My Fox Instincts didn’t last 30 hours! If you want durability, you want Gaerne. If the Gaerne’s are too wide, buy the Sidis.
What failed on the foxes?
@@therealturbofanisme, the soles separated from the rest of the boot. I tried to get Fox to warranty them with no luck and I tried to glue them back together with cobbler’s glue and that ultimately failed as well.
Fox Instinct boots are made in China. The only ones that aren't is the Gaerne (Italy) and Sidi's (Italy/Romania)
My humble opinion for buyers out there: unless you don't mind durability, the Gaerne's are your best option. They will outlast every other boot
#facts
Sidi should be on par!
They are pricey but they are super comfortable and they last forever. Fox Instinct boots are terrible
1 year on sidi and there done 600 us dollars @@d1aman
I love my Tech 7’s. I think they should be included in this shootout, since some pros don’t like the Tech 10 booties, they run the Tech 7’s.
The Tech 7 is considered a mid-level boot. It is a boot though that a lot of people love riding in! Thanks for watching!
Gearne SG10's are awesome.
I’ve seen a lot of people break ankles and feet whilst riding and crashing in Fox boots. More like a shoe than a protective boot
After the absolute dumpster fire of my first and only pair of fox boots I ever bought, literally broke apart after 5 rides, I can’t see myself ever getting Fox boots again.
Leatt 5.5 flex lock going on 8 months, zero complaints
Love FOX Racing gear, but yeah their boots l’d never buy…
I absolutely love my previous gen Fox instincts! Everything from big outdoor tracks in Oklahoma to single track. Only issue I’ve ever had was a strap break, other than that they are still going strong after 115hrs on my 350sxf
If the sole isn't stiff there's no protection if you hit you're foot consequences are bad. Also to me hinch is the best protection for the ankle. To me Gaerne the best.. also the toebox is much more protective and super comfortable..I'm a Alpinestars fan but love the Gaerne boots better
Definitely need a good sole! Fractured both feet not having a stiff enough sole!
Have SG12s last and last and get better with time, handmade in Italy, not paying a premium price for made in China, I wont wear AP*s for that reason and if I did it would be T7s, I wont wear a AP*T10, I have seen too many ankle issues broken usually from locals and top pros, it maybe most people wear em, but I have had my fair share of crashes and never hurt my lower legs! I was a Sidi fan years ago but when they changed the models and sizes and location made I changed the last hold out of made in Italy, I like my boot to break in, that's how a good boot should work imo, riding over 45 years and still on 2t, might be old-school, but I'm not a one week boot guy and end up riding like I got slippers on! Just my experience, maybe different for a pro, but I also don't want to mess around with booties. I'm not convinced either on the system, just because everyone wears it. Touch wood never had an issue in Sidi or Gaerne and being made in Italy still means something to me! I avoid Chinese made anything if possible, not always possible. I still have gear from when it was made in Finland, it still looks good today, my pride an joy is a pair of 1985 MotoFox Vented Pants and still like new! wont get that from Chinese made in 2055!
I know it’s not the majority of your guys’ business, but more videos about any youth related gear would be amazing if you guys have the time. Keep up the great work
That wouldn't be a bad idea though! Thanks for your feedback!
I love my SG12’s, haven’t had a chance to try the 22’s. For me I need a boot that will last a long time and provide great support and comfort. I love the memory foam around the ankle and I had a pair last me 4 years before I felt like I needed to get a new pair. Love em
Four years is a good amount of time! Sounds like you've found your perfect boot!
Really Fox Instinct??? come on, protection is the most important thing and Fox boots don't have it. Gaerne all the way for me next to the Alpinestars tech 10. BTW to do really good test you should crash in all these boots ;)
Look, I get that the Instincts have had a bad reputation and I totally understand why. The old Instinct was definitely too soft. But this new version is much better and offers good protection and support. But it's also a give and take. I love the Gaerne SG-22 and yeah, they're the most durable boot, but for me, every time I put the new Instinct on, it's hard for me to want to ride in anything else. - Chase
Crazy nobody liked the Sidi. I swear by them. Love my Crossfire 3 SRS. The ability to replace soles in 10minutes is the best. Wonder if it’s the little bit of break in time they need that nobody liked them. Sidi or Gearne everything else I’ve seen too many people get hurt in.
