I thought the owner of bootscourt was one of the best real world interactions of a blind sided real nice guy! He was so kind to open up things you had no idea you were going to be seeing ! I think his hospitality and genuine great nature gave you something most will never see in their lifetime . That to me was just friggin awesome . HAPPY FATHERS DAY SIR!

I grew up in Kansas City Missouri in a suburb named Gladstone Missouri. I, along with my best girlfriend, when we were old enough after graduation we would just takeoff and go riding to places like Sedalia, Carthage, Kirksville, Black Water, chillicothe…Warrensburg… the little towns around the lake of the Ozark, Osage Beach…. We would just get in the car and go find some places to eat and talk to people and learn about places we never thought about going before graduation. It was really interesting,

Warrensburg is famous for a dog named Old Drum, who was shot and killed by a farmer and there was a trial at the courthouse about it. Today an image of Old Drum sits on the lawn at the courthouse.

Southwest Missouri claims a very rich cultural heritage, with painter Thomas Hart Benton being the best-known of its many artists. Carthage was the hometown of the extraordinary Classic Ragtime composer, James Sylvester Scott (1885-1938), whose radiant piano works I've been performing for many decades. Joplin was home to Percy Wenrich (1880-1952), who also wrote fine rags, but is best remembered for his popular songs such as "Moonlight Bay" and "Put on Your Old Grey Bonnet."

When I was just a little guy, my Dad decided to stay in the same motel featured earlier in your video, right on Rte 66. That night, one heckuva thunderstorm went through the town and I can still remember the fear that storm engendered in me. If anything, my mother was more afraid than I was! The First Battle of Bull Run (what it's called up North), was the first "major' battle of the Civil War. The Battle of Carthage had maybe 5,000 total troops, but the First Battle of Bull Run had some 70,000. The Battle of Carthage was also, I believe, the only time a Governor led troops into battle against the Federal Government.

show. I really liked it when I was a kid. And they went to Africa
and it was so interesting. And thank you for letting us know
about him being from there. I learn so much from your travel videos.
Oh and in Joplin the "Barrow gang" was not suspected of being who they
were. The cops were totally unprepared. The suspicion was they were
bootleggers as the sign there says. So actually the cops went there initially
to ask the renters (the "Barrow gang") to stop being so noisy and also to find out
for sure what it was all about. It was sort of strange that Bonnie and Clyde being
there, the possibility never crossed their minds. Of course communication was a
lot less up to date back then.

Hi, just subscribed. I'm resident in the UK, England actually, your videos are so good, really informative. They allow people like myself to have a taste of the United States which would otherwise be impossible, I really enjoy not just the actual tours, but the way you present them too, they're real eye openers when looking at how some towns have degraded, it shows how the lives of people completely change when major changes take place such as a single industry closing down. The abondoned homes, they're a crying shame, hard to believe those were worked for and owned then left to rot because there was simply no other choice, very sad.
Anyway, just wanted to let you know how appreciated your efforts are, I'll keep watching them, several times over sometimes, may thanks and take good care, regards, oh, I forgot to mention, on a lighter note, it's funny to see that although some places are not what they once were, there always seems to be a grandioso court building, brilliant.

It bought me back to a wee young lad staying by my mom in I think a gimbels or lord and Taylor store . I came from a humble family and had never had someone lead the way ? Floor to floor ? I drove through Carthage a couple of times and was impressed by the courthouse but I never went inside it so I was glad to see that you did. I think Joplin will continue to grow because of its location. The hospital there has a good reputation, from what I've heard. There is a good-sized casino nearby. I always wondered what the downtown area looked like. Good job on this video.

I apologize for multiple postings but this video hits do many points of my life ! Marlin Perkins and mutual insurance was a staple at my grandfathers house every weekend . It was the first show on tv that broadend my my mind as a child of how big the USA was back then . My parents bought the first color tv in the family and gave it to my grandfather in 1967\68 ! So I got to see tv in " LIVING COLOR " ! My grandfather died about a year later. But he was able to see tv in color . about three years later the could afford to get a color set in our home . so on this fathers day it means so much ! Most today have no clue what black and white tv was ? So applaud your that memory of so long ago !

More old railroad towns that I've only "flown" over on Google maps. The motel and owner were drop dead cool! Used to watch Wild Kingdom on Sunday nights before Disney: "I'll stay in the helicopter while Jim gives a vesectomy to the bull African elephant". Excellent video throughout, enjoyed it much. Thanks!

A little historic correction for you. The events depicted in the movie Roadhouse actually took place in the town of Skidmore, MO. The folks making the movie felt that the events were too recent and there were still some of the folks alive who witnesses the events depicted, so they moved the movie setting to Jasper. It did give Jasper a few minutes of fame so it's all good.

Now I have seen the whole video, and yes, its the best by a long way, terrific history along the way, and I loved the interaction on this one, at Boots Motel and the other places, Carthage was superb, I'm retired now so I should try to make the time to visit, brilliant work Joe, nice to see your wife involved too, thanks again and I'll keep watching

Your videos trigger a weird nostalgia in me for a past time I never lived in. These towns make me think of scences from movies like back to future.... The old clock tower 😂
Looking at the old motel started stirring thoughts of what possible famous people from years past might have stayed there. Maybe a soon to be star in the 1930s-60s stayed there while traveling on their way to California to make it big in Hollywood.
