Great video! This is useful stuff for sure. I was taught to avoid jump cuts in school but it's everywhere now. To me they give the appearance that the presenter is trying to be comical or that they have rethought something they said and had to omit it. They can also give the impression that the information is more authentic and raw but, to me, when it's done constantly it looks like the presenter is unsure of themselves or they are not so capable and they need to keep fixing their mistakes. Either way I guess with lots of amature video editors this has become the norm. Just like all good design, being intentional is key to using the technique in an effective way. Thanks for putting this together!
Fair play for actively trying to avoid my biggest pet peeve on youtube, too many people using it as an effect to "keep people interest" and it gets super annoying!
Thanks for the tips! Have only uploaded one video so far and with retrospect there are more jump-cuts than I would have liked... this was super useful!
Thank you for this video. I have an extensive background in A/V production and I think that excessive use of jump cuts is an excuse to be lazy while appearing to be cool.
Hey Harv great video as usual! Personally I love using jump cuts in my TH-cam videos however I certainly steer clear of them in any of my commercial work and your tips are spot on! I’ve never even considered using a TelePrompter! Thanks 👍
It appears that you put quite a bit of planning, work, and time into producing your videos, Harv. I didn't realize how many steps are necessary to produce such a professional looking video. Shows on network television have entire staffs: videographers, editors, lighting and sounds technicians, and so on. You have to do all those jobs alone. *WOW!*
I tried using a teleprompter but it was an epic fail! I couldn't get a single sentience out organically and it was just a mess! So, I don't think I'll ever use one myself... Love all your video's by the way Harv! keep em coming!
Wow, so simple yet so effective... Definitely guilty of ugly jump cuts as Im just not confident enough on camera yet! But your recommendation of writing your script as you would say it definitely helped me... Thanks again for another great tutorial 👍🏻
Great video. Personally, I like jump cuts in TH-cam videos (although coming from a commercial background, I was opposed to them initially when I started making TH-cam content). I have grown to love them over time as I like that TH-cam kind of has developed its own aesthetic and style. But these are nonetheless great techniques for hiding jump cuts in interviews and other pro work.
wow! I am truly amazed, this was soo helpful, so cool, and packed with information. You said a lot of stuff, a lot of suggestions, you helped me a lot. I subscribed! this is exactly what I needed. have a good day :-)
Hey Harv amazing video. Anyway, is there any benefits as a musician (cause i think we understand the rhythm better than non musician) in editing video? Thanks
i think jump cuts is quite helpful for non native speakers like me as my english not very good. am not saying all non native speaker speaks poorly though, it just me. thanks for your video.
@@HarvVideoAudioStuff Don't tell anyone it was me. Just trying to help! Hey, I just shared the playlist of all your videos with a friend. Your channel is a must for video editors. I've been a Premiere user since Final Cut came out with Final Cut X leaving all professional editors kicked to the curb. Even though I've been using Premiere a long time I still pick up a new tip from your videos and am thrilled when that happens. Thanks a million!
@@HarvVideoAudioStuff I would agree. My issue though is that some TH-camr’s use crop-cuts stylistically rather than for a practical purpose (editing out mistakes, covering um’s and ah’s for example) - everyone’s content starts looking the same.
Enjoy guys :)

Learned a lot thanks for sharing!
Really helpful Harv! Love your channel. Very well presented stuff.
Many thanks :)

Agreed! It does my nut 😂
Great video! I hate the excessive use of jump cuts in nearly every vlogger's video; but I'm sure it mostly just annoys other video professionals.
Thanks for the tips! Have only uploaded one video so far and with retrospect there are more jump-cuts than I would have liked... this was super useful!
Great stuff, Harv. Nothing I don't know, but the way you film and present makes me enjoy watching! Keep it up.

I couldn’t agree more!

Nice one!Thank you!
Great video, great tips. Thank You Harv!
I've used all of these techniques! Great stuff. I haven't really tried stop motion yet though, that would be fun!
Need that Parrot teleprompter. Great price. Thanks for that recommendation.
Well done! Thank you!

Jamie is there a way to add Jump Cut effect on a specific long part of a video?
DEAR LAWD final a YouTUber that finally knows how to edit a video without fucking jump cuts. Keep coming with these
You’re welcome ☺️
@@HarvVideoAudioStuff it's truly aggravating to try to follow the action when it jumps every couple of seconds
Do you have any suggestions for transition packs for Premiere Pro?
In the beginning when you showed your screen and the edit. Was that davinci?
Ah no that was the new version of fcpx, love it!

Nice stuff Harv
Broll is the key.

Hey Harv! Which LUT were you using? Looks very clean!
Thanks, it's my trusty fav, Vellichor Aspen! :)

What is jump cut?
i think jump cuts is quite helpful for non native speakers like me as my english not very good. am not saying all non native speaker speaks poorly though, it just me. thanks for your video.
Dope. ;) Subbed
So meta!
Before jump cuts never bother me but after you pointed it out i start to notice it everywhere, and it become annoying realy fast hahaha
Bewitched can be excused
"I am so omniscient, If there was to be two omnisciences, I would be both!"
Urgh...fetid! They hide their finest bean! 😂
...but sometimes as a production style you may want to use a jump cut
There's always one jerk commenter that points out you misspelled the word teleprompter. I don't wanna be that guy. I really don't.
And yet 😂

It's not a jump-cut by definition, but you're still taking that break. Don't hate on jump-cuts lol
🤦🏻♂️
Ziltoid!!!
Crop cuts visually drive me nuts. As a viewer I find them super distracting.
Right, but they’re more of a last resort aren’t they

Totally agree with this 👆🏻 I’ve seen guys doing this mid-clip 🤦🏻♂️
