad, the rest of them are ( probably ) ready to fail also...
Score ! 👍
Cool . Rip mister past truck owner
This is the tool box..... 🤣🤣🤣
💯
for the price hell yeah! the flask is probably worth about 50 LOL.
Imma go out on a limb and say since it’s got the van transmission dipstick then the transmission probably came from the same vehicle the motor did
GMT400 w/5.7 =
Great truck
Could that have been a block heater installed at one time?
I'm thinking if it was a head gasket there would have been water in the cylinders and it would have been stuck
Look at that a tool box you can actually reach. Back when trucks where usable not 6 feet off the ground
At $300 it would still be worth a rebuild kit.
1989 350 should be 4 bolt main
Lol I had the 96 ext cab 1500 short bed I got for 300 bucks an drove it for years
