  • 🇺🇸 "Tramp! Tramp! Tramp! (The Prisoner's Hope)" was one of the most popular songs of the American Civil War. George F. Root wrote both the words and music and published it in 1864 to give hope to the Union prisoners of war. The song is written from the prisoner's point of view. The chorus tells his fellow prisoners that hope is coming.
The melody of the song, has also been used for songs like the fan-made Irish anthem "God Save Ireland!" and the Anti-American East German song "Ami Go Home!".

Also exact "musical tune", or melody, and exact same refrain and other lyrics and sometimes the exact same title, as "Tramp, Tramp, Tramp" or "Land Monopoly Must Clear" which I discovered first; titled "Tramp, Tramp, Tramp" (before the "Land Monopoly Must Clear" titled version and this).
