If you drape the whip of the stinger over your shoulder you can set it to help keep your arm position and it will reduce weight on your hand. That's especially helpful welding one handed.

you were very clear on this video I'm glad i found it. practicing for my 3/4 g and I have to say you have to be one of the best I've seen at explaining the basics such as where the rod needs to go and how to weave properly. everyone says u can't weave unless it's very minute u mainly wanna be running stringers and that advice made almost no sense until this video where you actually showed how small those weaves rly are their barely there. can't wait to try some of these techniques tonight.

The white board is tool that remains an awesome format to state the task, standard, and conditions. The board shows the welding patterns and makes very clear what is covered. You identify some of the common mistakes and its great. Along the way you provide detailed performance steps to successfully create the desired welds.
    Really nice. TY

  • @daveross8

Nice explanation. Just learning on the farm and am amazed by how precise welding must be. One thing I find kinda funny is that almost without exception welding instructors say to pause for two seconds and then show how it’s done and say “one two” in half a second. No one says, “one thousand and one, one thousand and two.” 🙂. But I appreciate why (I think), because as I’ve been learning, one of the most difficult things to do is slow the heck down. Especially vertical up 7018 (which I want to be able to do well because welding tractor stuff rarely presents stuff on a welding table), where the slag is flowing a lot… just makes me run away uphill and wreck everything. Practice! Lots of scrap metal with beads on it around here!

I'm in the same vote. . . .learning how to weld here in my shop with the "buzz box" arc welder using the 1/8" 6013 & 1/8" 7018 stick! My brother, who's been welding for close to 25-30yrs, has taught me the initial startup & basics so that I can go out here in the shop & practice EVERY DAY! I have alot of practice beads laid out on scrap, scrap pieces welded together, I have square & round tubing that I've cut in half with the chop saw & welded back together, I have holes that I've filled in with puddle, & I have already built a tiny, flatbed, toy trailer about a 1ft 1/2 long out of angle & square tubing! I wannuh learn this verticle up as well as down! I also wannuh learn how to do the whole mig/tig wire feed welding. Im having a blast out here in the shop, practicing & learning/ learnikg & practicing😃😃😃! Happy welding to ya my friend. . . .PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT, HEY???😃😃😃👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
