Thank you for this video! I am SO GLAD to finally see an Asian kitchen organization video. I can't relate to other videos because the amount of spices, sauces, noodles etc we have for a multitude of dishes is insane. We also have specific pots/pans to make certain meals. I'm saving this video because I'm cleaning/organizing my mom's kitchen and she has three drawers of just spice packets. My dad also has a whole cabinet of just different coffee and tea. I'm definitely going to apply your tips!
Thanks Reynard. Love your practical and real living approach to design. I so cracked up at your statement and quoting point 4 "Things are easy to maintain and won't fall apart; the focus is on function, not a kitchen for Instagram" 😂💯
This relates to the indonesian in me seeing the amount of spices, Indomies and Bamboe spices that i stock up. I am moving to a new apartment and has been using your videos as guidelines!
Reynard, your videos are simply top notch! I learned a lot from this video. I have one tip for you too - they say one should avoid storing onions and potatoes together, because they each release gases which make the other spoil or deteriorate more quickly.
Reynard, you’ve made this kitchen extremely functional and attractive. To me, attractiveness is as important as functionality because a beautiful home is uplifting and inspiring. You will want to cook more frequently and creatively when everything in your kitchen is so beautiful and accessible. You will want to maintain the kitchen’s efficiency and beauty as you use it because it feels so good to admire a gorgeous kitchen day after day. 😊
Thank goodness for this video! I am remodeling my kitchen and need to make a checklist of organizing needs go the layout. BUT every video on kitchen organizing is about LOOKS. We are like minds here- THANK YOU for this.
Glad to see someone with a reasonable amount of peanuts in their homes. I've watched too many kitchen / pantry organization videos that have 0 peanuts. I know this has nothing to do with organizing but it felt oddly relatable. Lovely video, great ideas. Thanks for uploading it. 🎉😊🙏
Thanks for stating that ALL things do not need to be decanted. Much as I love decanting, seems there is more upkeep than necessary on some items. You have really good videos and I love listening to your calmness. Have a great day!
Hi. I practice the same in utilizing the expiration date label of the product packaging and using the turntable and pot organizer rack for frequently used items. We're in the same club! However, our kitchen is way smaller than yours, hence, it's a tougher challenge for us. By the way, I hope you will also show us how to organize the cleaning towels, such as hand and dish towels, countertop, dining table, and stovetop rags, etc., in a way that is functional (easy to reach and air-dried) yet are not an eyesore. Thank you.
I organized my in-laws kitchen when they moved into a new house. I find having a cooking, prepping, and then serving zone to be very handy and you can store the different items you need for those zones in their most useful spot. I also included a coffee zone and a baking zone, since my MIL likes to bake.
I also decant a lot of my food. I prefer storing things in glass. Most of my containers are simply empty jars and the the labels I just cut out the label from the original packaging and tape it onto the jar. If I don't like the lid i will paint it with nail polish.I end up with an interesting blend. I have been enjoying your videos very much. Thanks from a frugal senior
I'm from Indonesia and I spot kecap ABC (sweet soy sauce) and Indomie in your cabinet, even bamboe and racik, feel like our own kitchen being organised 😂 are you indonesian?
A few years ago we stopped using a dish rack for hand washed items. It took up too much counter space, plus it got it funky & dirty really fast. Now we just use fabric covered foam pads. Nothing to wipe down, very low profile and I can just toss them in the wash. If there are a lot of dishes that need to be hand washed I use a wooden European style folding X-rack that's easy to store. I place it on top of the fabric pad.
I'm going to take out my dishwasher and install a new closet so I can have more storage room. This video comes just in time for my project at home this spring.
My kitchen looks like this. Love my zones makes it so much easier to cook. Fridge is divided as well. My kitchen is half the size of yours though so im pretty good at decluttering.
