    This is a great review. I wish you guys would do the same review after one of your offroad, non-mx adventures for all the trail guys out there. Things like grip on rocks/dirt, durability, water resistance, and how you feel being in the boot all day would be interesting and helpful to a lot of riders. Thanks everyone for doing this review.

      @@nikolasgibson3438 IMO I have had Alpinestars and they may of felt good out of the box but limit support and protection long term ...I believe the best boot is the SG-12. They are not designed to walk Mt Everest, but if I rolled off there I'd want those boots on me PERIOD 😉

    Tech 10 definitely very stiff. Maybe I’m just weird but I got running in my new tech 10s to break them in before their first actual ride. Sprints up and down a steep hill, running and jumping around in the for an afternoon really makes a difference and it’s worth it with how truly good the tech 10 is.

  • @mxslick50
    @mxslick50 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I looked at the Tech 10s but budget (and not finding them in black in my size at the time) made me go for the Tech7s and overall I am very pleased with them. They broke in faster than I initially thought they would, and I like the support and peg feel they offer. Plus I love the way they look. I did however have to go up 1/2 size for best fit. (11, my foot is 10.5)
    Compared to my SG-12s they have a slightly higher toe box so shifting took me bit of time to readjust to. But the better feel and comfort is worth it.
    I only have two minor complaints with the 7s ....one, they squeak A LOT when walking. Second, (and my old Tech 3s from 1990 had this same issue), they really start to stink faster than my SG-12s. Not sure why, and I don't have the issue with my shoes or work boots. It may have something to do with how Alpinestars processes the leather.
    Overall they are excellent and very durable boots for the price.
    My buddy Xandar currently runs the Fox Instincts and agrees with you guys on the lack of durabilty, but likes the feel and ankle flex of them.
    He also used to wear the SG-12s but didn't like how heavy the soles felt and how stiff they were.
    He'll try my Tech 7s on our next ride, with the high ratings you guys gave the Tech 10, he is interested in trying Alpinestars for his possible next set of boots.
    Thanks guys for the excellent video on this and the many other topics you cover.
    Braap on!

    Wore the instincts for 1 season and decided to give the SG12 a try, really really like the fit and finish and how comfortable they were. That being said, I kept misshifting and hitting my rear brake unintentional, the toe box is just huge, couldn’t get used to it and bought new instincts.

    Great video with good, useful info. It was interesting to me that all the riders with wide feet liked the fit of the tech 10's. I was always told Gaerne had the widest fit, and I have very wide feet. I might try on a pair of tech 10's someday, but I have a feeling that I'll stick with Gaerne. I feel like the stiffness and heavy, solid construction helps quite a bit with safety as well.

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The SG12s are pretty wide, but yes, the Tech 10s are also wide as well. One thing about the Tech 10 that I like is that the toe box construction has a little more give to it than the SG12. My big toe presses up against the side of the SG12 and rubs it a little bit. - Chase

Coming from that kind of protection, about 2 years ago, I got a pair of Insticts and for me they're okay but feel soft. A few month's later after watching many reviews and looking at the construction of many boots, along with the price points, I got a pair of Leatt 5.5's. Over all I'm very satisfied with them. This might be a stupid sounding question but I'm 64 this year and I ride a 420 pound g 650 gs sertao and I'm wanting a motorcross boot for its crush protection . It seems like the less lateral movement the boot has the harder it is to crush or collapse left and right . I want a boot that if my heavy bike lands on my boot the boot will keep my ankle and leg from getting crushed . Thats the main concern . The 2nd consern is the comfort for long wear time . and 3rd concern is feeling the shifter . What boot should I get for riding at slower speed on fire roads and some single trails through the mountains .

  • @chrisfig77

    Great video!! I wish I would of seen this while I was in the market. I pretty much tried on all of these boots and without being able to ride in them it's pretty much up to fitment. The main issue I was having with finding boots that fit is even though the length was good, I was having issues with my heel coming up. In the end it was between the Crossfire's, SG 12's and the Leatt 5.5. (The Tech 10's we're out of stock) The Sidi's were a little narrow, the SG 12 we're a little wide plus felt like there wasn't much cushion. Then I tried on the Leatt 5.5's which felt like putting on a comfy snowboard boot. They were super plush, had good buckles and seemed pretty protective. The only issue was that when buckled there was pressure on my inside ankle bones which I contemplated about and figured they have to break in. So I got the Leatt's and after about 15 hours of riding they seem to be breaking in pretty good. There's a little pressure when I first buckle them up but after all day riding have no pinch points or sore spots on my feel. As stated in the video, if they get rid of the pressure points and reinforce the screws that some people have had pull thru, I think these will be in the top 3. The main thing for me was that it held my heel secure and didn't have any heel rise when walking or standing on the balls of my feet.

