Not been turning long but bought one of those plastic centre finders and l agree they don't work brilliantly on uneven logs. Not thought about using a pair of compass l shall try it out next time, thanks for the great tips. Cheers
Always remember the wood isn't perfect and if you get real close thats good enough.
Glad you found the video helpful Andrew. Everyone has their way of finding centre. Thanks for watching. Happy turning.

What is the name of the bit that the stdb centre screws into? Ta David
This is what it is sold as on their Ebay site. WOODTURNING DRIVE CENTRE SET 3/4" X 16 TPI INTERCHANGEABLE DRIVE HEADS RDGTOOLS
What do you search for on RDG's web site for that tool with all the attachments? I have not been able to find it. Guess I would need the spindle adapter too as mine is 1 1/4 inch.
This is from their website and on Ebay. 1" X 8TPI WOOD LATHE DRIVE CENTRE SET INTERCHANGEABLE CROWN DRIVE 4 PRONG or WOODTURNING DRIVE CENTRE SET 3/4" X 16 TPI INTERCHANGEABLE DRIVE HEADS RDGTOOLS.