I zone organize like you. My baking items stay together, unopened salad dressings and croutons and toppers stay in one bin, all my rices and noodles in one bin, etc. breakfast items like pancake mix, the waffle maker, etc are together. No matter your kitchen size, organizing by use really helps (I have lived with tiny kitchens (60 sqft) to large (300 sqft) kitchens and zoning and organization makes or breaks a kitchen. I will say pot hangers and vertical storage gels also, especially in small spaces- one of the small kitchens I lived with had a 6x8 ft wall, an empty wall, very minimal cabinets, basically a lot of wasted empty space, so, I bought 2 heavy duty pot racks and hung my most utilized pots and pans on them with the lids on the shelf built in (we hung the racks with heavy duty bolts into the studs, and the racks placed at 4 ft above the floor and 6 ft above the floor stacked on top of each other), then to the right of them, I hung fruit/veggie open woven bags on the wall for garlic and onion storage and a narrow cart below with metal mesh drawers for potatoes and apples, the trash can was below the lowest pot rack (it was a small bin as we took out trash every day. Another kitchen we lived in had about 2 ft of dead space above the upper cabinets, I bought large tightly woven baskets (just passed on to our son and his wife for their kitchen with the same issue) and put large platters, overflow items like disposable plates/flatware/napkins, also extra kitchen towels, overflow food items, small appliances, etc because that kitchen may have had 10ft ceilings but the cabinetry was builder grade, small and no pantry so I made sure to utilize that open space on top of the cabinets but in a pretty way. It’s about utilizing the space you have, figuring out your flow and what you teach for the most when cooking and baking which means that’s what you keep close to those work areas.
I personally use normalized containers to store my kitchen's stuff. Except for obvious reasons, I keep caned food as it is. But all other groceries are stored in glass containers or closed and stackables boxes, each having a label to describe the content. Each time I come back to grocery store, I open the packages and transfer the content into my normalized containers to optimize space.
I get people like their cricuts, but, damn, that peeling, weeding, and transferring process looks irritating as hell. I mean, it’s great if you find all of this satisfying, but I can’t imagine devoting that much time to it. I really prefer just taking a label maker and printing labels and sticking them on. So many fewer steps.
@@lynettecorle8391 We have one of the Brother P Touch models; I'm not sure which one. It plugs in, has a full keyboard, and auto-cuts the labels after printing. I think it's really easy to use. You can, of course, make it hard to use by fiddling with things, but you don't have to. It's pretty similar to the P-Touch 1830, but that one doesn't seem to plug in. People do complain that it wastes the label tape (which is true), but it's much less wasteful than the amount of material you seem to lose with a cricut. Of course, it's obviously a lot less versatile, for those who want to do add images to their labeling, or produce any font, any size, any color-- but mostly I want to label power cords or garage storage bins, etc., and just generally do one-off labels. I don't care if they're pretty. It's good for that. All down to what your goal is.
I second that. Most label makers also have different colors for the labels, so May maybe there is a transparent one which might even look close to the cricut ones in this video?
Ohh just use either polyurethane or mineral oil. It’s fine around the sink but we also never leave puddle of water, basically wipe them if there’s any. Definitely more maintenance than a quartz or porcelain countertop, but nothing out of ordinary.
Excellent tips for organising the space, Reynard. Those lazy susans jn the cupboard are such a dream to use ( i got one this year after struggling to reach oils from a high shelf). Anko/kmart also now have a clear egg holder - when i saw inside the fridge, it reminded me of how i stored them in the carton. I'm ADHD so I frequently forget the state of things in th kitchen that i can't easily see. The anko one holds a dozen big eggs and is clear with a flat slide off lid. That way I can see how many are left and also stack another egg tray on top.
You have a lovely kitchen! You have drawers and storage space. Wonderful! Mi kitchen is very little but I must make it work. Thank you for fine ideas! Be blessed.
Reynard, did you move? I haven't been back for a few months, but your kitchen looks different from what I remembered. Would love to see a new home tour. Appreciate the video!
You are so knowledgeable! Would it possible to have your thoughts on decorating a cathedral ceiling LR that is obnoxiously high with square everything. doors, big windows (but old design 1908s, ugh)??? Thanks much for your TH-cam show!
I think this works for some people, but a lot of it doesn't work for my (new build) kitchen. I have a single kitchen drawer and 8 small cupboards. My organisational goal needs to be to maximise the space of each cupboard. I don't have the luxury of a cupboard that just has 5 bowls in it or some nicely spaced out pans.