I guess some people like a break in period and other just don't. This boot just requires a specific foot shape IMO. The new Crossair they have coming out that Malcom Stewart has been wearing uses a completely different sole and I'm sure will be really good! - Chase
gaernes in the long run will outlast all of the other boots and break in the best.
I used to wear instincts until one of my toes was crushed by a rock. Then I started looking at Sidi and Gaerne for some extra protection. I then realized how little protection the instinct offered. I bought the Gearne and Sidi crossfire 3 SRS. I now love the Sidi and plan on sticking with that. If you have a wide foot then don't get the SRS version. The SRS has a more narrow toe box.
Glad you are liking your new pair of Gaerne boots. Be safe on the trails!
Love my SG22s. I've got flat wide feet and can't even get my foot in a tech 10 so I've never tried them. Coming from SG12, big improvement. Broke-in the same day. I wear knee braces. I wear a 8.5 to 9 shoe and 8s fit perfectly like my SG12s did
Glad to hear you love your Gaernes! Thanks for watching and sharing some feedback! - Chase
Had TCX 2.1 pros for years amazing boot lasts and last for years, but was bulky and used to catch my foot / toe on deep ruts even landed on my leg of a table top, zero injuries. Now running tech 10 great comfy boot don’t catch my foot / toe able to ride on toes more but I have hurt my ankles / legs on impacts and definitely less protection so,it’s a trade off. The tech 10s have fell to bits in less than 2 years only doing mx for 1-3 hrs a week, there is a hole all the way through to the side of my foot where they bend, lost 2 straps and I’ve had to replace to soles after a year on standard foot pegs. Which leads to the price, very expensive if they only last 2 years maximum even being looked after. Going to try SG22s next
Love your shootouts! Well made and fun to watch!
Is there any future plan to do a shootout for trails/enduro riding? Curious to see how the ranking change if at all..
Possibly, keep an eye out for a video!
Sidi is the only consitent boot..
10 yr old Astars tech 7 not a single issue. Soles have worn down over time obviously and just this year started noticing it transfer through. Top shelf product as always which is why I’ve grabbed a fresh set. I’ve worn nothing else for 30 years best bang for your buck hands down. I ride track and trail and my buddies are constantly complaining about broken buckles with the competitors.
What we learnt:
Sidi is the worst of the bunch
Tech10 or Instint 2.0 joint first.
So I bought SG22(a size down)🤣
PS: comments section seems to rave about Gaerne too...
How about an enduro boot shootout ? A lot of us ride singetrack/ enduro
Hi, Wich boots would you consider enduro boot? Manuel Lettenbichler wins the enduro championchip on the instincs, Johnnie Walker use the 5.5 leatt, and gaerne and sidi are used for a lot of riders
@@jesusivanrocha9020 those guys get a pair or new boots weekly, it helps that the fox is already broken in… my tech 10s have fell it hits in under 2 years purely riding mx, I couldn’t imagine enduro. I’m going to go sg22 next as I’ve started doing enduro as well now
We have a video coming out this fall, so keep an eye out!
I would define an Enduro Boot as having a welted sole or treaded sole intended to offer traction when off the bike/pushing/dabbing. A-Stars, Sidi, and the like make soles for that use case.
Formas like Baylor wears@@jesusivanrocha9020
Fox Instinct boots and Alpinestar boots are made in China now. Not sure where Leatt boots are made, I couldn't find any info so I'm guessing China too. The only ones that aren't are the Gaerne's (Italy) and Sidi's (Italy/Romania).
Leatt is developed in Cape Town, South Africa and tested in Munich, Germany
@@rmatvmc Thanks!
@@rmatvmc any idea where they're made?
