- “Night Fever.” “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” “Dreams.” All fantastic 70s songs, but all songs we’ve heard a million times, whether in the comfort of our own homes or endlessly on classic rock radio. But 70s music is so much more than these classics. I’ve crunched the numbers, and I’m pretty sure that somewhere between 150 songs and 16 billion songs were released in the decade, which makes it almost certain that there were some fantastic songs that slipped through the net and you’ve never heard. I’m Nostalgic Nick for Doyouremember, and today we’re going to be looking at those bangers. Whether African psychedelia or southern soul, these songs are guaranteed to blow your mind. Be sure to hit the thumbs up and subscribe to our channel, but now, let’s take our deep dive!

You do not play enough of the music to give us time to recognize the song. AND YOU TALK TO MUCH. You only give us 2 or 3 bars of the music but you babel on about what? I couldn't tell you because it has nothing to do with the song.
Maybe what he played was the only good two seconds...
Really you haven’t heard about copyright laws and getting copyright strikes here on TH-cam? Really?
@@TheChristafershawn Wile doing a reaction video they play 15 to 20 sec before they have to stop. Watch a few and you will see. He could play more of these songs without a strike.
Thank you! I was going to say the same thing
@@TheChristafershawn Then he should get dinged on even the 2 or 3 notes that he did play. SO he should've done his video on something else.
In the 70's, you didn't hear it, unless it was on the radio or you spent your weeks allowance on the record. TH-cam and Spotify didn't exist. The 70's were STILL a thousand times better.
I lived through the 70’s. If we didn’t know any of these songs it’s because we changed the station when they came on.
Good point!
I know Sparks very well. I was a huge fan of them in my early teens. They have quite the catalog and are still making music to this day.
I am 64, and I did not miss anything by not hearing any of these songs.
Thanks for sharing. Would have loved to have heard more of the songs.
Thank you! I have been furiously writing a list of the artists you mentioned. AND I will be checking them out later. Love your channel! Cheers!!
Memories!❤
Sparks were just in town☘️
Where is in town? Always been a big Sparks fan since I was 12 years old.
Remember Nick Lowe very well, his two songs "I love the sound..." and"Cruel to be kind" were sizable hits on our charts during my teenage years (have both 45s) same with Ian Dury Auckland New Zealand 2024
Stillwater - Mind Bender
Clout - Substitute
The Shadows - Let Me Be The One
Ian Gomm - Hold On
New York City - I'm Doin Fine Now
Thanks for sharing.
Ok…we hear the first and only note of “La di Da” at 1:48…we then do not hear another sound of music until Odetta sings 2 bars at 2:54….and on we go to 3:56 to hear the next 3 notes!…..Is this a joke?!!
Thank You for the List and Video (and the memories) 😀
I'm not convinced these are worthwhile songs because you should give us ten seconds of each song and quit saying how great it is because we can't judge it on two seconds
I think by law he cant
@@breannaolssen5076 Normally I would think that. But these songs are rare and probably need the exposure. Generally it's only copyright infringement if the artist complains. Or the artist is The Eagles, who maybe stretch a bit too far. Plus the guy does talk a little too much anyway.
Completely agree.
I gig Nick Lowe's I love the sound of breaking glass most weeks, it's a great tune. Remember 'I can't stand the rain' by Eruption here in the UK. Alessi also hit big with Oh Lori here in 1977. Good stuff, keep it coming.
who hasn't heard of Alessi, or Sparks?
have they been living on the Moon?
Nick Lowe and Ian Dury had big UK hits
other countries missed out, I guess.
:-0
Eight songs mentioned i have, as for Alessi i have every album they made.
I jotted the names of the songs, and artist, and went and listen to them on Spotify… Found some good stuff there… Really enjoyed Sixto Rodriguez, and the couple of the covers of Sugarman. Thanks for the vid.
I love sparks! They had monster of love on the valley girl soundtrack
I was just listening to the early Rodriguez album lately. Witch is another great early 70’ zambian band. This narrator knows what’s up and where to find the good music :)
Ignore the haters Nick, great video. anne peebles inspired missy elliot, thats how i first learned about her
"I Can't Stand the Rain" was on Tina Turner's comeback album "Private Dancer" and then I heard Missy Elliot's sample in "Supa Dupa Fly." Finally I heard the original. I discovered Big Star through "The Gilmore Girls" use of "Thirteen." I brought the CD which came with the first two records, and I fell in love with "September Gurls." Finally I heard about "Sex & Drugs & Rock and Roll" a few years ago on a "Top of the Pops" special here on TH-cam.
