  • EP-4 “Navy Cruise 1972” Ch 1 - This is the 4th and largest 8mm reel containing footage from ~ 1-Feb 1972 - 30-Sept 1972 during his 1st combat tour aboard the USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63) flying F-4J’s as a member of VF-114 “Aardvark’s”. A large part of it was shot from the flight deck during flight ops and onboard with him during combat missions. Unfortunately there is no voice to go with it.
I’m joined on this episode by former Blue Angel #1 RADM Denny “Rattler” Wisely USN (Ret.). This was Denny’s 3rd combat cruise with VF-114 and Mad Duck’s wingman a whole lot of times. Denny sat down for a conversation and talks about the realities of combat - the stress, the grind, the fact that you are getting shot at and how you “blow off” steam in the down times just to stay sane. He discusses his 2 MIG kills and getting shot down himself, ejecting over Laos and being rescued just before being captured. We review the first half of the 23 minute 8mm reel as he explains the flight deck ops, air-to-air refueling, the typical mission profile and tactics we are seeing. Along the way he shares some great stories & some special insights about my dad. I was so fortunate to be able to capture these moments between us - thank you Denny! The 8mm is largely uncut by me, this is how he spliced it and came off the reel. What story was he trying to tell?

Awesome to listen to. My uncle was with VF-114 from Oct 67 to Jan 68 when he was killed when his F4 went into the Tonkin Gulf and both crew were lost.

11:56 onwards is probably some of my favorite footage on this channel. Him realizing that it's his F-4 as well as the CAT launch was some amazing footage. 18:42 is also a great picture.
