  • “The so-called ‘hidden masters’ have never in fact been hidden. People just don’t know how to see outside their tiny reality-tunnel, and so never notice them, even when they are sitting next to you on a park bench.”~ Some crazy dervish
Join us for our once-monthly “Other Talk”, hosted the third Sunday of every month!
    This morning’s topic - “Who is Al-Khidr?”
So who is Al-Khidr? Why does he show up so often in the biographies of so many famous Sufi teachers, such as Ibn Arabi and Abd al Qadir Jilani?
“Al-Khidr” can be taken to mean “The Green One,” and he is connected to several legendary personages as diverse as Elijah and St. George. He is perhaps best known at the teacher of Moses, with their story told in the Quran. Whenever, wherever, and however he appears, one can expect things to change in a big way.
Further questions arise: Is Khidr relevant to today’s world? What can we learn from the stories about him? Is it possible that he exists outside of myth?

This talk meant so much to me ♥️ I am beyond grateful to all that you generously give through your beautiful school🙏🏼 I grew up on celebrating Al Khadir on May 6th every year. All sort of prayers occur at the Shrine regardless of what religion we follow♥️ Its very very special♥️

[Noor] How amazing that you have been celebrating this special time your whole life! Thank you so much for sharing that with us and making the celebration something all the more tangible for those who are learning about Al-Khidr for perhaps the first time. Feel free to share more about the May 6th traditions you grew up with if you like! In any case, we are grateful for your appreciation and are likewise always appreciative of your presence here.

[Mushtaq] We should mention that we will be building the celebration of May 6th into the traditions of The School, as it's important to us on several levels.

Listen my dears. Yall r 👌 👏. I wanna add something about Khider AS story and it is really about Moses and its really about the reader of the story which is you. The purpose of Khider AS showing up was because Moses needed to be taught that as soon as he felt he was the wisest man in the land ALLAH showed him that he is not. This also goes for us, when we start feeling we are better than others Allah shows us better and more learned people than us. There it is.

The meeting of Khidr a.s and Musa a.s has a very deep meaning how twoo worlds interact with each other.
Thats why its mentioned in the surah kahf were 2 seas meet meaning where 2 knowledge meets (the world we live in and the world behind the veil)
1)The world we live: How to organize society that we live in according Gods laws
2)The spiritual world behind the veil: Knowledge or information about events that have to happen and divine intervantion to change the events according Gods plans (Destiny)
Musa a.s was confused because acts that khidr was performing they didnt corespond with the commendements that he recived from God.
Khidr a.s broke 2 of GODS commendemends the (6th You shall not murder and the 10th) than he explained him the meaning of his acts and who gave him the order (GOD)
This reminds us again that no creation knows the future exept ALLAH (no Prophets no Jinns no Angels) and how things will onfold thats why the frase
With the will of god (InshALLAH).

Whilst in Meca on Ummrah guided to focus on Surah Kahf. For three years I have done so in both research and heart search. Alhamdullillah. The eternal aspect of Ya Hayya Ya Quayyum expressed and reflected in Al Khidr who still guides us today if we listen.
As for MLKZD yes links as both transcended and still influencing today..
I first encountered Al Khidr whilst taking a Christian freind on pilgrimage to St Micheal Mount in UK, sublime.
Also MLKZD more recently. Anyone Prophet Abraheem SA paid tribute to worth looking into.
    Jazakallah Khaiyran for the posting.
    Salam.

Al khadir (as) story was explained pretty well except kid part. So in Islam if any kid dies in very young age they basically remain as innocent and pure just like when they were first born so he/she goes straight to haven but if they grow up and does something that bring bad names for his/her family who are good people then it would effect them in a way which god won't like it either. That's the reason why al khadir killed (as) that kid. Each of his actions had valid reasons and knowledge of something that nobody knew except Allah and him.

[Noor] You bring up a good point about the traditional Islamic idea of children's innate innocence. Thanks for mentioning that.

It may be that khidr is the hermes that the ancients used to worship. Some say he is Enoch or the prophet Idris. About the incident mentioned in the quran the The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'May Allah have mercy upon Musa! (moses) We wish that he would have had patience, so that we could have more knowledge about that two of them"; the other two incidents which musa lost patience over. Either way which ever sufi recomends the building of shrines and the idolising of khidr or any persons of holy personage can count himself away from the religion and the way of the noble messenger.

Thank you all for your kind answers, the mystery Al’Khidr is absolutely marvelous - he can be related too so many historical figures that it’s quite confusing - what I know is that I can feel his guidance within me, I was born in May, and the color green has always been my absolute favorite. The encounter with this mystical figure has been flabbergasting at some point in my life while meditating - with the clear-hearing name of Melchizedek- there my research started - but the more I search the more I found new aspects of him.
maybe this can bring some new perspectives !
      G.d knows.

[Noor] I understand your sentiment was meant to be appreciative, but one of the beautiful and most important things about this tradition is that it's meant to be open to everyone and anyone, so in that spirit there's really nothing special about any particular sort of person sharing these stories and teachings. I do hope you enjoyed the content generally though. Cheers.
