I'm a Vet, Intermediate rider. I have worn lots of boots but have to say the best I ever had is the Alpinestars Tech 10. At first I wasn't a fan of the inner bootie, but just leave it in and my foot slips in and out, no problem. Thick comfy padding around the ankle. Not as stiff as my Sidi boots were.
Alpinestar are the most comfortable boots I've ever put on my feet I've been writing off and on since I was 8 years old I'm 50 now I've had all kinds of boots the only bad thing is the flexible Tow on the alpinestars bit me when my foot hit a log!
i still have my first gen instincts and ride the hell out of them, ive had no problems with durability as others are saying, and i dont feel like theyve broken down hardly at all. i like the narrow toe box and how it really hugs the foot, and the mobility really helps when you have metal in your ankle
Had Fox Instincts until 10 months ago when I shattered both my ankles after casing a jump (didn't crash, rode it out). The bolt that goes through the side snapped out on impact causing my feet to bend up too far. Bought a pair of SG-12 for the ankle support and finally started riding again a few weeks ago and wow they are tons better than the Instincts. Buy the high quality proven boot.
Vet rider. Had sg12 for 4 years- getting some ankle sprains/strains. Tried the SG 22- similar feel. The SG12 is a sturdy well built boot. Tried the tech 10- wow nice boot with excellent ankle support. After a day adjusting to feel of the boot, glad I changed. 6 ride days in ankles great and I have better feel/squeeze on the bike. I am an intermediate othg guy- before I used to dbl the triple - as I have improved- “ sending it” 😂more. This leads to some over jumping/casing straining the ankles. I don’t know if they are as durable? Did I say boot super comfortable and supportive 😊. Tech 10 fan now. My daughter moved up from tech 7-barely -as 7 ( her size)is minimum size. After a day no problem with increased stiffness/support. She is now a fan as well.
Iv had the last gen instincts, they are the most comfortable boot I’ve ever worn. Felt like a running shoe. Then after a broken metatarsal from a tip over that twisted the foot went to a tech 10. After getting used to the stiffer nature of the tech 10 I couldn’t be happier. Feel so much more protected in the tech 10s. After wearing out my last pair in less than a year just bought another pair of tech 10s. Thought about going Gaerne but didn’t want to risk it and needed boots ASAP. Sidi’s seem to have very minimal vertical movement ankle support. He can move his foot up and down so much in the Sidi’s it blows my mind how easy they move in the hinge area. Maybe that’s better for off-road but me for moto I need that hard landing support
I bought a pair of 23 fox motion boots yesterday. OMG I never thought a pair of boots could fit like the do. High arc foot, wide feet the motion are great
Currently own a set of the Tech 10s and the SIDIs. The Tech 10s are by far the most comfortable and stiff boots that I've tried, which is what I like. The SIDIs are much lighter and have great feel but I don't have any confidence in their ankle protection capabilities and the nylon inner inserts are very hard on clutch cover wear on the bike. The only downside of the Tech 10s I've noticed is my feet get very hot in hot weather (90°+) riding. I'd love to try the supervented variant; may be the perfect boot then.
Hot tip with T10 super vented: brilliant for wet riding in all but winter. The vents allow all the water to drain straight back out. Too cold in wet winter riding though.
I used the Tech 10 for Motocross for many years, a great boot and very comfortable, now with a Trail bike like the KTM 890 Adv R I bought the Gaerne SG12 because it allows you much more ankle mobility, an interesting point since for Trail routes you make links road, and offroad it provides sufficient rigidity and protection for this type of motorcycle.
Thank you again for the great review. Just my two cents. For the last year I've been riding tech 10's super vented. I ride MX pretty much every weekend. Very comfy, now. Took a couple rides to break in. They feel great, feels like they offer great support and protection and have held up very well. My son rode in the Fox Instinct, they fell apart pretty fast. So he switched to the Gaerne SG-12's, he loves them. The inner rubber pad on the outside of the boot that makes contact with the bike frame wore out so we ordered new ones. They cost $5.95 for each boot, a little quality glue and 20 minutes later as good as new. Super easy and inexpensive fix on a wear part.
