Great tips! Slowly getting into it but trying to keep it on a budget (as I have other hobbies), I imagine I'll be mostly into the low to mid tier and I'd be happy with it. Trying to stay reasonable and not just collect everything I come across, rather models that have nostalgic appeal to me (mostly the 80/90s exotic and supercar era) - so I've started with a list to stick to it. I imagine many will be maisto, bburago, motormax, but I have a few AUTOart's on the radar, especially for the FIA GT era racers!

Ive got back into collecting after a long hiatus. I was in for a rude awakening how quite a few 1:18 cars I wanted that were readily available back in the day are hugely expensive and rare. I like your collection, I have an Autoart Zonda R with the plain italian colourway and the same blue gumpert apollo. I typically gravitate more towards oddball cars/group c le mans and gt1 racers and supercars from the 80s and 90s.

I collect since 1993 and started with Maisto. Today I'm obsessed with the high-end models like most collectors. Yes the cheaper models like Maisto and Bburago's paint last just forever and least likely to rash and micro bubble. I always advice buyers to judge each mode individually as even cheaper makers make great models. The recent Bburago Divo, SP1 Monza, Maisto Lambo Vision GT and so on spring to mind. And MotorMax as well as Welly have great models but they both also make rubbish models. The worst paint rash I ever encountered? Kyosho and Hotwheels (Elite models included). Do a vid on maintaining the paint and how to manage rash and bubbling(three things which causes paint oxcidation = heat, uf light and oxygen). Interestingly humidity rarely if ever contribute to oxcidation. I really like your channel. Possibly the best model channel on TH-cam.

Hi Daniel yeah exactly the same with me I started of collecting Maisto models and gradually moved up through the range and my favourite manufacturer now is AUTOart signature for the diecast models you got to start off from the bottom with maistos they are really good value for money and I would highly recommend them 👍

Maisto is definately a great choice when starting your collection by buying a model with a lower price. Solido is also a good choice if you're satisfied if you can't open anything else than the front passenger doors. Welly and Motormax also have some nice models like Maisto but I prefer Maisto and Solido if it is for low budget prices. With Welly and Motormax I experienced from time to time that the models aren't put well together. So quality end control isn't the best for these two brands. But you're right, some of their models also have nice details for their low entry level price. I am still full in love with Motormax' version of the Volkswagen Nardo W12 Coupe. About Hot Wheels it depends on the model if it is about their standard edition. The details on the headlamps on the F355 could have been done better. But I've also seen very nice models of their regular edition, e.g. the Cadillac XLR. At the end it also depends on the actual car model, your budget to spend on your new hobby - so some other entry level models could be also interesting. Also some older Bburago models can be very interesting. Their Ferrari F40 is amazing and you can get it for a bargain on ebay.

Maisto and Motormax are mass market brands, I have a few Maisto's that were given as gifts but don't disply them. I collect mid premium brands like AUTOart and ACME.

@@CarsWithHNK I can't bring myself to pay AUTOart prices for their now plastic cars, ACME makes some nice metal ones that are American cars from the 50s and 60s which is what I really collect, all my AUTOart are of American cars with one Lamborgini.

I started out high back in 1995 with one of the big boys in 1/18 scale models it was autoart well not so big for me now that they have moved towards resin models as much of the other manufacturers have but I agree if you're just starting begin with the cheaper brands than if you're enjoying it move on to manufacturers like cmc exoto bbr frontiers or AMALGAM just get ready to shell out hundreds of dollars per model or thousands in the case of "AMALGAM "

Hi that’s a good time to start collecting his model cars in the early nineties and two thousands when they’re really cheap now they are very expensive and quite hard to get hold of really good model cars I’m quite lucky that I started about 10/15 years ago before the prices when when really high 👍