IF you have smaller calves, only options are Tech 10 and SIDI's
I tried the Fox Instinct 2.0 for enduro and they felt like moccasins. I'd be better off wearing steel toe work boots since I care about my feet. SG-22s weren't available so I went with my second set of Sidi Crossfires, this time a TA. Dabbing is super solid and everything else is acceptable, especially given the time the bike crankcase fell directly on my foot on top of a rock and I didn't even feel it. I don't need tib-fib-ankle-foot bullshit on my already long injury report.
Sounds like you've really put those boots to the test! Glad Sidi's were there to save your foot! Just shows how much a good boot can really help!
I didn't delete it fast enough. Lmao
👍👍👍👍
I know its a mid-tier but the Tech 7 is my fav. The most comfortable boot on the market, lighter than T10, not so stiff, and affordable. You just give up a little protection. Ill buy nothing but Tech 7s. My pair have lasted 6 years so far!
Interested in what you feel comfortable in "giving up" when it comes to protection in a boot? Astars has a new Tech7 coming out very soon - Chase
I love my tech 10s they beat out my second favorite boot of the instincts but over shot a 100 foot table and the fox boots folded so bad my toes smacked my shins, the tech 7s nearly destroyed my foot from the plastic part bending into the soft part and almost swore off alpinestars but the tech 10 was insanely good over shot the same 100 and nothing it has a piece where the ankle flexes in the front the prevents from hyper extensions and it is a must have for me now. I prefer safety over everything at 35. Tech 10s for the win. The only down side is the price is absolutely ridiculous.
The price of a Tech 10 is always better than the price of an emergency trip though. 😉
@@rmatvmc 1000% agree
Will you guys make a non premium boot shootout or whatever it would be called. Like with Tech 7 vs fox motion vs whatever else there is love the videos Great job as usual
Kris and I have already put one on the schedule! Planning to film it this fall. - Chase
@@rmatvmc awesome thanks for the response can’t wait
Which one is best for small calves?
Sidi and Tech 10 - Chase
I love the Instincts, but the buckle system really sucks, with the slightest dirt getting between them you can't get them closed and I literally have to use a hammer and brake cleaner. And as Keefer mentioned the buckles come unbuckled quickly if you hit something. But overall definitely better than the previous model.
Sounds like Fox knows what to work on. The buckles really are the only thing I can complain about with them. I haven't had problems with the buckles coming up though. Thanks for the feedback! - Chase
I'd love to get an enduro take on these boots. I've been looking for a similar or beefier boot than the tech 7 while maintaining similar flexibility/peg feel. The instinct 2.0 based on your suggestions & these new videos seem to be the best pick - but kitchen in his sx moto last month with his buckles unlatching and accident prone roczen had made the argument more difficult to argue for. Unfortunately "going out and trying them before you buy" is difficult as I don't have a local store that sells more than the tech 10 in stores.
If that's not in the cards because of time restraints - I wouldn't mind doing a video & a writeup from a heavy enduro point 😉 just need to borrow a pair of each for a while.
Also can we get a new instinct 2.0 vs sg10 vs tech 7? Seems like a great vs's episode.
We are planning a mid-level boot shootout this fall! - Chase
Does the Fox Instinct 2 offer more protection and comfort then a Tech 7?
I would say yes. They are stiffer than a Tech 7 and IMO, they do secure the ankle better. My only real complaint I've ever had about the Tech 7 is that they leave my ankle feeling a little loose when I have them on. The Instinct hugs and holds the ankle in place great. - Chase
Chase had to slip the calf comment in there 😂
Psh, uhhh, yeah I did. 😉
Are the sg12 still for sale? Or is everything sg22 now?
Yes, they still have the SG12 for sale and will continue to sell them.
What is the best boot for shifting in a mid range budget
Fox Motion, Leatt 4.5, or Tech 7. Astars has a new Tech 7 coming out this year! - Chase
I have the Leat and the same pressure point. After 3 rides there isn't there anymore.