I'm currently owning TECH 10. Great design, comfort, protection and many other ....but..... due to inner bootie, shell lenght is higher than other so I can't use to. Is big difference in shoe lenght between SG12 and TECH10 in size 12? I've been wearing INSTINCT 2.0 before and is 3cm shorter which is a lot for me.
I bought a pair of new Alpinestars Tech 5 boot in 2024, and I am speechless on how well they fit, feel and support my feet. No doubt I will upgrade to Tech 10. 5:59

I’m glad you mentioned weight on the SG12. I’ve got the Tech 10s now and thought they were heavy. I was considering trying a different brand but I’ll probably just stick with the Tech 10s now.
Which pair has the widest toe box? I'm rocking a forma adventure for low key stuff and a Alpinestars Tech 7 when I'm doing aggressive stuff, both of which have a small toe box for me. The flex 5.5, sg10-22's are on my radar. Toebox>bombproof>comfort> tactile feel if you're looking for more information. I definitely like the tactile feel of the forma adventure and to a lesser extent the tech 7 but I soloride & ride my 890 adv aggressively offroad. I'd rather have comfort and protection over useful but unneeded extra info coming from my feet.
my tech 7's are beautiful, only thing i can complain about is how stiff they are, *only about 3-4 rides in them so probably not broken in* cant feel the shifter and they barely fit under it. And the top of the boot opening is so big it has alot of play even on tightest setting and catches onto my bike.
God, I feel like a dinosaur in here.....Believe it or not, I still have a pair of the blue/yellow Heckel's from when I first began riding MX in the early 70's on a Bultaco Pursang....lol. Just got back into MX after a 37 year lay-off and had to buy boots. Finally chose the SG12's and could not be happier. Yeah, they're heavy and you don't have quite the feel on the pegs or controls I'm sure some of the others have, but man, if you're looking for durability and protection, I don't see how they can be beat. As far as feel on the pegs, just give them a little bit of time. After you ride with them for a bit, the feel of the pegs and the controls just comes naturally. The weight, though, is always going to be there. They aren't made for hiking for sure....
I need to go up 2 sizes for the tech 10, the inner boot is so narrow at the toe area. Tried a size 10 tech 10, but it hurts my toes. Now i’m forced to go from a size 9 tech 7 to size 11 on the tech 10.
i have the oneal rider boots and ill be honest they aren’t comfortable at all they are super still and my boot is always getting stuck in between the foot peg and the shifter when i try to shift and when i try to use my back brake i fall sometimes because they do not have feel to them so i dont know how much pressure im putting on the brake and always end up falling from not feeling how much pressure im putting on the back brake . any recommendations on a good comfortable boot that would let me shift and brake no problem?

I'm guessing a tree branch ripped it off. I told them though, it's not right that you're selling new boots but not able to sell parts for the ones that are already sold. That's some B.S. I didn't expect from Alpinestars. By the way, I've checked the ones that I ordered in March of '22 still aren't in, it's Dec.'22 as I write this.
Hey Chase thanks for the review. Sounds like the Instinct's have the best feel/flexibility. I have some Tech 8 and there to stiff and the toe box is to tall. I can't feel the shifter, let alone get my toe under it. Any other recommendations?
The new Instinct doesn't have as much peg feel as the previous version. Honestly, I would say the Tech 10 is better now. But, the Instinct 2.0 is very lightweight feeling and very comfortable. I really don't think you can go wrong with any of these, they're all good. I've also really enjoyed my SG12s too. They're not as comfortable to have on all day for me, but the protection and durability are hard to beat. - Chase
Which boots are the most comfortable overall? I’m looking at getting a bike but I don’t know if I’m gonna be racing, so I don’t want too stiff of a boot
The most comfortable boot that I've worn is the new Fox Motion or the Fox Instinct 2.0. They have the same mold so they fit the same. Next to those, I would go with the Alpinestars Tech 7 or the Leatt 4.5 - Chase

At last, a review that where the reviewer actually understands that all people have different foot shapes! But when I go to you r website, I can see only stock images from manufacturers that show the boots from the side or from a 3/4 angle. Can't you just take images of these boots from the above and from below so people can see whether they will fit their feet? This will save you a lot on shipping, returns and restocking. From my experience, most boots are too narrow and have weird shapes. Looking forward to Gaerne Fastback Endurance that some reviews advertise as wide. Unfortunately, SiDI X-3 did not fit - even though they have a relatively wide toe box, they are very narrow in the middle (which is very weird) and have very narrow ankles.
