Why it is second rank tensor?
Since it needs 2(xx,xy,xz,yx,yy,yz,zx,zy,zz) basis to specify any stress component at a point, it is a tensor of rank 2.
Bcoz as u have seen to define the stress, At that point we required 1 plane direction(whether on x/y/z plane) , 1 direction (along which direction)