Thanks for the feedback!
Can we get a Mid-Level version of this? (Fox Motion, Tech 7, SG10, etc). Would love to see this type of shootout but for the more budget friendly version!
We have videos planned, so keep an eye out for them!
FOX is the best to me!
Comfort, Lightness, Beautiful to see and extreme good quality materials at touch
Do the Fox's still fall apart before the season is over? Literally I hear this often with Fox boots.
I know they have that reputation, but speaking from my experience and even Charles, who had 70 hours on a pair, the durability is just as good as an Alpinestars IMO. - Chase
Used to be an Alpinestars fan, but ever since they came up with that friggin’ inner bootie, thanks, but no thanks! And, Tech7s don’t look too protective. So, looking to buy Gaerne’s SG22s…
Which boot fits wide feet the best?
Fox Instinct, SG22, Tech 10, Leatt, Sidi - This is how I would rate them for width. - Chase
@@rmatvmc It's important to note that not all boots in each brand's lineup fit the same. Sidi SRS boots are significantly narrower than Sidi's TA soled boots which leads to the general misconception that all Sidi's are narrow boots. I've been in Sidi CF TA boots for years because they are the widest...even wider than the Gaerne SG12.
No Forma contender 😔Predator 2.0 is an amazing model.
We don't carry that boot so we didn't have it in our shootout. Thanks for watching!
Isn't Sidi's premium boot the Atojo?
It's very similar, but when I asked Sidi what boot they would want in the shootout, they suggested the CF3 SRS - Chase
No boot protects your ankles better than a Hinged boot. As we all have seen what happened to Eli Tomac. If he wore a Gearne SG10 or SG12 his ankle would have survived.
Had to delete that last comment, did ya? - Chase
@@rmatvmc lol yup. 😆
You do know that the boot he was wearing was completely different than what you can buy. His boots had the protection to prevent that taken out for more flex. Most top pros do it. Now Tomac runs a stock boot with the protection.
@moto143 my piont exactly 💯 🙌
@@dennismillus4581 if he had the normal boot on, most likely wouldn’t have happened
im fine with the $100 moose racing sure if you got $500 get the best the tech 3’s
you are fine until you have a small crash and destroy your leg. Better to not ride and save for a good pair of boots than to burn money in a bad pair.
Sole wear number 1 issue with boots, no help. Thanks.
SIDI Crossfire with MX sole (Not SRS crap)
Their new boot that Malcom Stewart has been wearing will have a more modern MX sole. Should be here later this year - Chase
Fox boots always wear out too fast. Why pay this much if that’s true? Unless, of course, you’re sponsored by Fox!!! That’s not me, though!!
I don't think the durability on the new Instinct 2.0 is bad at all. We're going to do a long-term ride review on them, but overall they've held up well. - Chase
Sponsored by astars? Not even being able to replace the bottom is so dumb for a $900 aud boot.
Americans will realise sidi is the best boot. The way it locks into you achilles in unreal and can replace every part of it.
If the Sidi won for one of the riders, I can almost guarantee you wouldn't be questioning in Sidi sponsored the video. If you like the Sidi, that's awesome, but clearly not everyone feels the same as you. - Chase
@@rmatvmc both Keefs are sponsored by Astars.. how is that an honest review.
@@lukescido9265 Yes, they do receive boots from Astars and I've been given boots from every company as well. But Kris and Aden are NOT paid by them. They choose them because it's they're favorite boot to wear. If Kris liked Gaerne the most, he could easily get Gaerne boots or any other brand to ride in. Astars makes a really good boot and that is why they like them the most. - Chase
Most of us Trail Ride and what make a boot good for the track doesn't always make it a good boot for the trail. Do a shoot out for us trail riders..
Fox is CRAP spelled backwards
Gaerne will never be pronounced correctly on this channel.
And how it supposed to be pronounced?
fox sponsored lol
Because they make a good boot you assume they sponsored this video? Well, I hate to rain on that parade.. - Chase