Don't get the Leatt 5.5 if you want something durable. They began falling apart on me within the first hour of riding. The sole material breaks off in chunks with the slightest impact on the pegs. Don't waste your money.
100%. Wore instincts for years till I shattered both my ankles in them 8mo ago. The bolt that holds that ankle stop in broke out. Went to sg-12 and are an incredible upgrade.
If I wanted the most bomb proof sole, I'd say the SG12 or the Sidi. If you're hard on soles, then the Crossfire SRS or the ATOJO might be the bests option for you. - Chase
Anyone here unable to wear all of these boots? If so, why is that? What are you looking for in a boot that these don't offer? Different performance, lower price with specific performance features? From 1 to 4, 1 being most important, what are the most important performance features in a high end MX boot?
@@rmatvmc this might be true, however the sg12 feels heavier on foot, not sure why. Very disappointed on how tight the ankles are and I’m not a big guy at all
The "flex control insert" on the tech 10's snapped on both boots within the first week of using them, we tried to return it and you guys refused. We wrote a review on your site, just facts of what happened and you guys deleted it. Pretty sketchy

100%. Wore instincts for years till I shattered both my ankles in them 8mo ago. The bolt that holds that ankle stop in broke out. Went to sg-12 and are an incredible upgrade.
I'm a hard enduro guy, my biggest issue is ripping the soles off. What boot is best to avoid this.
If I wanted the most bomb proof sole, I'd say the SG12 or the Sidi. If you're hard on soles, then the Crossfire SRS or the ATOJO might be the bests option for you. - Chase
@@rmatvmc awesome, many thanks for the reply
I came here for Chase
Haven't heard that one before haha. But hey, whatever gets you to watch! - Chase
Funny, my dad has the Gaerne's and the sole is coming apart and falling off
Really? How much time does he have on them? I haven't seen that hardly at all with the SG12. - Chase
SIDI or Garnae SG12 for me. Alpinestars has the worst customer service I've ever dealt with so that's a deal breaker for me.
Fox fox fox
Fox = poor quality made in chyna
@@moto3463 you can't even spell China, finish school 🙄
Anyone here unable to wear all of these boots? If so, why is that? What are you looking for in a boot that these don't offer? Different performance, lower price with specific performance features? From 1 to 4, 1 being most important, what are the most important performance features in a high end MX boot?
You gotta be Kidding Me with that Terrible Intro Music Crap Noise…Yer FIRED !!!
Sg12 are super heavy, way too tight on the ankles and scratch the sides of your bike up really bad. Going back to tech 10’s
The Tech 10 and SG12 are pretty much the same weight if I remember correctly. - Chase
@@rmatvmc this might be true, however the sg12 feels heavier on foot, not sure why. Very disappointed on how tight the ankles are and I’m not a big guy at all
Tore the toe and sole off my alpinestar tech 7 in 2 days😂 $400 waste, stick too garne they’re rebuildable!🤷🏻♂️
Wow, you must be hard on boots!
They just don’t make em’ like they used too!🤷🏻♂️
What choice? 5.5 gpx vs tech 7 ?
Personally, I'd probably go with the Tech 7 - Chase
The "flex control insert" on the tech 10's snapped on both boots within the first week of using them, we tried to return it and you guys refused. We wrote a review on your site, just facts of what happened and you guys deleted it. Pretty sketchy
Did you have the first gen of the new Tech 10? Even I had that break on my pair, but I haven't had any problems with my second gen pair. - Chase
@@rmatvmc yeah, the first batch that went for sale.
What would you recommend to take new leatt 5.5 or used item sg12?
Brand new leatt as boots mould to your foot over time