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the feedback, Chris. You're absolutely right. Everything about the 5.5 is pretty dang solid. Like we said in the video, when you put them on, the footbed is one of the most comfortable. Just have the spot on the ankle that bugged a couple of us. But they're a solid boot. - Chase

      My Tech 7 Enduro boots work pretty well for me. Pro: Comfortable and sturdy. Have supported my ankles well when I crash practicing. Good grippy sole. Con: Grippy sole sticks on the pegs so to shift I have to lift straight up, move to shifter/brake and shift/brake then lift back up and go back to ball of foot. I've adjusted to these but I think I'd prefer the regular Tech 7

      I broke my tib & fib wearing Instincts some years ago then changed to T10's after that for several years without any issues. I recntly went back to try Instincts again and then broke my big toe in a crash. As most have said, Instincts are comfortable straight out of the box but the toe box is soft compared to other premium boots and the boot generally not as supportive due to its flexibility, in my opinion. If you want looks & comfort, then the Instinct is the way to go, but if you want support and protection, then I would pick one of the other boots. I wear ATOJO's now and they are great. They are supportive, offer great protection and are still the lightest boots out there.
      PS - I. find the Instincts get smelly really quickly for some reason too. I don't have that problem with other brands..

    I am Dual-Sport/adventure type of rider. Two years back, as I started to do more hardcore dual-sport type of the riding, I transferred from tourist/adv style of the boots into pure dirt type of the boots. I was afraid that it would be missiarable experience with non waterproof, stiff like hell, stone heavy boots. Have selected SG-12 for durability, comfort and soil stiffness. For me stiff soil is an advantage. Otherwise when I am standing on the pegs for 8 or 10h a day, I would feel pegs digging into my feet. Done up to moment ca 10 000miles with them and I absolutely love my sg-12.

    Great video and a great idea to do this kind of a shootout, definitely looking forward for more!
    One improvement suggestion: Maybe in the end go through each competitor with everyone's overall opinion on them. Feels like Leatts being mostly averarge or below on everyone's list, they didn't get that much attention in the video.
    Overall ranking in the end would be interesting too, putting together all category scores for every boot and declare the winner. Although with boots being so different to different types of feet the overall ranking wouldn't be that scientific.
    (This is a bit biased coment as I've been looking to get the Leatts the most)

      Hi Turre, if this helps in any way, I got the Leatts for enduro riding after trying all of these boots at the store before buying. I've got Sidi Crossfire 3 SRS boots myself. I'm a big dude and have a wide foot, so they're not the most comfortable in the toe box/ball of the foot area, but other than that the boots are very adjustable and comfortable. Not sure I would buy them again because of the width concern, but for someone with a skinnier foot, they're fantastic.

  • @thomasrosenwirth7035

    Why did you pick the Sidi Atajo insteda of the Crossfire 3 (them beeing the equivalent to SG12)?

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would have to disagree with that. Cairolli and other top pros all wear the ATAJO. It's less expensive than the CF3, but the ankle support and protection is very similar. It doesn't have as many replacement parts which is another reason for the cheaper price. I'm a bit confused on why the Sidi Crossfire's weren't included? Also there should've been a spot under comfort for width. I personally purchased a pair of Gaerne SG-12'S from Rocky Mountain ATV and none there could explain to me on how to adjust the shin plate so it'll open up farther since I'm 6'3" & 300lbs with huge legs & I also have a wide foot. So I finally ended up getting a pair of Sidi Crossfire 3's with the regular sole and I'll tell ya I'm kinda glad no one from Rocky Mountain ATV couldn't help me, because these Crossfire's are on point. There still needs to be a video of how you actually adjust the boots and still don't understand why the Crossfire's weren't included.

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Tony, we thought about adding those in, but truth is, they are so similar in the fit, sole, and construction of the lower part, we didn't think it was needed to have them in this video. Plus, just having 5 boots was tough to get in that much riding. The amount of laps done to ride in 6 boots is a ton! To adjust the SG12 shin plate, you simply undo the three screws on the shin plate and move it to the other set of holes. But sounds like you went with Sidi anyway. I'm glad you're liking them. - Chase