Well, that's 22 minutes of my life that I'll never get back.
I was looking forward to being introduced to some good songs, but the big build up and then playing only 3 seconds of the actual song was just a let down
BANGER after BANGER after BANGER. Nice list mate, shout to Link Wray.
I remember I Can't Stand the Rain, but none of the others. The Bangles did a cover of September Gurls on their Everything album (mid-to-late 90s?)...so I've heard the song, although not the original version
Fantastic Man was kind of epic. I had heard it again (This is England 90, I think?) and forgot how much I loved that tune.
John Cipollina of Quicksilver Messenger Service playing guitar in the Link Wray clip 👌
There's any excellent song by Julie Budd called "Roses and Rainbows" which was heard prominently in the movie "The Devil and Max Devlin" but for some unknown reason it was only sent out on promo 45's. But was never actually released for sale to the public. Excellent song though! Some have said Julie Budd sounds alot like Streisand! Some say she sounded too much like Streisand, and maybe that was the problem.
Pretty sure we know why these songs are not remembered.
There's a reason most of these songs weren't popular.
Some brilliant songs here! And for those griping about the lack of music, yes, there are copyright laws, so here are links to the songs of the first half of the video (official channels where possible):

Mr. Banker Lenard Skynard best old song that no one knows about.
🎵👍👍👍
!(: COOL, THANKS ;)!
I have to agree with almost EVERYBODY who commented! You can't call a song great without playing it so that we can hear enough to tell for ourselves! All I am hearing is "I AM THE GREATEST SO LISTEN TO ME TALK!" sad commentary
Must see: Movie sugar man!
I was born in 1973, and the only song I have heard of on this list was "I Can't Stand the Rain," but by Tina Turner (RIP Queen) not Ann Peeples.
Listen to John Todd audio tapes about the owned music industry.
Angel=1976="THE FORTUNE" Grand POMP Hymn avec Dymanic Hauteur about The French Revolution!
Nick Lowe and Ian Drury
Too much talking....In out.
Same. 🏃♀️
Exactly ....you get 2 seconds of a song...what a waste of time
Right !! So annoying
Yall Dont understand avoiding being copywrite struck 🙄
@@faithlessfate It's complicated, but there are other channels doing just fine that play things just a little bit longer. The key is making sure you keep it to fair use to avoid the strike.
Wish you would have played more of the songs instead of just taking about them...
I can’t stand the rain, Breaking Glass and sex ‘n’ drugs ‘n’ rock ‘n’ roll were all big UK hits
huge! and in australia.... americans sadly often seem to have no idea beyond their own little country
Sorry I have NEVER heard any of these songs. I understand why they didn't make it. I don't care for any of them.
Barely heard the songs as this guy talked to damn much!
You could have done this video in 10 minutes. The word salad was too much.
And Nick Lowe did Cruel To Be Kind…
Dang, let us hear the songs!! This absolutely sucks. 😒
Copyright issues, I guess
You should let copyright strikes know how much you want to hear these songs.
wow this guy hows no idear what was happing
Theres a reason that we dont know these songs. its because they were rightly judged to be not fit to listen to. ouch my ears hurt
Judging anything because it was a hit in South Africa is really lame.
I wonder if the ridiculously short snippet is due to the risk of trademark infringement? I Dont know but if you cant PROPERLY do what is needed to support the chosen topic then pick a new one. This was not very good.
could've been better if you let us listen to the songs instead of just telling us about it. A!? 😆😆😆
More of the music would have been better.
This is the 2nd lame video like this, that was posted by this guy. He tells us there are songs we never heard "but they were really great," but he still doesn't include enough to prove they are worth hearing.
The song "I Can't Stand The Rain" that he says was written & recorded in 1 night. Yah, & most probably a drug & alcohol fueled night.
Too. Much. Talking. I still haven’t heard the songs! Fail.
You need to fire your A.I. narrator. Or pour water on it. Something.
Yet another poor example of the bad use of virtual voices, there seem to be attempts to make the commentator sound real but with the voice speeding up, slowing down, being monotone, pronouncing words incorrectly it all adds up to an unwatchable frustrating TH-cam video with a misleading title and a lack of the actual music spoken about. Sigh
less verbal diahrea and more music please...
Well you just wasted my time of people I've never heard and never care about and try and will never care about again what a worst time to put a video out
just hit the dislike button. bet you never needed to before this video...
Nick, this was a truly pointless video. Your first thumbs down from me.
Jesus just play the fucking songs already God damn it
