      I cal mine the test monitor bc teaching isn’t happening 😂 he sits at desk. Says go weld. Looks at are lines at end and says looks good 😂😂 my computer lost its security password to log in to school internet. He said idk 🤷‍♂️ the high school kids that had welding offered in high-school are helping my old ass. Such a waste of money. I could have bought a welding machine and learned on my own at this rate.

      It is not that hard, just keep short arc. Short arc or long arc is your voltage, if you keep it short just like he mention in video "feel" the plate, it means try to keep same short arc thought your weld. First try long arcing on some plate and see how it looks after, than try short arc. You will see "wild" arc and that electricity it is not pointed where you want it to be, than try to keep short arc and you will get smooth arc whitout spater and wildness. I hope my English is correct, sorry if it is not.

    • @robertstein4128
      @robertstein4128 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's common when you first start out. One of the best ways to learn.
      to move with the weld is when you start and prop yourself up, prop yourself about to where you plan on finishing the weld instead of where you start the weld. Then you can reach back when you start the weld and staying with the weld will he ALOT easyer because your coming back to your most comfortable resting spot. It's much easier to pull back to yourself than it is to push away from yourself when you are trying to stay with the weld.

    I have to lay a straight bead for a 1g test. I am 62 years old. You taught me to lean on something - anything. I think the view from the helmet probably matters a lot. My Yeswelder helmet has been fine until I had to see the edges of the bevels working on this 1G test. I cradled my right hand using my left hand and lowered my left arm as you do. Thought I was going straight, but when I lifted my helmet, I welded over the edge. A really nice weld, thanks to your stick videos, but over the edge. I am going to get a helmet that provides a better view.

      if you look at the end of your rod when youre done youll probably see a little ball of naked metal which makes it hard to re strike, 7018 likes to do that. As soon as you get done give the rod a flick and itl get rid of that, or just keep a piece of scrap metal nearby to drag it across until your back down to flux

      @@stewartskitchen1104 i mean ive never had formal training outside of youtube, the old man and basic trial and error. Im working with a pretty old AC only 220 gravestone, most of my experience is with 6010/6013 and 308/316, most of the stuff i need to do that requires any skill is just simple filet or butt welds, so its basically either a straight bead or the tiny U's
      Honestly the two best tips ive gotten are to #1 find a comfortable position, like i'll literally stick clamps to the table just to give myself an arm rest so im steady, its probably a bad habit but i'll also loosely hold the rod with my off hand, if you arent making long welds or using a stainless rod its not going to get hot enough to burn you.
      #2 is just slowing down and relax on the grip, especially with 6013. For the longest time I had a bad habit of white knuckling the stinger and going too fast and the results were always either meh or just trash.

      @@dolanduk7946yeah, I mean I used to do 6013 but my teacher ran out so he’s making us use 7018 like the rest of the other classes. One problem is my speed, I start off too fast and then get back into slow constant speed. I just need to work on it and maybe my grip. Yesterday I made a single successful bead 😂 so today I’m gonna do it again find out how I did it and keep on going and going until I can make more. • @linalitafarm
    @linalitafarm หลายเดือนก่อน

    I have a basic question about stick welding. How is the weld actually made? When you run a bead, is it like using superglue? In other words, does the material in the stick do all of the work and join the two pieces together? Alternatively, in the process of running the bead are the items being welded also melted and fused with material in the bead? If it's the latter, then how do you know how much melting is required to fuse the items together? Is it just practice? Do you "feel" it my monitoring the resistance to the stick on the metal? After all, it seems that too little melting would result in a weak weld, whereas too much would ruin the weld all together.

    Can we get some beginners tips for low amperage welding. The only machine I have access to is an 80 amp and also very low voltage outlets. At most I can run about 75 amps. It's all I have access to at the moment and I am desperately trying to learn how to do any kind of welding

    • @koppa2

      the metal bends when its too hot maybe youre too slow or running in too much amps hope that helps
